| Zippgunn User Info... | What a stupid question. What does "signed to a label" actually mean. Hot Hot Heat are "signed" to Sub Pop/Warners but other than that I don't think anybody who actually lives here is in bondage to a major label. For about 6 months in 1995 I was signed (with the Show Business Giants) to EMI/Thorn/Virgin/Essential Noise and it was the biggest joke of my music career (I did make a couple thou but it was money for a video that we never made). Our record cover was right next to Sgt. Pepper on the cover of the fall 1995 EMI Canada catalogue and there was a sticker on the CD with my name on it but otherwise... Luckily we engineered the contract so that we retained the rights to the record once it had been out of print for 6 months or something and when the inevitable deletion occurred we put it out on our Dutch label where it has remained ever since. | Zippgunn User Info... | P.S. Dave Gogo was signed to EMI at about the same time as us and I STILL hear him described as a "Capitol/EMI recording artist" even though his record lasted about as long as ours in the catalogue. - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 2:35pm | ||
| Bernie | No, I didn't mean "Who here are signed to BIG labels?" I meant to ask if anyone/ any band was getting label support on the island. Not in any way saying that if you are an independant artist you aren't as good. I listen to more self-released music than I do music released by labels. - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 2:52pm | ||
