Message Board > General Chitchat > Car audio question |
evilkleg User Info... | Hello everyone. I noticed the other day that usedvictoria.com has a ton of car audio stuff for cheap and it's time to upgrade! My question is what is the best speaker/driver/sub combination for modern metal? I assume that most of the stuff for sale is for hip hop music. I don't think I need 2 12" subs for metal. But is one 8 or 10" in a box gonna cut it? Any advice on amps would be helpful too. This is all going into an '81 Monte Carlo which already has 2 4x8's (the only size that will fit without modification) in the back. Thanks for your help. - Fri, 22 Sep 2006 10:22am
_Griphin_ User Info... | If your gonna get a kickin' car stereo, don't install it so the frame rattles, it makes the acoustics SUCK and there's nothing worse then a car that sounds like it rattles (that annoying buzzing sound). It's not good for the car frame I think! - Fri, 22 Sep 2006 11:05am
evilkleg User Info... | I've never had a really kickin' system in my car before so I'm wondering what configuration the metalheads out there are running? - Fri, 22 Sep 2006 11:18am
J User Info... | my old car(s) have had: 1x 12" orion colbalt blue sub w/800 watt 4 channel amp 4x mb quart mids and tweeters alpine head unit and 2 x 12 kenwood kickers, 4x 300watt american proline amps, 4 x mb quart mids, 2x 6/9's infinity, epi-center(added echo and reverb), proline EQ, Fat Cap. nakamichi head unit all systems used monster cabling and had professional installs. the latter was wayyyy too much for any sort of metal/rock/pop but it was awesome for lowwww bass tones and booming bass was also a show car for sound competitions back in the mid 90's the first system is the cleanest setup i've had in any car, and highly recommend all orion equipment and MB quart speakers. both cars were 1981 320i bmw hope it helps, if you need anything else just ask - Fri, 22 Sep 2006 2:40pm Edited: Fri, 22 Sep 2006 2:42pm
moron User Info... | Been looking at car amps lately for guerrilla shows. Be forewarned that specs listed are almost always complete bullshit (these manufacturers should be ashamed of themselves for pulling such crap). Be sure to look at how the power ratings are calculated. Most seem to list what the power would be ridiculously low ohm ratings (i.e. 1200W @ 1 ohm). Most speaker setups are likely to be in the 4 to 8 ohm range I expect so make sure you are comparing apples with apples. Cheers - Fri, 22 Sep 2006 4:10pm
