Suffuckation User Info... | I've been noticing lately many people have been introding me to their other half as their partner. I always understood when it was a gay person refering to their bf/gf as their partner but now it seems that a shit load of people have abruptly started calling their heterosexual spouses and bf/gf's partners. Did I miss something? Did some one decide terms like wife and husband weren't PC? I'm not trying to start any debates or take any sides so lordpatch and canon.docre can just kick back and take a breather this time. I'm just asking a question. - Tue, 4 Jul 2006 1:02pm
Mi*coll* User Info... | ya, it's a pc thing. people have been doing it for years. - Tue, 4 Jul 2006 1:36pm
trevor corey User Info... | I like the terms pimp and ho, but hey, thats just my preferance. - Tue, 4 Jul 2006 2:22pm
ammut User Info... | It sounds pretty lame to me, like that person was assigned to them instead of choosen, makes me think of junior high and being 'partners' with someone else for a project. - Tue, 4 Jul 2006 2:26pm
Nik Olaz User Info... | Hey guys could you tell me about the latest stock market leads? I'd really like to know!!! - Tue, 4 Jul 2006 3:55pm Edited: Tue, 4 Jul 2006 3:55pm
KnifeGhost User Info... | Well, in lots of cases "husband and wife" aren't factually correct. And "boyfriend/girlfriend" seem old-fashioned to a lot of people, "lovers" seems really 80s soft-core porn, "going out" isn't always strictly accurate, and there isn't a short clever term for "we've been living together for 3 years and want to be together forever but don't see any reason to get married in the traditional religious/legal sense so fuck it" and they're thrown up their hands and accepted a neutral term in common use. Which tends to be "parner." Personally, I fucking hate it. It sounds gutless and meaningless. It's not really "PC" in that people generally aren't using it to avoid offending people or stepping on their toes. It seems to me that people use it because the traditional terms to describe relationships don't have meaning for them. *shrug* I have no problem with that, but I hate the term people have happened to adopt. - Tue, 4 Jul 2006 6:39pm
MURDALIZER User Info... | I prefer the term "Roommate", you know, that way you can leave your options open, or better yet, "houseguest", or "endorphin releaser" but really a much more serious problem is BFF, best friends forever? yeah sure thats cool in grade six, but where is your bff when your 38 years old with 2 kids and you get caught playing "finger pupetts" with the babysitter? - Tue, 4 Jul 2006 7:58pm
ROSS B AY User Info... | oh Pauly, you always know the right thing to say......... - Tue, 4 Jul 2006 8:06pm

Jeremy Baker User Info... | I think it is just a word that is in vogue right now. My girl calls me her B-Friend... now how weak is that? - Wed, 5 Jul 2006 3:50pm
haden User Info... | B-Friend? As is Bee-friend? huh....is that a new fandangled way of saying boyfriend or best friend? - Wed, 5 Jul 2006 6:14pm
KnifeGhost User Info... | I usually go for "ladyfriend", but most girls won't go for it. Boo. If I ever met a girl who would a: go for ladyfriend and b: refer to me as a "gentleman caller", I'd probably propose on the spot. - Thu, 6 Jul 2006 1:34am

Mutilashawn User Info... | hearing "partner" is like jamming a needle in my eye. I can't stand it. no particular reason why .. it just seems very emotionally detached. even "female/male counterpart" is better and more endearing. - Thu, 6 Jul 2006 11:44am
moron User Info... | I prefer "associate" or "professional handler" myself. "Significant other" will do in a pinch. Cheers - Thu, 6 Jul 2006 12:01pm
laprider User Info... | Ah But the best is a "friend with benefits"! - Thu, 6 Jul 2006 12:34pm
Sati User Info... | I just used to say "This is [Doug]". I never felt the need to share the details of any relationships unless asked, even when it was a longterm, committed one. To be honest, I think its more about valuing both our freedoms to be viewed as individuals before anything else. I despise restriction. Whats bugging me these days is a friend who keeps referring to his buddy's gf as "his woman". And never by her name. Its like she's been clubbed over the head and dragged around by her hair. People who say "my man" all the time seems kinda wierd too. Like its all about property. I guess worse is the word bitch (long after the joke's over). And what about past generations who said "my ol' man/lady", UGH! Anyway, if necessary, I prefer the term "sweetheart".. cuz no one can help but smile at that. :) - Thu, 6 Jul 2006 3:52pm
Dr.DoomXXX User Info... | I can. I also refer to ammut as "my woman". If it doesn't bother her why should it bother you? - Thu, 6 Jul 2006 8:02pm
the barber User Info... | If you click on Dr. Doom's user info, you'll see a fine picture of "his woman", beard and all... - Thu, 6 Jul 2006 9:01pm Edited: Thu, 6 Jul 2006 9:01pm
Real Dynamite User Info... | I prefer "the old ball and chain" - Thu, 6 Jul 2006 9:21pm

Sati User Info... | Open, blech! Nope, still looking for an old ball & chain (that one'd make me smile too!) and DDXXX, if she doesn't mind people not being given her name, or your friends not referring to her by name, thats fine, I wouldn't care. I'd probably ask for it though cuz I'm like that. - Mon, 10 Jul 2006 12:27am Edited: Mon, 10 Jul 2006 12:28am
hurtsmyears User Info... | my wife and i use the term partner for each other. primarily, as a straight couple, we can legally get married anywhere, without any trouble. ridding ourselves of the terminology of marriage, we distance ourselves from the oppression biggots exercise over people who aren't straight. also, we have 'heterosexual privilege'. we can hold hands or hug or kiss in public. a gay couple can't do that without usually having to deal with someones homophobia. thus, we try to respect this absurdity by not flaunting our privelege. finally, the terms of 'husband' and 'wife' are drenched in negative gender stereotypes , and they aren't, in my lowly view, nearly as descriptive of our relation as the term 'partner' is. - Tue, 11 Jul 2006 9:17am
trevor corey User Info... | Partner IMO is just another way to say "keepin my options open" or "chickenshit" or "to cheap to buy my partner a ring and get all my friends drunk". Just m.o. - Wed, 12 Jul 2006 1:24am
Suffuckation User Info... | Yeah but with wild insinuations of biggotry and homophobia it's not hard to hide all that behind a shit load of PC garbage. - Sat, 15 Jul 2006 4:27pm

Not that i have anythin' against gay people, i just don't swing that way. and good home movies clip! i love that episode just for that scene only! "Perry, i want to go over the threshold now!" KnifeGhost User Info... | "i don't really give a shit, as long as the gay man dosen't try to make me his "pardner". Not that i have anythin' against gay people, i just don't swing that way." When's the last time that happened? And have you ever tried to make a woman your "pardner" when she wasn't interested? - Fri, 21 Jul 2006 3:08pm
