| Destr-OiOiOi User Info... | Well, as we know, Saddam knows how to cling to his position as dictator of Iraq. He's hung in there for many, many years, and will continue to do so, it seems. Saddam has made an interesting, and intelligent decision. UN sanctions decree that Saddam cannot sell oil to other countries unless under the US 'Oil for Food' program (has a cruel ring to it, eh?). However, it is allowed to make deals with other countries that go into effect when sanctions have been lifted. This is exactly what Saddam has done with some of the world's most powerful nations, Russia and France being the most notable. Iraq has entered in these deals, promising billions of barrels of crude to these countries. This means that a US-led war in Iraq is a danger to Russia's economic interests.
