_Griphin_ User Info... | That I never got to drink at the Cherry Bank hotel, and now it's gone :( - Wed, 16 Aug 2006 12:06pm Edited: Wed, 16 Aug 2006 12:46pm
Mace User Info... | It's really weird that you mention this. It was a decent place, good staff, good place to play off-track horse races. (Better than 'the new place'...imo, ) Anyhow, as a witness (supposedly one of my friends and former neighbour) writes to Victoria Police in statement, "Macen and his Girlfriend offered Us out to lunch in which we attended, the first thing I noticed is how Macen started drinking, heavily." (Which is bullshit, the person who said this is a rat-snitch-lying-piece-of-shit-fuckenGOOF...! It's funny, how you can pay for lunch and everything, and then someone who you consider your friend or friends for that matter, turn around and then for whatever jealousy's sake, stab you in the back. The restaurant was going to go though a couple different reno's the last I heard, then we went to go back, after one of my 'other' court trials- in late Feb. We had no idea it had just been closed down, the building still standing, and wondered why all of a sudden that Cherry Bank had to close. We estimated, Griph. Because of all the surrounding construction in the area and all the new condo's being built. SImply. Two words: 'Property Value.' I walked past there as I almost do every every single night, last night, and the night before- I was saying to myself how, creepy and spooky it felt when I walked down the street- where the front of the building and the stairs to the hotel- used to be. I thought, somebody was going to jump out at me and attack me. (But I would have been ready, you know what I'm sayin' holmes..) What was your connection to this place Grif, other that you could see it, once you left the Courthouse? If it was still open- You could've played the $2 you owe me on a 'trifecta wager' and won $700. {have Griphin's thread moved to the 'C&Q' section Ms. Sati- plznthx sweetie luv's ya' bab's ;)} - Wed, 16 Aug 2006 2:14pm Edited: Wed, 16 Aug 2006 2:19pm
Mister Luke User Info... | It's sad. The Cherry Bank was my default drinking hole for quite a few years. It was relaxed, the food was good, the beer was cheap, the staff were friendly, and the decor was fucking awesome. It was always full of 80-year-old British dudes betting on horses; the average age would drop by a couple of decades as soon as I walked in. I remember spending an evening there with a half dozen friends getting shitfaced and playing Risk in one of those huge comfy booths with the enormous overstuffed fake leather benches. Good Times. They were threatening to close for years, and it finally happened a some months ago. Too bad. - Wed, 16 Aug 2006 2:58pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | No connection, although I've heard that Lettuce used to drink there a lot. It's where all the old school punkers used to drink, I've never been there myself (well, not that I can remember), it's always a shame when a bit of Victorian history disappears to make way to line some morons pockets with ca$h. - Wed, 16 Aug 2006 4:01pm
Mace User Info... | Doesn't look like there will be much in terms of a re-developed Cherry Bank. Make way for some new condominiums there, apparently 51 of them in a 6 story (floor) plan are in the works of being built. An L-shaped building, blah, blah, entrance off of Rupert Terrace, (in come the roaring parking meters) with 'the idea' of increasing commericial traffic on Rupert Terrace. lonemonk User Info... | Yep, awesome place. Two things: 1. Clay George (esq) wrote and performs a wonderful little ditty called "The Cherry Bank Hotel". 2. Rather than the elderly English folk, I enjoyed watching the small and bent chinese fellow who was there every time I was, and he never left before I had. Total off-track horse addict for sure. Never saw him TOUCH a drink. Suave announcer: "The Cherry Bank Hotel: More than just that place across from the Courthouse!" You all know what the Irony is eh? I'd rather DRINK across from the Courthouse than actually LIVE there!!! - Thu, 17 Aug 2006 8:28pm Edited: Thu, 17 Aug 2006 8:34pm
