I was curious to see this one because of the cast and director: Christopher Nolan (director of Memento), Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Michale Caine. The movie has also had pretty good reviews, billed as an intelligent super hero movie with more emphasis on story and character, and less emphasis on high-tech action. That would have been a good idea if the story and characters weren't boring and predictable.

Katie Holmes: a shitty, one dimensional actress playing a boring one dimensional character. I wanted to start throwing punches every time she was on screen.

Batman: pussified super hero that refuses to kill his enemies in favour of punching them out. I didn't see one drop of blood in the entirety of this two and a half hour movie.

Liam Neeson: He hates criminals so much that he's devised a diabolical plan to elliminate crime by murdering millions of innocent civilians. He later defeats Batman only to leaves him for dead - assuming the sharks with lasers will finish him off: "Now, if you'll excuse me I have a city to destroy". Lame.

The movie culminates in a thrilling fist fight between Batman and the Liam Neeson - on a train that must be stopped in order to save the city. Fuck off. - Thu, 23 Jun 2005 8:00am

you people who over analyze movies (or ANYTHING for that matter) ruin it for everyone. i should know, i do it about music alot.

this movie was fairly true to what batman IS. dark, comic-like etc. what the hell did you expect? a human interest story? this is based off a comic book, not some actual event. if you're some dullard who has no idea about the Batman mythos, you'll totally hate this movie. if you grew up a comic book nerd, like me, or just like good superhero films, batman begins is by far the best in the most recent years. - Thu, 23 Jun 2005 9:14am

I totally agree with Nik.

This movie kicked 10 kinds of ass. It followed the mythos perfectly. Dark, gritty, brooding, violent....yet it managed to maintain a 14A rating because there was no swearing or gore in it. But it still had some extreme psycological terror, especially in those scenes with the Scarecrow. And how could anyone NOT like the ending. I won't spoil it, but it made me want a sequel immediately. Best superhero film I've ever seen.

hands-down best batman of the series.
maggots coming out of scarecrows death sack mask?
MICHAEL CAINE?
the best batmobile design ever (loosely based on frank millers!)?
or how about the fact that batman doesn't just finish up with the bad guys
he throws their heads into metal stair-cases?

it's dark, it has the dialogue to make up for the past 3 films. it doesn't fuck with any of the character development and it has gary fucking oldman as the commish. i can't believe how sweet this movie is and if you missed the points you just shouldn't review it, because you need to read into it a little more. - Thu, 23 Jun 2005 10:35am

not enough 'splosions for Soap Dodger. You're the reason the last 4 Batman movies sucked. - Thu, 23 Jun 2005 11:45am

Best part about the movie is it is totally unaffiliated with the previous movies. The acting was good, Gotham City made Tim Burton's version look like lego land, and the story was very well done. not many films can capture the fundamentals of a comic book while usimng story techniques taken from classic kung fu movies and even use zombie-esque effects. Plus the scarecrow was a great villain.

Best Episode Ever. - Thu, 23 Jun 2005 1:09pm

This movie was magical. Christian Bale rules as Batman AND Bruce Wayne. Everything cool has already been said. I can't wait for more. - Thu, 23 Jun 2005 1:11pm

Amen Nik.

Movie so good, I squealed like a school girl through most of it.

At least SD, you'll be happy to hear Katie Holmes is not signed on for the sequel.
I fucking loved watching the stage be set for all the characters and other movies.
Gordon was good fucking times.

NO COMPLAINTS from this chick.

I'm so going again. - Thu, 23 Jun 2005 2:11pm

I wanted to like this movie, I just don't think it did anything that new or interesting as a comic book movie, or even a Batman movie (I'm not sticking up for the past Batman movies - I only liked the first of them).

