_Griphin_ User Info... | I just watched on The Daily that one of the rare Art Deco houses in Oak Bay the owners wish to tear down cause they want to build a new house, and they can't subdivide on it. I think I've seen the property before (there's a property right beside Ross Bay cemetary that looks similar, it actually looks really cool). Wow, I can honestly say that these people are really stupid, a lot of people have talked to the owners about saving it, but since they can't subdivide the property they want the property to build on. Talk about stupid rich people!!! - Tue, 20 Dec 2005 11:45am
jay brown User Info... | But why is that stupid Phil? It is after all their property and it is just a house if they dont want it there then why keep it? - Tue, 20 Dec 2005 3:26pm

The Box Drone User Info... | Rich people should be able to buy & destroy anything they want... after all, they have more money than everyone else. DUH! Besides... this world needs more subdivision & less historical architecture anyways. - Tue, 20 Dec 2005 4:28pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Because it's history, I know it sounds stupid. Because houses like that are getting rare. And because I really dislike people doing stupid things, that's all. Sorta like the house at the corner of Quadra and Bay streets. I realize that the owners are allowed to do whatever they want to it, but it's a WASTE OF SPACE!!! Do something smart with it, don't let it sit there. - Tue, 20 Dec 2005 4:29pm
jay brown User Info... | nuhuh you know what is history, the forest they cut down to put up that house in the first place. The house on top of it is a bunch of bricks and wood some guys built a few years ago. - Tue, 20 Dec 2005 7:06pm
Jeremy Baker User Info... | yeah, if you want to save the house, you need to BUY the house. - Tue, 20 Dec 2005 7:42pm
pubert User Info... | you guys are missing the point. do you know how much waste would be created just so those rich cunts can have a newer, cooler house? people with too much money are doing nothing to help the environment because they're concerned with 'the bottom line' (which i suppose is what made them rich in the first place), and having nice stuff. every year they trade in their 'old' SUV for a brand new one etc...i hope those peices of shit rot in the most putrid corner of hell, i hope they rot beneath a monolithic pile of rotten stinking corpses!! whacka whacka whacka!!!!!!!!!!!! - Tue, 20 Dec 2005 8:58pm

brad User Info... | "people with too much money are doing nothing to help the environment because they're concerned with 'the bottom line" what a stupid fucking post this is. however...a lot of old houses seem to get moved off site by nickel bros. and resold, seems a pretty cool way to recycle the house and there is certainly a market for older houses especially ones of heritage. newer houses are built using the latest technology and are much more energy efficient than anything built say 50 years ago. dbl pain windows, improved insulation, heating systems that require natural gas as apposed to burning oil are more efficient and cleaner burning. toilets that use less water to flush/power smart appliances/hot water tanks. and the people with a shitload of money are starting to use things like solar/wind generation to keep hydro use down, or heating/air con systems that are like reverse heat pumps and take advantage of temps beneath the soil, heat in winter, cool in summer. yeah the list goes on and on...you don't need an education in the construction industry (which i know little about) to figure this shit out. people tend to make broad generalizations about things like this. give your fucking head a shake, and you can pretend that the electric heat, single pain windows and drafty doors in the shithole you call home, is a much much better way to be...at least you can wallow in your own depression while the rest of the world moves forward. im with jay on this one, if you don't want the house torn down, you buy the fucking thing. why should the rest of the world stay unchanged and stagnating just cause YOU don't like it? id like to know what pubert does for a living, and why he wishes such horrid deaths to people he has never met....sounds fucking scary if you ask me. - Sun, 25 Dec 2005 11:09pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | In the words of Mike Holmes, it's gotta be up to code!!! - Mon, 26 Dec 2005 11:22am
jay brown User Info... | Phil there is a big difference in being up to code and what a lot of new homes are doing. Generally speaking being up to code is the bare minimum of what you are supposed to do. - Wed, 28 Dec 2005 8:32am
Brandon User Info... | "Phil there is a big difference in being up to code and what a lot of new homes are doing. Generally speaking being up to code is the bare minimum of what you are supposed to do." It is the minimum in all cases. No ones going to be pissed off if a contracter builds something that is better than the code book states it should be. Its just going to cost the contractor more money. - Wed, 28 Dec 2005 10:49am
_Griphin_ User Info... | This is true, but you always wanna build better then minimum code so that you don't have to go back to fix things you've already fixed. Yes, I've been watching too much of Holmes on Homes again. - Wed, 28 Dec 2005 1:08pm
Arkon User Info... | Remedy #1: The house could be saved by moving it to another location. Then, both the property owners and _Griphin_ would be happy. BTW (in case you didn't know), there's lots of stupid people in every class.....rich, middle & poor. - Sat, 31 Dec 2005 3:51pm
