I was told last week that Dave died suddenly and tragically in Montreal, killed by a hit and run driver. I waited for someone to post about it, but took the reins today after reading his obit in the Globe and Mail. I won't repeat it though it's worth reading.

Dave made a huge contribution to both the punk and metal scenes in Victoria, and was a good friend to a great many people... well loved even at his moodiest. I wasn't as close to him as some of my good friends were but I'm saddened nontheless and my thoughts go out to everyone he touched. My heart goes out to the family, most of all his son.

He'd be shrugging with mild disdain at me gushing about how good he was, and how important to the scene, but I'll be raising a glass to him this Christmas weather he likes it or not.

For those not familiar with his music, look up Moral Decay, M Blanket and Daddy's Hands... and enjoy his piece of our history. - Mon, 18 Dec 2006 7:14pm Edited: Mon, 18 Dec 2006 7:49pm

I beleive the last time I saw Moral Decay it was at The Roxy with D.R.I. and Caustic Thought.. or did they play the Sacred Reich show there? - Tue, 19 Dec 2006 10:45am Edited: Tue, 19 Dec 2006 10:46am

I walked past the Roxy when that happened (I used to live half a block down Quadra around that time), good thing I didn't go to that gig, I heard it was quite nasty. - Tue, 19 Dec 2006 1:18pm

wasnt nasty.. but Howie tried to implement a no moshing rule, and I think about 3 rows of movie chairs got wrecked..

The night before that the band ALL played there.. and the stabbing incident etc left a bad impression on quite a few followed by a show where so many chairs get broken.. - Tue, 19 Dec 2006 5:09pm

I don't know, I thought Howie stopped having gigs at the Roxy cause the movie screen was covered in beer, and then I think Cretin emptied a fire extinguisher onto the screen, Howie said sorry that's it, NO MORE GIGS. And I thought more then 3 rows of chairs were ripped out. Good times!!! I thought Jake from The Remanes was bleeding from some injury, and got pulled onto the stage. I know the strangest part of that DRI gig happened afterwards at the Rats Nest, DRI was playing there and Garry lost the stairs at the front of the house cause everyone showed up to see DRI (a near riot occured, cause well it's DRI). - Tue, 19 Dec 2006 5:26pm Edited: Tue, 19 Dec 2006 5:30pm

the ol' saying... "It is what you make of it.."

but I mistakenly, confused D.R.I. with M.D.C. so it doesn't make much of a difference anyway..

Cuz, this city is definitely hurting for some consistent entertainment, by the sounds of it these days.

Not, that it makes much difference, because, I spend a lot of time on the road, travellling rather than hanging out in Victoria..

Did, any of you, know that building (corner of Quadra and Hillside) with the bungalow apartments above Capitol City Furniture and San Remo's..? Since, someone mentioned the Roxy?

Was that like a place that housed musicians? - Sat, 23 Dec 2006 5:30pm Edited: Sat, 23 Dec 2006 5:31pm
