dumpstermesh User Info... | Ok I know some of you read. Who here loves John Irving? Well he's reading from his newest book in Van Aug 11. It's only $12 to go but I'm curious if anyone on here would be into it. It's not something my man would be into (I guess none of my good buddies either). Check out ticketmasters website and plug in his name if your interested in the details. Drop me an email for further discussion. I just don't like navigating Van on my own... - Tue, 5 Jul 2005 9:15am
jay brown User Info... | that would actually be pretty cool. - Tue, 5 Jul 2005 10:04am
_Griphin_ User Info... | Who the heck is John Irving? BTW: Speaking of writers, I learned one of my favorite writers when I was growing up, Andre Norton, passed away March 17th 2005. She was 93, and still wrote up to her death. That's cool! http://www.andre-norton.org/anorton/andeath.html - Tue, 5 Jul 2005 12:25pm
dumpstermesh User Info... | Who the heck.... oh I'm going to have to smack you down _Griphin_. He wrote The world according to Garp, The Cider house rules, Hotel New Hampshire, A prayer for Owen Meany (the movie was called Simon Birch and they butchered the story for the movie), Setting free the bears, and some. The thing about writers is: they never retire. - Wed, 6 Jul 2005 8:48am
dumpstermesh User Info... | God damn it no one is into this!! God damn. I'm going to play video games. - Thu, 7 Jul 2005 4:02pm
lonemonk User Info... | All my favourite authors are spending a year dead for tax reasons.... - Fri, 8 Jul 2005 5:35am

_Griphin_ User Info... | Sorry, the name didn't sound familiar, though the first two movies do. And that wierd that I don't know who John Irving is, cause I should. - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 6:17am
dumpstermesh User Info... | Time to plan a trip to the library bud. - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 11:24am
alcoholly User Info... | I lent out my copy of Garp and never got it back. That book kicked ass!! - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 11:30am
dumpstermesh User Info... | Ya the only reason I still have a copy is cuz I rifle through the sale books at the libraries every chance I get. If they have a book I love (even if I've already read it) I'll drop the 20 cents or whatever. I've picked up soooo many great ones this way. I pretty much only buy new books through one of my book clubs. "Hi, my name is dumpstermesh and I'm a bookworm." - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 11:36am
_Griphin_ User Info... | Reading is bad for me at the moment, I've got a whole stack of books I need to read, but because my short term memory still needs work I can't remember what I read, so I've given up on reading until I can remember what I've read. I know, it's a lame excuse. - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 5:31pm
dumpstermesh User Info... | What if it was a story about beer, then would you remember it? - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 9:12pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | No, actually I wouldn't. This sucks too because I bought "New Spring" by Robert Jordan and I can't read it. :( - Fri, 15 Jul 2005 6:14am
lonemonk User Info... | At very least you can read LiveVic posts Eh... Don't give up on the book thing too quickly. It might be that your memory will improve if you continue to challenge it with reading books. Recovery was never going to be easy. Internet reading is not however an acceptable alternative; Its been shown recently that Internet browsing is comprised of heavy-duty/Highspeed browsing skills and very little actual reading. - Sat, 16 Jul 2005 11:41pm
lonemonk User Info... | BTW: I miss Douglas Adams and Hunter S Thompson like they were my own kin. These are the two that I can read endlessly and never tire of... - Sat, 16 Jul 2005 11:48pm
dumpstermesh User Info... | Oh _Griphin_ don't feel bad. I have been reading Robert Jordan for (oh dear god) 13 years and as much as I loved the series his new stuff has got to go. He tries to develop too many characters to maintain interest. Lets just say I used to be at the bookstore every few months saying "Is the new Robert Jordan in yet?" and now I haven't even finished reading "Crossroads of Twilight".(I have 6 of his books in hard cover because I couldn't wait for them to come out in paperback, one of them is even signed) I've just lost all interest in the fabulous world he created because apparently he would like us all to know every tiny detail of every inhabitant in that world . Now he's doing prequils!!! Give me a break. Rand has to have the last battle and end the series but he milks it!!! Way to ruin a good thing. Just pick up "The world according to Garp", you won't be able to put it down!!!! - Sat, 16 Jul 2005 11:58pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | I never was big into Jordan's series because he likes to take an action and spend up to 3 pages describing it. I though the prequil would somehow explain the series actually. Speaking of books, did anyone download the new Harry Potter book?!? - Sun, 17 Jul 2005 7:24am
Gman User Info... | "... 3 pages describing it..." Stay away from The Iliad and the Odyssey then, eh? - Wed, 20 Jul 2005 12:54pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Heh... actually it's an annoying way of describing things. - Wed, 20 Jul 2005 7:43pm
lonemonk User Info... | It depends on how complicated the things being described are... . - Thu, 21 Jul 2005 6:35am
dumpstermesh User Info... | I LOVED the Odyssey and can't wait for the lliad to show up in the cheap book rack at the library:) The number 1 of all writers is "show don't tell" - Thu, 21 Jul 2005 11:56am
Gman User Info... | Or you could buy it on CD... well, 11 CDs to be exact. zzzzzzzzwha? - Thu, 21 Jul 2005 1:08pm
dumpstermesh User Info... | The number rule of all writers is "show don't tell" is what I meant to say. Damn it. - Thu, 21 Jul 2005 8:55pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Good authors: Andre Norton (RIP), Piers Anthony, Margaret Weiss, Tracy Hickman (She seems to be a better author then Hickman). That's just for fantasy. - Sun, 24 Jul 2005 5:57pm
