Message Board > General Chitchat > Where Do You Buy Your Gear Local Or OnLine??? Local Shops Websites Rated!! |
The Wolf User Info... | When you shop for gear do you research on-line and then buy local? Is there any decent local shops with websites on par with http://www.tomleemusic.ca ? Here's my issues with the ones I have Found http://www.long-mcquade.com - Rating 5/10 No useful info that I am used to on other websites ... I can't search Store Stock, No Prices ... No useful info that I can't find elsewhere other than Clinics http://www.tomleemusic.ca Rating 9/10 Can check store stock, Prices listed on most items, Flyer is viewable, can send email inquiries to stores. http://www.larsenmusic.ca/cgi-bin/store/agora.cgi Rating 7.5/10 They don't carry alot of what I am looking for but is is way better than L&M's website . Prices, Pictures,Info ETC Tempo Trend http://www.islandnet.com/~tempo/index.htm Rating 4/10 Seems to be just Accordians...Nice URL? http://www.guitarsplusvictoria.com/ Rating Pending "Still Underconstruction?" http://classicguitars.com/ Rating 8/10 Other than the BRIGHT ORANGE not a bad site for a small shop! Prices, Decent Pictures,Contact Info - Tue, 19 Dec 2006 5:31am
::Saint:: User Info... | Basically all of the websites are crap. Tom Lee has a nice design, but crappy, crappy inventory, Larsen's design is clunky AND their inventory sucks.. guitarsplus is, as you say, under construction, and then there is classicguitars, which looks and works like a giant, orange, lump of turd. And also crappy stock. Nice! - Wed, 20 Dec 2006 12:46pm
Mean Mike User Info... | Tom Lee's site sucks, they dont list alot of the stuff they actually have in stock, and Ive seen stuff on the site, that the guys in store say they never got in the first place... :D - Wed, 20 Dec 2006 7:18pm
jeff User Info... | why dont you just go outside and shop? - Wed, 20 Dec 2006 7:40pm
The Wolf User Info... | Nice to see what's out there and available...Stores don't carry much of what is made! - Wed, 20 Dec 2006 10:42pm
Colin User Info... | Long & McQuade's site about as useful as a "still under construction" page. I would have given it a big fat 0/10. It's frustrating that they are the only store that carries most of what I'm interested in because the site doesn't have prices listed nor does their search engine find shit. I go out and shop sometimes, but sometimes I just want a quick price from them if I see something on the internet. Calling them with an inquery is a gamble at best... getting "transfered to the ________ department" usually ends in being put on hold for 20 minutes until someone gets sick of the little light on the phone blinking and picks up and asks you what the hell you wanted. On the brighter side their prices usually end up being the best, so why not advertise them on the site? A better site is deffinately in order for L&M. - Thu, 21 Dec 2006 1:42am
J User Info... | i usually look online to soley research the product im after and also other products of the same if not better quality of different brands. Then I head to the stores to see what they have availiable. With stores like L&M, they might not have the physical stock here... but with the buying power they have in the music industry*(here) they'd be able to order it in just as fast, and if you bug them enuff they might even pay the shipping cost too lol*(not likely tho). I work in a small business and we can get pretty much anything related to our biz, whether we stock it or not... but the buyer has to be obligated to buy somthing specially ordered for them(understandable) or its a waste of our money to have it shipped here and back again(obveous). I try not to buy too much stuff online cuz you really dont save much on new wares, as opposed to 'used' wares(ie, usedvictoria.com, craigslist.com), and you get manufacture's warrenty from buying it at a store instead of some internet retailer. Sorry to go on about it but im bored as hell at work and really have nothing better to do lol, so happy non-denominational holidays! - Thu, 21 Dec 2006 2:06pm
STBP User Info... | Used the Tom Lee site to order an amp, no problems, quick delivery. Way cheaper than Victoria L&M to have it shipped over from Vancouver. Bring on that Langford store! - Thu, 21 Dec 2006 8:15pm
ak User Info... | what kinds of things are good on websites for guitar stores? used inventory photos? what strings are available - is that too minute a detail? - Thu, 21 Dec 2006 8:30pm
The Wolf User Info... | AK Good Question. On an Ideal Guitar Store website I would look for! A) Pictures of New and Used Gear, with the ability to make the picture larger B) Price and availbility. A way to check your stores inventory , So if I truck down there is it actually available to hold and purchase? C) Basic info about unit with features and a listing of step of features.. If I buy Guitar "A" for $50 more what am I getting over Guitar "B" D) No ugly Flash animations, Colours etc... Keep the background White with No Pop Ups if possible . Make it Firefox Friendly and dont forget Macs... E) A way to view your current Ad in a PDF File Essentially if you could take features from electronics retailers http://www.sonystyle.ca http://www.futureshop.ca I would be happy PS anyone see an Ibanez SRX390 4-String Electric Bass Guitar in town for sale ? - Thu, 21 Dec 2006 10:02pm

The Wolf User Info... | RE: Tyler "why dont you just go outside and shop?" CAUSE WE ARE MEN..SHOPPING SUCKS! And if I went shopping I might get the impression the only Bass's carried in the world are Fenders IE L&M The internet is where I/We get our info then go to the store to see/buy the product... - Wed, 27 Dec 2006 10:11pm
Tyler User Info... | I think whenever I've been in your position I've used huge internet sites to research specific models or products, then done some phoning to see who has things or can order things in. I suppose it would be easier if local shops had sites that listed everything but I still don't think it's necessary for the average buyer, especially since it would require so much constant updating with new stock and price changes, information that can easily be attained with a simple visit or phone call. - Wed, 27 Dec 2006 10:45pm
The Wolf User Info... | Decent site here..nothing I am interested in but it's better than a lot of other sites http://www.brassandwoodwind.ca/ http://www.guitarsplusvictoria.com/ IS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION and now http://www.larsenmusic.ca/cgi-bin/store/agora.cgi Our new store and website are currently under construction. We hope to launch the new version sometime in February or March. We will be offering an expanded selection, improved interface, and the ability to view your account history, pay your account, start a rental, and view the status of repairs. Please check back soon! Thank you! - Fri, 26 Jan 2007 11:28pm

The Wolf User Info... | Larsen Music in addition to the Store on Cook St has a E-Bay Store http://stores.ebay.ca/larsen-music45_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZQ2d999QQftidZ2QQtZkm - Mon, 4 Jun 2007 12:32am
J User Info... | I work near gordies and its a good store for sure. Good service, prices, and knick-knacks there. I haven't made any bigger purchases there, but it seems that they do good business with all used and new equipment. I reccommend at least going there to check it out. - Mon, 4 Jun 2007 11:18am
