| mactac User Info... | Not to complain, but livevictoria needs updating. Functionality of sites like livevic have come a long way in the last few years. a couple of things that it needs to make it a lot more useful: 1. A thread subscription function. ie "email me when someone responds to this thread".... every bulletin board has this these days. It would get more people coming to the site (more traffic=more $advertising) & make it a lot more useful. so many times someone will post something for sale, for example... you post a question & they never get back to you. possibly because they didn't know the reply was even there. 2. Obfuscated email addresses. this isn't the 80's anymore ! Use a form for people to email people directly (or better yet set up PM's). that way I don't have to display my email address to all the spambots out there & don't have to type my(at)email.com crap. People don't want to display their email, so often there is no way to contact some people other that replying to a thread (see #1 for the problem with that) 3. SHow the darn URLs in the address bar! by not showing the URL in the address bar, people will never link into a thread (well, you can get the actual url, but most people don't). any website that wants to achieve any success at all needs incoming links. anything else? post your ideas. | nicola User Info... | I think the live victoria guys are doing a great job with the site... I vaguely recall, in the beginning, getting email messages everytime someone responded to the thread, but too many people complained about the spam in their inbox... to each their own I guess. As for the database, yeah it sucks that it is out of date, but it is the responsibility of the person who posted the info in the first place to be the one to update it. It would be a lot of work to contact all the bands to make sure that they're still a band each week (because we all know the life span of some bands isn't that long around here) ... In the band section they do have a "last updated" feature or something like that... if that date isn't current, the band probably isn't either. - Tue, 22 May 2007 10:34pm | ||

| Nev User Info... | Hey Guys, I hear you on the requests, and I am working on them but its' slow as I have to spend most of my time working for other people's sites to make a living . I wish I could spend more time on this one, and eventually I will be able to as I'm raising my rates for other people so I can afford to do both. The private messaging/email hiding thing is well on it's way. That'll be the first to be added. An email when someone replies thing will be next after that. As for showing the URL in the address bar, that'll have to be done a different way (because of the frames) but I'll sort something out. Probably a 'Link to this thread' link or something that gives an address that can bust thrgouh the frames and get you back to where you are. Actually, come to think of it, that one will be the easiest, I'll do it first. I'm sending myself an email now so it sits in my inbox. Mactact, thanks for the suggestions and offer of help. At this point, to bring you up to speed on how my stem works woudl be harder than just making the changes myself, but I'll let you know if I think I can find a way to help. Thanks. Re the concerns about osolete information in the database, I realize it is a problem, but you also must realize this is also a historical database and is designed to keep records of past bands. Make sure you select "Bands that still exist" or "bands available for shows" when browsing the band database to limit what you get. We do have a mechanism for sending status requests to bands, and resetting bands stauts to unkown if they haven't logged in to confirm their status in a few months. - Thu, 24 May 2007 6:32pm | ||

| The Box Drone User Info... | I hate the frames personally... I don't expect a lot of sympathy on this one, but I almost exclusively check this board at work and like to have my browser window as tiny as possible (for obvious reasons :P), but with livevictoria that's not really an option because the frames fill up the whole window. An optional non-frames version would be great if that's possible, and it would also solve the direct linking problem. Nev's doing a bang up job on this site, but there will always be room for improvement, and there's nothing wrong with creative criticism. - Fri, 25 May 2007 1:27pm | ||

| Livevic Scott User Info... | We don't use pre existing board software as they're not compatable with everything we are doing/want to do in the future (such as sharing specific threads and boards over multiple sites etc. And as Nev said, this site isn't exactly makeing either of us rich *grin* so updates, more promotion etc all come when we can spare evening hours and when the money's there. That said, we have had more support from bands/promoters/local business by buying ads.... And we REALLY appricate it. If ever your doing a show, can afford an extra $20-25 in the promotion area we're a good cheap option and it helps us pay the bills!! - Wed, 30 May 2007 10:02pm | ||

| Sati User Info... | Hell yeah, they look good on the front page! And we're doing our best with tweaking the new system that gets status update reminders out to bands, but its not perfected yet. What you guys could do is let bands know that you're actually looking at their empty or out of date profiles! They get seen literally thousands of times, especially off the main page if they're gigging, but I don't think a lot of bands are aware of that. - Sat, 2 Jun 2007 8:49pm | ||
