Cheeky User Info... | Dumb question, but is Mayfair lanes still open? I live in the little town of brentwood so I don't go out to Vic much, but I heard a rumour awhile back that they were going to close, and now no one picks up the phone there.... I want to bowl damnit!! - Sun, 27 Aug 2006 6:50pm
Jesspsycho User Info... | The only bowling left in Victoria is the gay ass five pin bowling at Town and Country lanes. Sucks ass! - Sun, 27 Aug 2006 6:57pm
Ty Stranglehold User Info... | Is it gone now? I heard that they were going to close it, but it wasn't going to take place for almost a year. Where the hell am I going to practice for Punk Rock Bowling this year? - Sun, 27 Aug 2006 8:15pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | My mother is in a bowling group, and as far as I know, Town and Country bowling is still in operation. What I'm curious about, will they be building another bowling alley once Mayfair and T&C is no more? - Sun, 27 Aug 2006 10:59pm
ML7Mike User Info... | Final bowling with bar ended May 31 when their licence expired. I know cuz we went about May 25th for a final few games and jugs. Apparently they opened in the afternoons only for a week or so into June.. Soon to be a Canadian Superstore, and the guy who rents the shoes said they paid 5x the value of the land, and that unless Mayfair can find 4 acres within city limits they wont be back. - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 11:13am Edited: Mon, 28 Aug 2006 11:13am
STBP User Info... | I don't expect that kind of vacant land exists in town anymore. I'm sure some keen business person will jump on the underserved market and put up some kind of bowlarama somewhere in the Western Communities. - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 1:24pm
wheate User Info... | Twas open a little longer than may, actually well into July after many add on days. The last day of the liquor license was somewhere in June. Really fucked up that a city the size of Victoria is being denied one of the few great sports remaining in which you get better with more alcohol. As consolance to all you diehards, of which Id like to think I am, Duncan Lanes was visited last Friday to great joy. The lanes actually light up like great rolls of toilet paper in the black lights during rocknbowl. Oh yeah, long live Metrobowl, represent. - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 7:28pm
Ty Stranglehold User Info... | Hey Phil, T&C is only 5 Pin so it don't mean shit! I think Big Rick told me that there was a 10 Pin out in Sidney. Is it true? - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 8:45pm
Cheeky User Info... | There is a bowling ally in sidney but its only 5 lanes and plays britney spears non stop. and plus sidney goes asleep at 5 in the afternoon. We tried going to T&C tonight, walked in, walked out... lame. - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 11:37pm
Lurker User Info... | Town & Country is still open but their future is very much up in the air. The place for someone to throw some money into opening a new bowling alley is most definitely in Langford. It would attact all of the Victoria bowling crowd, and could pull some business from Duncan as well (Duncan Lanes is on a downhill slide with the condition of their lane surfaces). Land is cheaper in Langford and people would be willing to go out of town to a decent bowling alley with a good bar.... bring some bands in and you're the hottest spot in town. Take it from Nanaimo's only punk rock bowler... I've worked & bowled at everywhere around here. - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 11:50pm Edited: Mon, 28 Aug 2006 11:52pm
Peter Gardner User Info... | theres a bowling alley in sidney, as someone already said. But its not very good - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 11:52pm Edited: Mon, 28 Aug 2006 11:53pm
Lurker User Info... | There's a shitty bowling alley in Sidney, yes. - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 11:53pm
ML7Mike User Info... | the guy who owns Mayfair also owns a bunch of alleys on the mainland, so its possible they could resurface here someday. Town and Country Lanes I heard is already slated to be taken over by Walmart, but now they are going to completely rebuild T&C Mall anyhow so who knows! - Tue, 29 Aug 2006 9:10am
_Griphin_ User Info... | You know, I don't get it, why doesn't someone build a new bowling alley?!? It's not like there short on bowling alley equipment, as 2 bowling alleys are no more. I don't get it, is there no money in running an alley?!? - Tue, 29 Aug 2006 12:32pm
Lurker User Info... | There can be lots of money in it if you do it right. Building a bowling alley does require an enormous amount of startup capital though. Even if machines are acquired from other bowling alleys, they must be repaired and brought up to date. Beyond that, items such as scoring systems, lanes, and other equipment including bowling pins, balls, shoes, and stereo equipment get pricey. - Tue, 29 Aug 2006 2:47pm
ML7Mike User Info... | well as the guy said at Mayfair.. No space. Trying to find 4 acres in this city thats not a bazillion dollars is pretty much impssible, unless they hit the WestComm's With mega corp companies like Candian Superstore willing to pay 5x the lands value.. who can compete? - Tue, 29 Aug 2006 3:46pm Edited: Tue, 29 Aug 2006 3:47pm
Keegz User Info... | Wow, Google "Mayfair Lanes" and surprising what your find. So here is a head's up for some of you. I worked at Mayfair for 4 years, and my dad worked/is still working for the same company going on 37 years. As Frazer Johnson said, startup cost is HUGE! my house right now looks like the Centre, From the big WELCOME TO MAYFAIR LANES mirror that was behind the front desk, now hung in our foyer of our house. to $10,000 phone systems sitting in our garage. We have looked into Langford and other places to re-open, but the hard part is, why invest in something that wont make money as fast as other things. Look at drive in movies,,,, They are great, but unfortunatly (eventually) you loose your captive market, and land costs are soo high. All and all, Personally, I would like to thank everyone who bowled at Mayfair, it was a fun place to work, the best part of it all was driving my BMW 740IL through the buildng on our last day of operations. That was a blast. dont expect a bowling centre to appear in the WestShore for along time. - Sun, 24 Sep 2006 10:10pm
Ty Stranglehold User Info... | Yo Keegz, any way I could buy some shoes and a ball from you guys? - Mon, 25 Sep 2006 1:07am
Keegz User Info... | Surprsingly, we left all of that in the Centre, I have part of the Bose Soundsystem in my basement that I wont part with. - Mon, 25 Sep 2006 11:47am
Jesspsycho User Info... | Hey Ty Do you want a mayfair bowling ball and shoes specifically or......? My brother might be willing to part with one of his bowling balls and shoes. What size are ya? - Mon, 25 Sep 2006 3:24pm
Ty Stranglehold User Info... | It doesn't have to be from Mayfair... I just need stuff for Punk Rock Bowling this year. My feet are 10.5 and I'm not too sure of what size of ball I should be using. - Mon, 25 Sep 2006 5:13pm
Mace User Info... | Hez. I's just kidding, hez. - Mon, 25 Sep 2006 6:29pm
