MP User Info... | Anybody know if this rumour is true? I heard that the Steamers Building just got bought and will be completely renovated and no more Steamers! What will happen to Velvet? - Sat, 17 Nov 2007 8:49am Edited: Sat, 17 Nov 2007 8:49am
round em up User Info... | ....tossed into the dung heap of history, where it belongs. - Sat, 17 Nov 2007 10:04am
ROSS B AY User Info... | About fucking time, I say. Goon squad bouncers and faggot "rock". Maybe it'll turn back into the Kings. I'd drink there. - Sat, 17 Nov 2007 10:25am
Self Righteous Records User Info... | http://www.canada.com/victoriatimescolonist/news/capital_van_isl/story.html?id=f440f73f-39ac-451c-95d4-7a4ddf11092c&k=9912 Yep. It's getting gutted. - Sat, 17 Nov 2007 11:24am
trevor corey User Info... | Ahhhhh, yes, bring back the Kings Pub. I used to go there for lunch when I worked with Quinn in the warehouse at A$B Sound , then I would stop by on my way home from work, then I'd stop in on my way to catch a gig at Harpo's, then, if the show ended early, I'd stop in on my way home. Strippers in tight jean cut-offs, and cheap ass pool tables. Good times. - Sat, 17 Nov 2007 1:41pm
Curmudgeon Rocker User Info... | Oh how I miss Liz Lyons - she knew how to handle the Kings' hecklers. /and walking back out into the blinding sunlight after lunch! - Sat, 17 Nov 2007 3:04pm
Ching User Info... | Well it is a shame that there will be one less venue in town. I play there a few times a month lately & we always wish it was a little different but it will be sad to see it go. I will just have to learn how to get gigs somewhere else haha. - Wed, 21 Nov 2007 3:24pm
KimberleyKaos User Info... | YOU GUYS ARE FUCKING OLD... My cousin was the biggest undercover in town during those days, and that was his hang out... Perry from Evo owned that I believe... (4 cops in family, including Dan, I pride myself on being the blackshhep :) - Wed, 21 Nov 2007 6:40pm
Ching User Info... | OK so I played there last night & the last day they are open is New Years Eve. It has been a bar for over 100 years! I suggest any one who wants to go there in the next month and soak up the scenery while they can. - Thu, 22 Nov 2007 8:43am
Matteus User Info... | I'll be sad to see it go. It was a bar that had music all nights of the week, all different flavors and most of all, there was never any BS there. I never got in fights there and even as a doorman for a few months there, I never had to break up one fight. Shit, most people escorted themselves when I said they had to go! There is going to be a big gap to fill once steamers leaves. - Thu, 22 Nov 2007 11:04pm
KimberleyKaos User Info... | Everytime I have been there, it has always been the weird result of some adventure, unplanned of course, (except for the Deadcats). But the music or the people were always new to me, and always amazing...love to play pool while hearing rippin tunes, don't get that chance much anymore. - Thu, 22 Nov 2007 11:27pm
KimberleyKaos User Info... | Are you Matteus the tattoo artist? - Thu, 22 Nov 2007 11:29pm
Matteus User Info... | this matteus the bald guy. but not the tattoo artist. - Fri, 23 Nov 2007 5:29pm
KnifeGhost User Info... | I've never pretended to like Steamers, and I'm 100% behind a historic revitalization of that stretch of Yates, but (though I'm not holding my breath) I would love to see a new pub/venue in that space. Well, at least along that street. I've always loved being able to hop between Steamers and Lucky in one night. I've been saying for years that they should show off the historic-ness of lower Yates, and I love that it's happening. - Fri, 23 Nov 2007 6:40pm
Matteus User Info... | Why dont they change that crack filled area into a historic area and get the crackies out? - Fri, 23 Nov 2007 8:44pm
The Wolf User Info... | If you get in there soon you might get a beer poured my Xmas... Nice if they moved into where Soundgarden was... - Fri, 23 Nov 2007 11:31pm
rm User Info... | yeah, lower yates street will look great if it gets a historic facelift, but what to do with that huge eyesore they call a parkade? - Sat, 24 Nov 2007 7:11am
Doc User Info... | They can't move into where Soundgarden was though, part of the reason that they closed that place waws that the building was totally unsafe. Shame though, I agree that it would be a good place for them to move. ~Kicking names and...taking...ass? Doc - Sat, 24 Nov 2007 9:45am
Dr.DoomXXX User Info... | I miss soundgarden :( I was mad when they shut the place down, I was more than willing to take my chances in there. - Sat, 24 Nov 2007 12:33pm
LivevicScott User Info... | Actually they can't move into where Soundgarden was because that is now some furniture store with water fountain displays in the window. I walked by it a couple weeks ago, looks REALLY weird next to the shelter. Hopefully the license gets bought and moved somewhere else. I agree that Steamers wasn't perfect (terrible sightlines) but it's demise is disheartening - Sat, 24 Nov 2007 4:07pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | No more Steamers? Must remember to drink there. - Sun, 25 Nov 2007 9:21pm
trevor corey User Info... | Who on Earth was the genius that decided it would be a good business plan to open a furniture store RIGHT NEXT DOOR to Streetlink? - Mon, 26 Nov 2007 2:38am
Yo Mama User Info... | Actually, they have taken the license somewhere....Tamara from Soundgarden now owns and runs the Jelyfish Lounge underneath the Bedofrd hotel. - Mon, 26 Nov 2007 10:51am
Soap Dodger User Info... | "Who on Earth was the genius that decided it would be a good business plan to open a furniture store RIGHT NEXT DOOR to Streetlink? - Mon, 26 Nov 2:38am " Probably the same genius that decided that our junkies should have waterfront. - Mon, 26 Nov 2007 1:02pm
J fatso User Info... | HAHAHA. Fuck that shithole. Fuck it all to hell. AT least The Subverts got to play there, cleared half the place out too. Poor Velvet. yeah, and screw those douchebag bouncers too. - Wed, 28 Nov 2007 11:15pm
lonemonk User Info... | I worked on lower Yates for 16 years, right beside Ferris' oyster bar, the whole area continues to progress a long way from where it was. The office I work in moved to Fisgard, in centennial square, and what a difference. I'd way rather be back on Yates. There was only two things from the past I really liked consistently about Steamers: 1. Bison burgers 2. They (used to) have all you can eat wings up until 6pm on Fridays It will mean one less place for bands to play which is a shame all itself. . - Wed, 28 Nov 2007 11:34pm
Deitrosity User Info... | Ya this was a pretty decent venue I thought. They seemed to support up and cummers(oops). Were else can you play pool whilst seeing live bands?. All bouncers are dicks thats a given, there are ways to get around this. The name of the place is/was Steamers(lol), I don't think they were trying to fool anyone. RESPECT! - Thu, 29 Nov 2007 12:01am
Adrenaline Animal User Info... | Come out for one last night @ Steamers pub Saturday December 22nd, Moneyshot, Growler, and The Rulebook Hope to see you all out for one last Steamers Show - Mon, 10 Dec 2007 11:50am
_Griphin_ User Info... | When I was down @ Steamers, I was told by the bartender that there last night will be on December 31st, 2007, so there at least celebrating New Years Eve. They close on January 1, 2008. - Mon, 10 Dec 2007 12:49pm
sealion User Info... | Well the King's yeah, then there was teh night the motorcycle and sidecar came down teh stairs at the Churchill, but Brown Jug anyone? Once all of downtown is nicelt developed there will be nothing for anyone who lives there to do, maybe take a bus to the burbs? - Sun, 23 Dec 2007 11:29pm
