The Box Drone User Info... | Korg's electribe line might be a good place to start. They're relatively inexpensive & are of decent quality. If he gets one than can sample the sonic possibilities are pretty much endless. - Thu, 7 Sep 2006 10:58pm

mactac User Info... | acoustica has a product called beatcraft that has a pretty good working demo... it's easy to use, sounds good... .... ... and best of all I did a lot of the drum samples for them ! :) - Sun, 17 Sep 2006 9:37am
lonemonk User Info... | Mac mentioned Acoustica, so I'll chime in with FruityLoops. Not sure what its like now, but always found it intuitive to run, use whatever samples you want. - Wed, 20 Sep 2006 8:41pm
ill S Preston, Esquire User Info... | It depends on what kind of beats you're trying to make with it. You can by a drum machine with pre set sounds or you can buy a sampler/sequencer that you can sample and create your own drum kits. I use the Akai MPC2000XL to make hip hop beats. It's one of the best sampler/sequencers for your money. But there are several other models varying in price range to choose from. I prefer outboard gear too, I think software sucks, with the MP, you can bang on the pads till the cows come home it's practically indestructable. I prefer the hands on feel as opposed to the point and click. But to each his own. - Tue, 26 Sep 2006 10:33pm Edited: Tue, 26 Sep 2006 10:35pm
