Message Board > General Chitchat > Fake debit machines used to steal money |
Gazebo Tree User Info... | Wednesday, December 12, 2007 Reported on canada.com on the Victoria site, apparently some more bone-headed scammers are stealing money. Be careful out there when you shop and use your debit cards. http://www.canada.com/victoriatimescolonist/news/story.html?id=f9f975aa-4a9c-447d-8772-5a54438c7f02&k=45837 - Wed, 12 Dec 2007 5:02pm
ROSS B AY User Info... | Pretty fucking sweet idea. Thanks. - Wed, 12 Dec 2007 5:25pm Edited: Wed, 12 Dec 2007 5:25pm
Drustanos User Info... | "It only takes a few seconds to unplug the debit machine keypad from its internet cord and swap it with the hacked device, he said." This is bullshit. I was a service man for TD debit machines for awhile in kamloops and pinpads will not work if you swap them. Each pinpad has a special code which needs to be initialized by the bank computers. I had to call them and give them my info, service call # and the pinpad id. Hell, maybe an ex serviceman was responsible... - Wed, 12 Dec 2007 9:29pm
dumpstermesh User Info... | Ya I was wondering about that myself. I can remember spending way too long on the phone with the techies getting new pinpads installed. Unless these frauds have some built in way to mimic the old ones id #. - Thu, 13 Dec 2007 9:53am
