Message Board > General Chitchat > Hughes vs St. Pierre... |
Name / Alias User Info... | Whom do you favor? I'm hoping St. Pierre breaks Hughes' jaw, then his arm, then his toes. Don't know though, Hughes is pretty tough. St. Pierre will need to keep it standing I think, that's where Matt Hughes weakness lies. If BJ didn't gas, I believe he would've knocked Hughes out. What are your thoughts? - Wed, 8 Nov 2006 4:47pm

MURDALIZER User Info... | I would like to see George win because he's canadian and I always root for our guys, but I think Matt will beat him, Matt's cardio and strength are superior. The Super heavey weight fight sounds like a bad joke Silvia vs Monson, overall this UFC is shaping up to be a really boring one, hopefully I'm wrong. - Wed, 8 Nov 2006 6:56pm
Swingin' Joe User Info... | It won't be boring once Tito kicks the shit out of Liddell, yes I truly believe that, because Tito has the eye of the tiger. - Wed, 8 Nov 2006 10:08pm
Rawb User Info... | I'm pulling for George because I think he's an extremely exciting fighter to watch as well as being a techinically well-rounded fighter. However, Hughes is a machine and his unusual strength/cardio are fators that can swing any fight in his favour. That said, any fighter can beat any other fighter on any given day so here's to George-- one of the people I feel is the future of the sport. Anybody in here into Nick Diaz? I love that guy. - Wed, 8 Nov 2006 10:44pm

Name / Alias User Info... | Yes, Nick Diaz rules. I think he is the epitome of the term, "well rounded fighter". He is awesome on the ground due to his Gracie Jiu-Jitsu training, but almost always opts to keep it standing. Even with guys who are very well known to knock mofo's out. His cardio rules & he can take a killer punch too. In fact, I don't recall ever seeing him be knocked out. Or submitted for that matter. All his losses (including 3 of his last 4 fights) have come by judges decision & were by no means "one sided" fights & I believe he is on a comeback trail. I guess we'll find out on Nov.18 as he is an undercard fight that night. There are actaully quite a few well known undercard fighters that night; Joe stevenson, Brandon Vera vs. Frank Mir (I'm looking forward to this one), James Irvin (hope he pulls out his flying knee) & Brad Imes. My hope is for GSP to be wearing the belt at the end. As for the heavy weight fight, I don't know what Sylvia's reach advantage is, but being 6'8" & 265 lbs (although I think he's cut weight since those stats were posted) vs Monson's 5'9" & 240 lbs. a full 11" shorter, Sylvia's reach has got to be miles longer. Sylvia will be looking for Monson to shoot (his only hope to win in my opinion) & Sylvia will be wating with a well placed knee to his facial region. - Thu, 9 Nov 2006 7:46am

Name / Alias User Info... | Tomorrow night Hughes has his belt pried from his unconscious, jock/hillbilly hands. St. Pierre's bringin' it home to Canada!!! - Fri, 17 Nov 2006 7:02am

Name / Alias User Info... | Fucken' eh! & I do mean EH!!!! Canadian St. Pierre absolutely dominated the "un-beatable" Hughes tonight, claiming the welter-weight belt. The first round showed Pierre's dominance in the stand-up game & definitely would've finished Hughes, had the bell not rung! The second round was cut short when St. Pierre landed a high kick to Hughes's head, (does anyone remember Lidell vs. Sobral Pt.1) that dropped Hughes faster than a hit of acid at a Timothy Leary party. This was followed by a few well placed punches & vicious elbows, sending Big John flying into the midst, to seperate the two & end the fight. TKO bitches!!! All you "nay-sayers", suck a turd!!! I think even Matt Hughes knew he was going to lose, when it showed him & his camp back-stage before the fight, huddled down, praying to an un-listening (non-existent) god. Overall, this UFC was pretty damn awesome, with victories from Vera, Stevenson & Irvin. (apparentley Diaz won tonight too, but that fight wasn't aired although I would've rather seen that one than a couple others). - Sun, 19 Nov 2006 12:46am Edited: Sun, 19 Nov 2006 12:46am
