hoffa User Info... | I have been the Boss LS-2 line selector A-B swithing device for a while now. Suddenly one of the line/loops drops the signal volume drastically. When I swap-out the cables it either stays the same or switches the problem from the A loop to the B loop (or vice versa). I have had an electronics repairman who repairs my amps and speakers check it out and he can't find a problem inside. Suggestions on how to repair it? - Tue, 18 Jul 2006 11:07am
Mi*coll* User Info... | cable problem? impedence difference between the two sources? - Tue, 18 Jul 2006 12:29pm
aidan knight! User Info... | i thought the LS-2 had gains for both channels? - Tue, 18 Jul 2006 8:33pm
hoffa User Info... | Mi*coll* - as I mentioned I had swapped out all the cables to eliminate them as a problem, so it must be something else. aidan knight! - Yes the A & B have gain dials, both of which I keep flat (right down the middle) because I don't want any heat or roll-off on the signal. I just switch between loops and bypass. So, I did not mistakenly turn one up or down an not the other, I checked that first. Thanks for your input guys. Any other ideas are welcome as well. - Wed, 19 Jul 2006 11:42am
laprider User Info... | Hey Hoffa...hmm This is how I set mine up A/ fingerpick acoustic to DI B/ Strum acoustic to DI bypass/ electric to an amp I've done this for years and never encountered what you are having. Kind of strange and got me stumped. If it was me I would take it apart, check all my solder joints etc....who knows sometimes pedals just die for some reason. How are you using the pedal, maybe you have issue with things being at Line level or mic level??? - Wed, 19 Jul 2006 11:58am
hoffa User Info... | Laprider, I have the LS-2 in my amp's effects loop (effects level on full). I have the A or B or Bypass option selected. I run and power a tuner, tremelo, phaser and delay off either A or B and leave the other loop/line empty. I used to run a wah on the alternate loop/line but currently I am not. Q-lectronics checked it out and said the soldering was OK. This problem happened briefly a few months back and disappeared on its own. You're probably correct about the pedal simply wearing out. However, the anomalous behavior switches to whatever loop I'm running the pedals on (I have switched from A to B and back again). I have withdrawn one pedal at a time from the loop and the low volume signal persists. The empty loop/line and bypass are fine and loud. I'll try adding one pedal at a time with new cables all around and see what's up one more time. - Wed, 19 Jul 2006 1:38pm Edited: Wed, 19 Jul 2006 1:38pm
aidan knight! User Info... | well you should be able to adjust the line that dropped in volume, by bringing up the gain on that channel? i'd use the gains on it, that's one of the highlight features, imo. - Thu, 20 Jul 2006 11:19am
hoffa User Info... | Aidan, in regards to the gain levels there is a reason they are called "gain" knobs and not "volume". I don't want gain to colour the signal with clipping, which it does. It sounds all transiter-like. Besides, turning up the gain still doesn't "fix" the intermittant problem as it stands. It's like turning an oven to broil to "bake" a cake faster than it does at 350 degrees. The gain features aren't designed to push the signal to superhot levels because of a malfunction elsewhere. But, if that works for you may it serve you well. I use the gain just slightly when I run a wah on the other line because of signal degradation caused by lack of "true bypass" of the wah. If anyone else has info that would be cool. - Fri, 21 Jul 2006 3:05pm Edited: Fri, 21 Jul 2006 10:50pm
