Well. Chew on this. MLA's have given themselves benefits and salary increases of 15% or more. According to this article on canada.com. They "voted" on it.

So as if people weren't already disgusted. The politicians are all gonna burn in hell anyways.

I know, even those "honest" NDP'ers voted on it, of course when they were bitched at by the voters they changed their opinion over it, going to prove that the NDPers lie too much. This should be interesting what happens in the next week, cause the NDPers were caught cheating and now there trying to correct themselves. In any case, it's quite laughable. - Fri, 18 Nov 2005 11:27pm

Ya, and we all know how important their jobs are! Bastards, all of them. I think that to be a successful politician you have to be born greedy. - Sat, 19 Nov 2005 11:48pm

I don't see anything wrong with this pay increase at all. The best managers and executives deserve this kind of money. If the government did not pay well, then all we are going to get, are second rate middle management skilled people. Who would want all the major hassles and responsibilities that MLA's have, if they weren't being compensated for it. We are only talking about 3 or 4 million dollars. The teachers and the rest of the unions that are whining about this and using it as a platform for, " see we told you so" do not realise that for them to get 15% pay raises, It would take hundreds of millions. The arguments just don't fly. Remember, the world is broken down into the 20 - 80 rule. It is reality. The 20 have jobs which are waaaay more demanding and require far more skill than the average 8 hour per day employee is willing or able to provide. They deserve to be compensated! - Sun, 20 Nov 2005 3:49pm

Mike, I'm glad you raised the topic on the MLA's unanimous vote to give themselves a pay raise. Fortunately the bill that was so swiftly and secretively passed has been scrapped due to public outrage. Bjonze would criticize the teacher's federation for being one of many groups to cry foul over the proposed hike in pay the MLA's would have recieved and contradicts him/herself in the process. If a politicians job is demanding, than a teachers job is as demanding, if only belonging to a different job sector. If I had a child going through the public education system I would hope they would be taught by those that are skilled and highly qualified to do the job. Is this not why we have a budget in place? Do we not want to foster a healthy and proactive province? When I see cold, hard evidence of deficit reduction and a budget surplus, funding towards education, social programs, environmental issues, tax reductions for lower and middle income families, this will have been evidence of politicians doing their job. Until it is merited, I will be opposed to any type of pay raise the MLA's would grant themselves. ~ Jack - Tue, 22 Nov 2005 7:31pm

if you have ever been to the BC Parliament buildings and went into the parking lot for the people that work there, the cars they all drive are a bit different than the ones the teachers drive.
