Man nasty ear infection flying home, I may have to cancel a show tomorrow, That would be a first for me.

I was going through my shit cleaning tonite, I've always kept road diaries and tour Jornals so here is an entry from a typical day out with snoop. For those of you that really wonder what a Big tour is like, or at least a Dogg style tour this is the boring reality.

....wake up, hit head on LCD screen again (shit) hit rear lounge see if we are outside or in the arena? Bongcheck.
Put on clothes and stroll inside....fuck, way cooler then the Forum and that was nice, biggest venue so far, mmmmm smoked meat sandwhiches today. Find Coffee, get my radio.
Right on squared up for whole tour p/d's today, I love US Cash.Steal Red Bulls for later on....Go sit on road case smoke a fat one a watch my shit come off the truck. Breakfast and Paper...walka round see who has what new strains or gifts today, big chunk of real hash and some nice Kief too, back to bus to make sure vaporiser is running fine, all is well! Wake up Casey Case ( drum Tech)
back inside hang with the local crew for a bit. Twist a couple..good set up under 25. Pick my two for later, its always the gals that listen!? Give locals fatties...line checks...Marlin shows up early as alwys no wonder he is bandleader, go out for some sights and shopping.Got my smoked meat and Marlin Gave me a sweetass Indian Larry Hoody, that was nice. Give away some passes to a street crew out postering, more hash. Back to venue check my shit go for supper. Stage black back to bus to smoke more weed and get on The PS3. Ian ( old Man) kicks my ass at golf I owe him a proper cup of tea, that could be a tough one.
Roll some for the show Cube rocked it tonite, really diggin his set. Do the change....hmm that smell again. 2nd song in Bass head goes up like a mushroom cloud, weird was still working till I yanked to AC sawp to a spare all good, get another tomorrow!!!!! Smoke weed, stand there, smoke weed, stand there, smoke weed stand there. Great night fast out 22 tonite, go to production see what meal or buyout is...mmmmmmmm more smoke meat sadwhiches. Everything on truck go say thanks to crew smoke some weed, walk around, cool as i was coming to the bus he Habs get home from a game, we all shoot the shit the band guys and hockey dudes check out the hockey guys new Bentley, Eat, smoke weed crawl in bunk watch some tv and drive to next city to repeat.

ha!
I've talked to enough musicians to know that what you wrote describes most of their childhood fantasies - 'cept you left some details out!
Seriously, on stage in front of THAT many screaming people every night and meeting stoked fans every day? Come on...

And I guess the rest of it may sound dull to some people, but I just read that over 4x, and totally ate it up. killer. - Thu, 8 Feb 2007 11:12pm Edited: Thu, 8 Feb 2007 11:13pm

Hey Sati....Hmm true....I will be 40 next week, a long way to get here trust me.

You learn to moderate or fall by the roadside...to stay in the business these days you really have to have your wits, the biggest thing helping me is my trashed liver and the fact I simply just can't get wasted, that will lead to you being an oilspot in some town somewhere real fast!

Hee hee...I'm slightly white for this gig...I was teching...we were lucky, everyone agreed it was a super smoothe tour, everyone truly got along and that is rare. 9-12 people on a bus everday same thing over and over again, well you get like a family pretty fast.

I'm lucky in my job to actually have some time to do stuff, the lighting, sound guys all they really see is the inside of arenas, first in last out...I just come in when they are ready for setting up the band...trust me you learn to NEVER rub that in another crew mwmbers face and ALWAYS lend a hand if needed,I'm that way by nature.

I miss my bed and books etc...I dearly miss my child, and crave normal conversation with normal people....but yes it pretty much is all I dreamt of as a kid....

There are a lot of ways of being true to yourself and chasing your goals in life, for me my biggest thing is finding the balance of being the parent I want to be and still living my life on my terms, ain't been easy but hey, it looks good for the next few months, and well, treat people right, follow the task at hand and something is bound to come along right? my philosophy thats all. - Thu, 8 Feb 2007 11:26pm Edited: Thu, 8 Feb 2007 11:28pm

There's something SO romantic (if thats the word?) about that whole experience. Everytime I've ever met or hung out with people who got to live out that kind of life, I've been very aware that I was smack in the midst of a lot of people's big, big fantasies come true. VERY aware.. I've almost teared up at the dumbest things - people talking about playing or working certain rooms, meeting heroes, meeting young kids, waiting backstage to go on, looking out to the back of a stadium, that kind of thing. The distance & loneliness, that sacrifice, is somewhat romantic too, I think.
And I guess there's a difference between performing and supporting (teching), but not in the way I mean - you're still participating in all that excitement. Big acts bring out all kinds of fans who're inspired to major heights, and thats pretty cool too.
Anyway, way to go, and a big h.b. too! - Thu, 8 Feb 2007 11:52pm Edited: Thu, 8 Feb 2007 11:55pm

I'm glad to see that Mr Barrie seems at least to have found a good balance...

Cool mon, I understand about borders and shit. We'll have a swig instead. Moncton eh? Most smart kids are desperate to get out of that town; Sometimes they will run behind the bus and beg you to take them where-ever you are going (Even if that happens to be Ottawa or some other hellhole) - Fri, 9 Feb 2007 1:12am Edited: Fri, 9 Feb 2007 1:16am
