Aidan Logins User Info... | Lots of people have really nice fancy gorgeous instruments. I'm curious what people started with? What was the first instrument that you owned?? Mine was a 3/4 size Memphis strat copy. I still have it, but now (11 years later) it is barely playable, and at some time I painted it sparkly purple and gold... Shortly after the Memphis I won a Danelectro '56 U2 Reissue which I still play today occaisionally. What were your first instruments? Kept them? Still play them? Love them? I'm betting this thread will mostly be Strat copies. Surprise me. - Mon, 10 Dec 2007 8:20pm
Drustanos User Info... | We had to play recorder's in elementary school. Fuck those were annoying. Later.. in grade 5 or something.. we got to play ukulele's. Better, but still annoying. I think I lit the ukulele on fire. My first bass was a fender jazz model, like 250$. Wasn't too bad actually.. I think I traded it for an stereo in high school. First guitar was some 70's no name hand me down. The frets were so worn that you couldn't play half the notes on the thing. - Mon, 10 Dec 2007 8:41pm
Sati User Info... | Dunno, all those instruments I just played around with... I think there were a lot! And voice lessons. The first instrument I took lessons on was probably an 1/8th or 1/4 size violin. I nicked the face with the metal piece below the frog of my bow by accident one day, and decided it was fun. By the time I got the next size, there were probably about 60 nicks speckled into it. tsk tsk tsk 2nd was a guitar - cheap yamaha acoustic - Mon, 10 Dec 2007 9:10pm Edited: Mon, 10 Dec 2007 9:11pm
devin User Info... | I had an ancient JMS hollowbody. The tuners were bent to shit and shaking it made a nice tremolo effect. Then I downgraded to a new yamaha. - Mon, 10 Dec 2007 9:38pm
Doc User Info... | I started on a Yamaha 1/2 sized violin then "graduated" to a Shimro St. Antonio 3/4 sized bass. My first electric bass was a Vantage 5 string. I loved that bass so much, it got the living hell pounded out of it and still played beautifully. I would probably still have it if it wasn't stolen out of my friends car. ~I don't want this to sound like a come on or anything but do you want to fuck? Doc - Mon, 10 Dec 2007 10:59pm
Bryan User Info... | I'm going to be the first to meet the OP's expectations... a squier strat was my first instrument. It's missing a couple strings right now, but in general I do still use it sometimes. - Tue, 11 Dec 2007 3:16pm

andy hank User Info... | A piece of shit Profile P-bass copy. I sold it to buy a Harmony H-22 bass so my old band's guitar player and I had matching instruments... Good thread Aidan. - Thu, 13 Dec 2007 5:28pm Edited: Thu, 13 Dec 2007 5:28pm

KnifeGhost User Info... | I started on my Mom's old Yamaha acoustic guitar. It's a good old thing. I still have it around, but I don't play it very often. My first electric was a piece of shit Profile strat copy. I still have it, and I still think I can get more value out of it than the $50 I could get for it. I may fix the wiring, throw in some hotter pick-ups, and string it up with the four lowest strings of a baritone. - Wed, 19 Dec 2007 12:52am
J fatso User Info... | I had a Vantage Strat copy (seems like almost everyone started on some sort of strat knock-off). Coverd the thing stickers, looked like crap, played even worse. - Wed, 19 Dec 2007 2:02pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | Very first instrument was a ukelele of which I have a picture with me holding it being 3 years old acting like Elvis. First guitar was a Mann Les Paul copy that I wish I had held onto because it was so cheap it probably would sound killer gruff today. I bought it from Martin The Mole at Tempo Trend and, of course he totally scammed me as I knew nothing about guitars. First bass was a BC Rich Warlock that ended up being a three string model because I dropped it in a parking lot and the headstock split. Too lazy to fix it. I used that bass in ML7 up until 1999 when I bought my Ibanez Sound Gear. - Wed, 19 Dec 2007 2:23pm Edited: Wed, 19 Dec 2007 2:24pm
Post Poc User Info... | aside from the recorder shit my first instrument was also a vantage strat copy. the difference here........it was mauve! i didnt pick it and you have no idea how many times i had to say its not pink you dicks its "mauve". frets that would lacerate flesh, pick-ups screaming, and the body so heavy it pulled your spine out of alignment. hated it with a passion but kept playing. first "REAL" instrument: gloss black 22 fret, 1980-82 era japanese strat with a floyd which is now semi retired but much loved. - Wed, 19 Dec 2007 7:06pm

sealion User Info... | a roland sh3 synth, bought off gar Gillies at Garnet/Cam's Music in the 'Peg. I flew home from the Nelson River hydro project with it. One of the few synths with a built-in flight case. Couldn't afford the ARP Odyssey. Last seen at Tom Lees in Vancouver in 1975 when I walked out with a new Minimoog. Eventually found me an arp (well a few over the years) but never found an sh3 again. The 3 had a moog copy filter, after the lawsuit the new sh3a didn't. - Sun, 23 Dec 2007 10:59pm Edited: Sun, 23 Dec 2007 11:05pm
