Nik Olaz User Info... | haw haw - Tue, 2 Aug 2005 12:32am
_Griphin_ User Info... | Oops, that'll teach the owners for letting it sit there and do nothing. - Tue, 2 Aug 2005 9:36am
evilkleg User Info... | Hmmmm.... Gigantic crappy old heritage building burns down. Can you say 'insurance money'? - Tue, 2 Aug 2005 2:41pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | I thought it was the building across the street from Swans, but yeah, they are building a condominium next to it, so hmmmm... makes ya wonder, don't it? In all honesty, I think the people who own the building HAVE TO fix it up and turn them into low income apartments. Like that will happen. - Tue, 2 Aug 2005 7:50pm
jay brown User Info... | what are you talking about Phil? What on earth does it make you wonder about? It was an abandoned building, probably someone squatting in it and someone probably dropped a smoke or something. I am willing to bet it was some drunk or junkie.... - Tue, 2 Aug 2005 8:07pm
Jesspsycho User Info... | It was a squat after all..... - Tue, 2 Aug 2005 9:12pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Why does the city let buildings like that just gather dust? But that's what probably happened. Still, why can't the city do something with those empty buildings? - Tue, 2 Aug 2005 10:05pm
jay brown User Info... | what could the city do, they dont own it. If someone wants to own a building and leave it empty that is entirely their right. Sure I have looked at that building a million times and thought about cool stuff I would do with it, but it doesnt belong to me, or the city. - Tue, 2 Aug 2005 10:21pm
Soap Dodger User Info... | The building is owned by an old rich lady that has no desire or need to sell it. Apparently it contains ghosts that she doesn't want to disturb. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was arson on the part of a greedy impatient developer. - Wed, 3 Aug 2005 8:36am
_Griphin_ User Info... | Exactly Jay! That's why the city should demand that they do something with the building, or at least try to buy them. But I wonder who the rich lady is? And actually, her sons own at least the building across the street from Swans. I dunno about the other buildings. - Wed, 3 Aug 2005 11:05am
jay brown User Info... | But once again phil, why on earth would the city demand she do something with the building, and for that matter how on earth could they, it is private property. as for buying the building I somehow sense the city planners probably didnt put that in the budget this year. as for low income housing, I doubt very much that anyone would want to put that right in the area where they are building all the upcale new condos for the rich folks. never mind all the tourists that come out of swans every day. I doubt very much they would want the projects across the street. I am sure they dream every day about burning streetlink to the ground......... - Wed, 3 Aug 2005 2:26pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | So how does she get away with letting property just sit there? I dunno, perhaps I welcome low income housing in a city with expensive rents. I don't know why she gets away with letting housing she (or her sons) owns, people like that should be forced to fix 'em. Why do the rich get away with it? - Wed, 3 Aug 2005 8:18pm
jay brown User Info... | well because they own it, thats why. Low income housing is fine and dandy but putting it in one of the highest tourist areas of the city is just plain bad planning all around. I just dont understand why anyone that owns property should have to do anything with it. If you paid for it, it's yours, if you dont want to do anything with it and you just want to pay taxes on a chunk of land, fine so be it. Oh by the way Phil, thanx for the c.d. it fucking rocks. - Wed, 3 Aug 2005 10:03pm
Tragedy User Info... | Actually she was trying to lease it out, but whoever took over would have to pay for their own rennovations which would cost a fortune. I'm betting it was arson. That, or "the man"... - Thu, 4 Aug 2005 11:56am
The One After Two User Info... | I'll bet crackhead started the fire. It would be far to sloppy of a crime for someone with a priciple intrest in the property to burn it down. Its possible, I'd just hope the business elite in this town would be smarter. - Thu, 4 Aug 2005 10:10pm
dumpstermesh User Info... | Paying to reno that place would not be worth it unless the new owner/leaser was running a brothel out of it. No one in their right mind would lease or try to develop it the way it stands. But if it were to be, say burned to the ground or something, maybe it might be a little economically fisable. Personally I think some unfortunate had an accident. Oopps. - Fri, 5 Aug 2005 1:47am
King Tarkus User Info... | Didn't that place already fry once before? - Mon, 8 Aug 2005 3:22pm
