Gleamer User Info... | Hey I've been wondering lately about drums and was also wondering if anyone could either explain how they work sonically or direct me to an article detailing it. I want to understand why and how drums frame a song and how it effects those listening to it. Because it seems that songs with drums framing it (in my opinion an example would be "It's saturday" by marcy playground) sound more normal upon listening than songs without drums ("live for today" by pearl jam). It seems to cause a certain level of confusion and discomfort, songs without drums that is. I can't explain it fully what I mean but if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. - Sun, 12 Jan 2003 11:51pm
Anonymous | gleamer.interesting question.drums as you say are the percussive walls that all other instruments go to in a song with odd little bits of instrumentation splashing over the sides if you will.i have thought about what you said about other songs without drums making you feel uneasy.i guess its almost like being outside and your not sure of whats out there what will be added?the drums provides the house.everyone usually feels safer in their house.modern drummer magazine might have something about what you ask.great question. - Mon, 13 Jan 2003 2:47am

Troutbreath | Ah yes, indeed it does Grasshopper, but it's WHEN the drum goes bang that is important. - Tue, 14 Jan 2003 12:33am
Anonymous | No. You really only need one throughout the whole song and it doesn't really matter where. - Tue, 14 Jan 2003 12:41am
