_Griphin_ User Info... | What an awesome deal!!! I just bough this book today at Coles bookstore in Mayfair mall. The book is about 442 pages, but if your a Crumb fan, you'll be interested in a ton of comics/artwork drawn by R. Crumb in it (he did the original Fritz the Cat cartoon, but apparently had no say/control when the movie came out, for instance). It's also the biography of R. Crumb, actually. I haven't really sat down and read the book yet, but it also comes with a CD of the best of R. Crumb (in the many bands he's been in, he's a hardcore blues collector as well as collects 78s), so for $20 it's like buying a CD he released and a few comics. What an awesome deal, ANY fan of Crumb's work would be interested in getting this book!!! ROBERT CRUMB the creator of the world’s first X-rated cartoon Fritz the Cat has embarked on his latest, daring venture! The R.Crumb Handbook tells the story of how a loser-schmuck became a cultural icon, and is more than just another celebrity tell-all sexploitation. This brand new hardback collection of original cartoons with never before published work, takes the reader on a unique journey through the life and times of one of the 20th century’s most notorious – and influential counter culture artists. - Sun, 19 Feb 2006 5:36pm
lonemonk User Info... | I love the documentary which has been playing the last few months on the tube. Toward the end you find out that he traded a box of sketchbooks for a house in the south of France. He is shown being worried and complaining a bit about how the movers might handle his precious '78 collection. I'll check out the book as well. - Mon, 20 Feb 2006 3:32pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | So that's how he got the house, and I don't blame him for being worried about his 78's, his collection is huge (a picture of which is in the book). Apparently, he only moved some of them (I think). When he was in various bands, they would originally only release music on 78's (cause they were huge fans of the format), in the future they finally transfered the audio to CD. Guess that's what huge amounts of LSD use does to you. - Mon, 20 Feb 2006 3:55pm
Soap Dodger User Info... | Yeah Griphin, if you're a fan of Crumb you have to see the documentary that lonemonk is talking about. Great movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109508/ - Mon, 20 Feb 2006 5:19pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | You know, I keep seeing that movie, but I have yet to watch it. I used to have "Comic Book Confidental" on video tape, and that had an awesome section on R. Crumb, then again I should hunt down the coffee table book they released on him, cause the artwork is different then what is found in "Handbook". - Tue, 21 Feb 2006 1:12pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | This is the book I'm missing, I dunno if anyone in Victoria is selling it. Apparently they don't dupe in Handbook as to what subject material is covered here. - Sun, 26 Feb 2006 1:49am
