SPRING - LOADED User Info... | ok, every year around this time i get sugar ants in my house, they just came this morning, they pick a different spot every year and i have crawl along the floor and find out where they are coming from! Ive used liquid ant poison and those little cages with the peanut butter in them and i can never seem to get rid of them, this time they found my dining room table and now i'm pissed.....please does anyone know how to get rid of these fucking ants without an exterminator?????? i know moving would be the best solution but that would be letting them win!...lol... - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 9:33am Edited: Mon, 16 Apr 2007 9:34am
sati User Info... | http://www.copykatchat.com/archive/index.php?t-31.html Not that I've ever had ants before, but my favorite thing for fleas on animals is Diatomaceous earth because it slices & dices them to death! It sticks to their exoskeleton so they basically dry up. And it actually helps guard against parasites in your pet's digestive tract so if they ingest, its good for them. Just don't (you or your pet) breathe it in because it'll damage your lungs. Or you can get boric acid from drugstores. Good luck. - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 10:14am
lonemonk User Info... | The ones that I get are so damned small that I don't worry about them. They seem to die out by summer time or thereabouts. I would be worried however if I saw the same amount of the larger black hard-bodied ones. They bite and can eventually carry the pets away. That link certainly has some tips from others. - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 10:38am
SPRING - LOADED User Info... | thanks i'll look into it! how do you prenouce it though? i will sound like an ass in the store asking for it...lol...would i get it in a horse feed store? DYE-A-TOW-MAY-SHUS.....? LOL - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 10:38am Edited: Mon, 16 Apr 2007 10:40am
SPRING - LOADED User Info... | YES the ones I have are really small too, I just hate not being able to eat at the kitchen table....... - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 10:43am

_Griphin_ User Info... | I have an ant problem myself, for years I wondered how they were getting into the apartment (and crawl over my drapes, dozens of them), then I figured out there's a dranage hole in the frame of my window to drain any excess liquid and have blocked the window with duct tape. I haven't had a problem since. I feel bad killing the ants, they're entering my apartment to hunt for food. - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 10:50am Edited: Mon, 16 Apr 2007 10:51am
sati User Info... | I don't actually know whether that stuff is the best thing, unless you know where they're coming from. Its good for fleas because you can rub it into their fur and it'll kinda stick. Like it said, you'll probably want to mix it with something to attract them, same as with boric acid. And let me tell you, boric acid is DIRT cheap. A few bay leaves scattered on your table doesn't sound like a bad thing temporarily though? Kinda nice, actually. I wouldn't mind the odd little bowls of spices like whole cinnamon & cloves (and maybe star anise) around for a while either... pretty & smells yummy. - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 11:23am
SPRING - LOADED User Info... | bay leaves? that works ? do they not like the smell? I do know they are coming in through the sliding glass door on my patio, i can't tell if there is a crack because its always wet and dark in the runners...but thanks for all the suggestions, i'm jworried about my kitten getting into whatever traps i set too! - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 11:34am
MURDALIZER User Info... | I have the same problem. They like areas that are damp, like bathrooms, under sinks, kitchen area etc. They don't really pose a great problem, but do make me feel dirty. Like I don't take care of my house properly. I use Safers insecticide drops, I think its just Borax. Seems to work fine, just look for the areas where they congregate, apply a few drops, they eat it and then take it back to the nest and it spreads throughout the colony. I have pets, and it hasn't hurt them either. Every year about this time it happens. - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 12:33pm
Mean Mike User Info... | I used some liquid drop thing a few times like Murdalizer mentions, they carry it back to the nest and feed it to the colony and queen and eventually.. all gone. takes a week or two.. I just fed them alot, sprinkling it all along their trail. You can watch them suck it up and get all fat then waddle back to the nest with their prize of death! - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 1:12pm
Mace User Info... | Truth of the matter is, the only problem, is that 'Scumbags' have ants.. It's like an infested, rabid, dog[s]. You are like an infestation of what you live like, and ants are a mirror reflection of ones' cleanliness, in which case you, you only have to look in the mirror, to see where the true dirt lies. - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 1:13pm
Aidan Logins User Info... | I don't get sugar ants. I did one year, whatever. Now I've been getting BIG FAFO ants every year this time. It's gross. They're everywhere. Actually just in one room. But the house is old and dying so instead of fixing the problem we're gonna bulldoze the house next year. But damn, I feel your pain. - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 3:03pm
dumpstermesh User Info... | My solution has always been beer and borax. They LOVE the beer and the borax kills them good. Don't use so much borax that it kills them before they get it all the way back to the nest. - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 6:06pm
SPRING - LOADED User Info... | I think because I live right on the water, it may have something to do with why i get them each year, my house is somewhat clean! i try to scrape the mold and maggots off my counters each day...but they still come in!!!! go figure! but as for all the helpfull people who replied thank you but the ants are too smart for the liquid, they just sniff it and walk around it! and MACE! i'm only DIRTY in the bedroom with the drummer from Forgotten Joe! I mean my boyfreind.......lol.......but i will try the beer thing! thanks y'all....... - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 8:53pm
Margaret Houlihan User Info... | I had those sugar ants when I moved into my place. I found that making sure that all branches that reached the wall outside my kitchen had to be cut and that pretty much solved the problem. I've also heard that ants hate chalk. I've heard that if you draw a line on a sidewalk the ants will actually not cross it but walk around it. If you have chalk around this might be worth a shot to see if this is a myth or not. - Mon, 16 Apr 2007 10:44pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | That's so mean. You do realize that Ants do a lot more then hunt for food and look creepy?!? Chalk?!? I should think about lining my window sill with it and see what happens. - Tue, 17 Apr 2007 11:47am
James User Info... | I get them too every year. I've heard that lemon extract works well at keeping them away. Last year I filled where they were coming from but this year they got in somewhere else. - Wed, 25 Apr 2007 2:45pm
Spring Rain User Info... | lemon juice eh! i know where they are coming in but , its like under the wood boarder around my window...they are relentless little buggies!...well thanks for all your advice looks like i have some shopping to do! lemon juice, beer, bayleaves, chalk ect.... i'll do it all to avoid ants in my pants...lol.... - Wed, 25 Apr 2007 6:44pm Edited: Wed, 25 Apr 2007 6:46pm
