RSBF Fred Rogers, who gently invited millions of children to be his neighbor as host of the public television show "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" for more than 30 years, died of cancer early Thursday. He was 74. Rogers died at his Pittsburgh home, said family spokesman David Newell, who played Mr. McFeely on the show. Rogers had been diagnosed with stomach cancer sometime after the holidays, Newell said.

"gently invited millions of children to be his neighbor" that sounds creepy..... - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 1:58pm
S.V. Having a character called Mr. McFeely on your kid's show is a little creepy too. Amazing though, that you can become an internationally known star by playing with puppets and a trolley. RIP Mr. Rogers...all the little chitlins will miss ya. - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 2:21pm

Anonymous He was creepy. I always thought Mr Rogers was for retarded kids cuz he talked so slow - as a little kid I was amazed at how they had a whole show strictly for retarded kids.
I have a friend who was convinced that he was a pedophile BECAUSE a girl he knew was hooking down south at age 13 and swore Mr Rogers picked her up. He believed her - and he wasn't the naive type. I dunno, doesn't seem too far fetched to me, he icked me out. - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 2:50pm

Gotta agree about Mr.Dressup's coolness.
I went to his farwell tour at The Royal, ah I mean I took my son to see him, ah ya.
I actually teared up when he walked out on the stage and he got a standing "O". It was amazing!
Long live Casey and Finnegan!! - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 6:03pm
Anonymous No Wreaker, I didn't watch it day after day. I don't think I ever watched even a full episode - or even more than a minute or two at a time when I did try to give it a chance. Like I said, I thought he was creepy and I thought it was for retarded kids. No shit. And I was a really little kid at the time! WHY DID HE HAVE TO TALK SO SLOW???!
He didn't look kind or trustworthy. I was a Mr Dressup kid, but I actually thought that was pretty boring too. - Thu, 27 Feb 2003 6:42pm
minimags Mr Rogers was the bestest! Man, he was a pimp, all those sweaters with the zippers.. Fred Penner is definatly cool too although I must say Sharon Lois and Bram take the ticket.. I mean they sang the Skinner Marinky dinky dink song.. too cool - Fri, 28 Feb 2003 10:43am
