Get ready jadies and lentlemen, Dougy's got a top 5 list for y'all! Top 5 Local Bands of 2002!

#5) CRYPTIC ENIQUITY
These 7 axe yielding mop tops combine trip hop, world beat, jazz fusion and kraftwerkesque death metal to form their own Salt Spring Island style drum jam. No one knows what's gonna come next when these hemp harvesting hooligans help heal their primairly 60+ arthritic demographic by using a carefully krafted concoction of original time signatures, unique rhythms (native only to Salt Springians) and good old fashioned spliffian kamasutra to create awe inspiring comatose.

#4) DA ROYAL VICTORIA DAX MUSEUM
Ding Dong the Witch is Dead!.. or is it?! I'm thinkin' NO WAY sugar! These rockabilly rock stars from Esquimalt spent most of 2002 touring most of Victoria extensively; particularily their home turf's infamous Bingo hall, Timmy Ho's and their unforgettable homecoming blitz at the Archie Browning Curling Center opening up for the band which would go on to carve their way in to the bark of Victoria rock history... Dougy's next pic:

#3) BITCHIN BOOT BREW
The lead singer's sexy home done facial tattoos go to show that permanent irony still goes along way with the crowds in Victoria who flock in droves to see these self proclaimed kings of alt-math-country strip down and jiggle their twigs. Don't stand too close though, this Canestin boycotting boy band bows down to the bread and beer bond between their collective loins! Nonetheless, if you can stand the funk, then you'll love the junk in this motherfucking trunk!

#2) EYE OF THE SHIT STORM
As if there wasn't already enough lap steel-jam-groove bands to come out of Oak Bay, these five Barbazon school of Modelling graduates had to go and start another -but wait! If you act now they'll also throw in a taste of tex mex salsa flava with Gordon Head's very own celebrity, Emmett Bowring, playing digital kazoo! But don't get your hopes up -it's only on the recording. Live they use a sample of him playing. Sounds good in theory; but, the samples are very noisy (possibly 8 bit) -almost like you can hear an ESL classroom lecture in the background or something. Nonetheless -props to this orgy of high hopes.

And of ofcourse, who can forget the obvious winner...
#1) TAINT THAT BAD
It's true, they aint that bad. Actually, their fucking amazing -assuming you're relatively versed in tribal sex rituals of the early 1800's. Keep your eyes peeled and your scrotum shaved because you're gonna be hearing A LOT about these guys once their album, Infinite Rectology, hits the shelves this Easter. It will be exclusively distributed at Shoppers Drug Mart and Legends. - Tue, 18 Feb 2003 3:48am

Did you guys see the Fine Options last night? They were fucking ass tight! - Sat, 22 Feb 2003 1:14pm
Anonymous ok want an honest opinion.

1) ML7 - Disagree all you want but EVERYONE knows that they are the band for Victoria.
2) Whip - although cover bands suck, I had a blast at their show. They are pretty good musicians too.
3) Gallow's End - They have great songs and are pretty good. I haven't seen them for a while though and so they might be better. They would be number 1 but they just are not tight enough yet.
4) Gross Misconduct - Yeah see them and you will know why
5) The Shivs - c'mon, who doesn't like to see a blind guy rip shit up. - Sat, 22 Feb 2003 7:41pm
Glen Stefani The newest sensation to hit the Victoria music scene is WHITE LEATHER BULLET SCARF who fists you gently yet with determination, and while you feel the dreaded pain/pleasure, your face betrays no emotion, and your Chuck Taylor's move saucily from side to side, finally validating the presence of social dance in elementary school. - Sat, 22 Feb 2003 8:48pm
Glen Stefani smell me, lick me, kiss me, fist me. - Sat, 22 Feb 2003 8:52pm
lily_liquor AahaHAAaaHHOoo..Beers Steers AND Queers!! - Sat, 22 Feb 2003 9:18pm
Anonymous doug is funny and this message board does seriously lack creativity, generally displaying the mentality of some vulgar junior high shouting match and invariably posted by (apparently) the same boring bunch of lunkheads.....uh....I mean metalheads - Sat, 22 Feb 2003 10:38pm

It warms my heart to read the loving praise and heartfelt adornment my most recent top 5 has garnerred. My question to my loyal fans: have you read my earlier work? It sprung from the bowels of my loins via Live Victoria, circa mid to late 2002 -I'm talkin old skool shit motherfuckers. I've taken the liberty of copying and pasting this juicy nugget from the halls of Live Victoria history.
After a week-long excursion into the bowels of productivity(my job at Seven Eleven) I'm back with another one of my famous and Slurpee flavoured LISTS! Now sit back, put your feet up, get ready for the most definitive list of the BEST Victoria bands in History! Let's begin:

#5- J R TOKIN'
They were only around for three incredible THC soaked shows but these 6 guys(and one chick) tore! My mind was fucking realing like a cigar in a windy parking lot. By the time their set was over, the joint I baptized and rolled out of an eighth of ganja had canoed upped to my ingrown fingernail and I didn't even care!

#4- CROTCH ROCKIT
ZOOM ZOOM! Like their saying went "You better WATCH IT, when we CROTCH IT!", this 2 piece had record scratching(courtesy of the always uncomfortably sexual MIX MASTER PSYCHE) mixed with Klesmer Clarinet (courtesy of Yitsak Harowitz). Picture this: Your favorite Doogie Howser theme song, mixed with Reign in blood by Slayer.

#3- SLEEPING WITH THE ENENEMI
Always two steps ahead of the sea urchin game, this 3 piece 40's cover band covered hits from the 30's like "Swimming into Disaster" and "Fishin for Love in all the Wrong Lagoons." This band had "get signed to Geffen" written all over them... They put out a split tape with SOMETHING SMELLS FISHY which was distributed at Thrifty's Deli.

#2- DOLLAR STORE QUALITY
"Take me out to the mall game!" Swing batta -this band's hittin home runs in the quality department. You order it, they got it in stock -bitch! This 8 piece consisted of 8 acoustic guitarists doing 8 part harmonies to classics such as "Need More Candles," "Wall of Balloons" and "Generic-Brand War Figurine." You can't help but bob your head in sync with their 5/4 rhythms and dischordant gregorian secular chanting. Bring your backpack cuz you'll be stealing riff ideas in NO time!

...And finally, the best band to ever come out of this seagull infested rock we call Victoria...

#1- GRANDPA'S GOTTA HARD-ON
The skin flies deep in grandma's poop scooper ladies! Time out- no more doddling. Make sure you get a chance to check this pre-pubescent junior high school jazz band jamboree. They play nude at every show and it's worth seeing them just to get horny. Their CD can be purchased in the World Beat section at the Lyle's Place in Langford... so go buy it NOW! HOLY SHIT IT'S EXTREME!

I invite all of you to reply with your top 5. In a world of crack, ghonorhea and flesh eating disease, it's nice to know there are still people who like to share their thoughts. Oh, and remember, don't snort it if it's anthrax!
