Zippgunn User Info... | I run the Sea of Shit; cheap and fast; digital, lots of amps and toy(often very busy). There is Electric Mountain (analog or digital, slightly more expensive, probably less toys), Rats Nest (cheap, fun, steeped in old school punk rock), Zero Gravity (analog, expensive, slow, beautiful gear, nice room), Lucky Mouse (Tolan's place; fun, good mics etc. cheap, often very busy), Dizzy's new place in Langford (Tascam 2424 digital), Recordist's Workshop (Bill Crappelle's rig, methodical, not dirt cheap, nice room/outboard gear, digital), and a flock of geeks with computers that call themselves "engineers" who will do the project for the sheer joy of having something to work on (avoid). You should phone EVERYBODY and find out what they can do for you at what price. If you find a good room but the guy "doesn't really like metal" you should maybe keep looking. You are far better off with a guy (or gal) who is really into your project than one who isn't but has a lot of cool gear etc. - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 11:29pm

Vinnie | Bands like ML7 and ERD record 2" analog. It crushes digital on heavier music. A/B'ing cd's recorded at local digital studios to those recorded 2" is a good way to get a sense of how big the sound difference is. - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 12:48pm
~~ | Even alot of digital bands like to mix on analog gear. Recently the production assistant for the band Default was in Zero Gravity to set up to mix Default recorded digitaly elsewhere, but they insist on mixing with an SSL board. - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 12:57pm
