I've kind of fallen out of the canadian politics game over the past few months. I admit, I've been far too busy fuming over bill o'reilly and fox news and the amusing entertainment of american politics...I think I have neglected to educate myself on what is going on here.
Is Harper doing alright? all knee-jerk anti-conservative jargon aside. I mean, aside from being paranoid about upsetting the american ambassador, wanting to give police search without warrants power, and coming up with fascinating excuses for staying out of Kyoto...is he doing an alright job? - Mon, 20 Aug 2007 5:47pm

I'm usually very left wing, but I do believe in good business. You need money for social programs. In my opinion Herper is doing a good job at taking care of business.
I think he should be kept in a minority position so he can't start getting all George Bush on us, but yeah, at least he is smart, and professional. - Mon, 20 Aug 2007 8:07pm Edited: Mon, 20 Aug 2007 10:10pm

Wow. He sure came across like an asshole on the news tonight, after I said such nice things about him.
DEFINATLY, do not give this man a majority government.

No,no,no.
What I said was, Harper is taking care of business, business makes money, money pays for social programs.
As long as he is kept in a minority position, he won't risk making too many waves in that area. Given a majority, I think he would pull a Gordon Campbell on us, or worse. - Tue, 21 Aug 2007 12:39pm Edited: Tue, 21 Aug 2007 12:46pm

Yes he takes care of big business, that's not a shock. But make money off of big business? More like give huge tax breaks to big business so they don't end up moving their operations to mexico and tax incentives to move operations up here from the US. Personally I don't think our economic growth has much to do with the current PM. More likely that big business is tired of the crap they have to deal with in the US. So it's either choose to operate up here, or down in mexico. FTA...gotta love it. But then I'm not a financial analyst so what do I know? - Tue, 21 Aug 2007 12:59pm

Good business certainly doesn't mean money for social programs. If anything its the opposite. In order to draw business, things like social programs and environmental regulations are the first things to be cut. By doing away with these things, it makes it cheaper for businesses to operate. Whats good for business certainly isn't always good for the people. - Wed, 22 Aug 2007 11:34pm Edited: Wed, 22 Aug 2007 11:36pm

I agree, but it's still better to live in a rich country than a poor one. - Wed, 22 Aug 2007 11:44pm

if you read much about the SPP you might not thgink harper is doing good... thier talking about machein gun armed gards at the border, a 10 lane super highway from mexico to canada with limited access, and all kinds of other shit like getting rid of public health care all together, using terms like "common goals in securrity" (with the usa)
fuck harper, he has cut funding to womens programs, and made it so that grants that were only available to women run non profits, are now available to banks and corporations.

.........yeah, fuck Harper.
All I was trying to say was, at least he's not an idiot.
I worry that the left vote is split to many ways. Gary Lund got in with 30% because the vote split on the left. - Sat, 25 Aug 2007 12:27am
