wee User Info... | This week's issue of Monday has the ballot for our fifth annual M Awards! We've changed the format up a bit this year, so be sure to snag yourself a copy of this week's issue and vote for your local faves in Victoria's art scene in categories like favourite solo artist, live music venue, dancer, new play, visual artist....the list goes on! Voting in the M Awards not only helps to give Victoria's arts community the recognition it deserves, but it also enters you to win fabulous prizes like theatre and concert tickets, books, CDs, and a getaway for two at Parksville's Tigh-Na-Mara Resort! Ballots must be in by January 26, and we'll announce the winners at our annual M Awards gala next month. - Thu, 11 Jan 2007 10:30am
Jeremy Baker User Info... | hey, do you guys need an MC for the award show? I love crowds :-) Does Monday also do a contest for best eateries, best make-out spot, best trends and stuff like the Georgia Straight? - Thu, 11 Jan 2007 5:21pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | MMmmmmmmm... Awards!!! Let the debating start!!! - Thu, 11 Jan 2007 10:28pm
Tyler User Info... | I want to see all the award categories, we should have a livevic thread with all our answers - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 12:07pm
Metropol Steve User Info... | They seemed to have dropped the gigposter of the year category. Unfortunate, given that our design department (Matt Cecill, Joey MacDonald and Brandon Velestuk) cranked out some really awesome stuff in the past year. If you're interested, check out our 10 best from 2006 on display at Rising Star Deli on Broad. Steve Metropol - Fri, 12 Jan 2007 2:38pm
amanda f User Info... | Amanda from Monday here... yeah, the gig poster section didn't make it in this year, unfortunately... but there's no reason why the design team at Metropol couldn't be nominated in the best artist (any medium) category! - Sun, 14 Jan 2007 10:15pm
amanda f User Info... | Oh and Jeremy: I think we already have an MC, but thanks for the gracious offer! I think the reason we don't do the Georgia Straight-esque categories is because the Vic News et all already do a "Best in the City" thing...although I highly doubt theirs has a "Best Place to Pick up a MILF or DILF" category, haha! - Sun, 14 Jan 2007 10:18pm
MM User Info... | There's another ballot in this week's Monday. Grab one and vote for your favourites. Ballots have to be dropped off no later than 5pm, Friday January 26. - Fri, 19 Jan 2007 9:30am
amanda f User Info... | Hi all, Just a friendly reminder that 5pm FRIDAY, JANUARY 26 is the last deadline for handing in M awards ballots. That's only two days left to vote for your faves in Victoria's arts scene. Ballots can be found on page 17 of our Jan. 18-24 and Jan. 11-17 issues. Winners will be announced in the March 1 issue and there are many prizes to be won, so go vote! - Wed, 24 Jan 2007 10:37am
todd User Info... | Man, I was really disappointed with the new format. I thought it was a reader's poll, but I think the editorial coercion of the 'multiple choice' format was really lame. There were a lot of people who I didn't see, and really I think filling out the 'other:___________' category would be a waste of time. Hope you don't make the same mistake next year. - Wed, 31 Jan 2007 3:33pm
Tyler User Info... | I'm going to agree that I think the multiple choice isn't really fair. I didn't want to fill out "other" for almost every category, knowing the people or bands wouldn't win. It was kind of unfair but I guess that's to be expected. - Thu, 1 Feb 2007 5:51pm
amanda f User Info... | We're the first to admit it's not a perfect system, but we opted to put some names on the ballots because some find a totally blank form intimidating, or just have one or two things they really want to vote for and have a tough time coming up wit the minimum amount of categories required for a ballot to be legit. Judging by the number of ballots we got in this year (significantly more than in previous years, I'm told) it was a safe assumption. I guess we'll see when the votes are tallied just how many winners didn't have their names on the ballots. Only time will tell. - Thu, 8 Feb 2007 12:42am
