Message Board > General Chitchat > how things are in the scene right now |
Frustrated | The scene is totally crap right now. Hating it. But I know it will get better by summer. It has to. Any word on the old Diegos? All I feel right now is that there is a strange silence, a lull in the action that used to be. Frustrating. - Mon, 24 Mar 2003 6:33pm
Frustrated | I can even feel it in this message board. - Mon, 24 Mar 2003 6:35pm

Anonymous | listen and watch for a new metal sound in town we're coming currently recording so you'll hear us soon. - Mon, 24 Mar 2003 7:03pm
Anonymous | I've noticed that the scene in Victoria tends to come in big bursts of new bands and tons of shows then dies down for a few months then it explodes again with a new bunch of bands. - Mon, 24 Mar 2003 7:08pm
jay brown User Info... | Same as it always is here, new bands come around blow every one away. Everyone shows up for a few shows to support them then they never come out again. Then the bands play shows to empty rooms, the venues lose money, they dont book the shows anymore and then there are no shows, no bands, no scene. Just a bunch of people doing nothing but talking about the lack of a scene, the good old days, how much the bands here suck, how much they like bands elsewhere, how punk is dead, etc.etc. - Mon, 24 Mar 2003 8:57pm
Anonymous | Fuck you Jay... you are the one who does most of the bitching, and then you turn around and criticize everyone. What the hell have you done for the scene aside from sling drinks at a decrepit shit hole? Go to hell you fucking asshole. - Mon, 24 Mar 2003 9:39pm
jay brown User Info... | What have I done for the scene? Well I put out my first album in 1989. Sice then I've put out about a dozen more. I've played in a ton of bands in this city over the years. Um, when nobody would bring bands to this city for a few years me and my roommates at the time tore out our whole basement, built a stage, put in a sound system and started throwing all the gigs in our house. The Hillside Hellhouse,n.o.f.x., lagwagon, green day to name a few that played there. Then years later when nobody would put on shows once again, I took over the Limit for the punk bands and started promoting shows there. I think at last count we had about a hundred shows there, Made money on two shows, broke even on one show and lost money on all the rest. Kept doing it anyways because I love the bands and someone had to do it. Over the years I think I can honestly say without stroking my own ego to much that there a lot of bands in this city that I either gave them their first shows. Or had them open up for my bands because I thought they deserved a break. Check around vancouver even, I know quite a few bands over there that dont want to deal with anyone else because they know I wont rip off a band. I always try to put the artists first because thats the way it should be.Hell I even get the local artists here shows out of town because I think they deserve it. The first cancer benifit, that was my doing. I hope theres a ton more I think it's a great cause. I've played with bands from all over the world, and even managed to bring some of them here. To this date I've made next to no money doing it, and more often than not have lost money on it. Up until very recently I never had a problem with that. Now I find the only thing I'm getting for almost two decades of work in this city is little bitches like you. Well fuck you and everyone like you because I think it's time to say a big fuck you to the scene here and concentrate on shows on the mainland. - Mon, 24 Mar 2003 10:28pm

Anonymous | this is by far one of the dumbest arguments on this board. anon- you must be pretty fucking bored. - Mon, 24 Mar 2003 11:51pm
Lurker User Info... | It's quite obvious even to people who aren't even in your scene that there are certain individuals that do a hell of a lot for it. Jay Brown is one of them. So is Dane who puts on ska fest and was with Pandora Projects. So are people who just put on great shows and maybe play in bands like say... Fancy Boys United. Well fuck, what a great idea... bash people that actually contribute... just pure genious. If you think your scene sucks now then just go ahead and bitch at all the key scenesters and then see what it's like. - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 2:19am
Anonymous | Shut up you fucking tool. - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 11:02am
Oldschooler | Jay Brown is cool but alot of silly bitches dont realize it. - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 11:28am
Spark | Ever since I was old enough to reconize the local scene, people have always said it's going downhill or it "sucks". For those of you who feel that music is a lost cause or that such and such a genre is dead, give up. put down your instruments and walk away. You are no longer interesting or relivent to music. go lay down in your graves - Tue, 25 Mar 2003 12:38pm