It had some good ideas and actors, but overall didn't leave much of an impression and had a few scenes that really annoyed me. - Thu, 23 Jun 2005 2:19pm

Good call, Soap Dodger.
I'm still trying to find a reason why I fell asleep at several points during this movie. I don't really feel like spending another $10 to try to convince myself that it's a better movie than what I give it credit for. I'll just stand by my initial reaction and say "meh, it wasn't anything special" - Thu, 23 Jun 2005 4:45pm

This is the movie that Batman was supposed to be in 89. I liked Tim Burton's version back then but this makes it look like a pile of puke.

I too left wanting an immediate sequel. - Sat, 25 Jun 2005 6:37am

The only two things that really got to me was Katie Holmes and that stupid paint-shaker style of directing fight scenes. The idea of trying to get teh viewer inside the fight is great and all, but if you can't figure out what the hell is goin' on, what's the point. It made me feel like I was watching the action sequences in the Bourne Supremecy.

Cillian Murphy was awesome as the scarecrow. I was so excited to see what he was going to do with the character and he passed my expectations completely. Actually, that goes with most of the cast. - Mon, 27 Jun 2005 5:23pm

worst Batman movie to date (Clooney sucked i know, but at least his suit looked cool). Knowing about the Batman mythos or being a HUGE nerd (which I am) won't make me enjoy this trite. Katie Holmes should only do porn, Christian Bale, (ok it prolly wasnt his fault), Morgan Freeman? "Ok Robin Hood, I mean Dick, I mean Bruce. I"m with the president stop the H-bomb," Freeman? Get that painted man off my screen! He's hear to kill the black magic! I mean fuck off, i wanna SEE batman kick some ass, not just wonder if he's kicking ass from the shadows. To top it off, what a shitty looking helmet! he looked like koala man in that shit (hwisack). and how many people find out hes the guy in this movie? and this early in his career? fuck off hollywood, quit shitting in my mouth. If you wanna make caped crusader films do it, but this, this is shitting in my mouth. I've seen better film on my teeth. For lack of a better phrase; fuck this movie and everyone in it.

i think a boxing movie should made starring batman, crusty the clown and spock. spock is champion and batman is the underdog who finally convinces crusty to be his trainer. batman makes it to the championship fight and is kicking spock's ass, but when he inadvertantly opens one of his wings and cuts one of spock's ears off with it, he is disqualified and tagged a cheater. batman gets a tattoo on his eye to make him look tough, but no-one can see it because of his mask. he starts drinking, gets fat, has to have his suit altered and never goes out anymore. crusty "accidentally" snorts some heroin outside the viper room and dies. spock's equilibrium gets thrown off by the loss of his ear and statrs getting ko'd heavy. he becomes a game show host, but can never remember the rules so he quits and lands a job as a monday night football commentator. awesome. - Tue, 28 Jun 2005 10:41am

I really liked this movie but there are a few plot holes that bothered me. After all his training on top of the mountain, Bruce Wayne is asked to chop that guy's head off but he won't do it because he's not an assassin. Then he kicks the shit out of all the ninjas and blows the hell out of the dojo. WTF?!! He won't kill a criminal which he claims to hate, but doesn't have a problem killing everyone in the building (including said criminal). Weren't these people his friends and mentors for all of the previous months of training? It doesn't make sense.
And the stolen microwave emitter is supposed to vaporize an ememy's water supply right? Now the human body is composed of at least 70 percent water so isn't it right to assume that this weapon would also vaporize every person within the blast radius?
Oh, and after Katie Holmes is exposed to the hallucinogenic fear toxin, Batman 'saves' her by getting involved in a car chase across the rooftops of Gotham in a giant Batmobile tank. Most average people would be terrified if that happened to them and Katie had just been given a fear toxin! Maybe not the best idea. Batman should have driven briskly in a white Toyota Tercel to the Batcave. The cops would have never even noticed them!
But I am nitpicking. Still loved the movie and can't wait for the sequel. - Tue, 28 Jun 2005 12:48pm

Christ Fableway, you call yourself a batman nerd but can't put together the corellations between this movie and Batman: Year One or the set ups for Dark Knight Returns?

I guess I should have stopped reading when you said Clooney's suit looked cool. - Tue, 28 Jun 2005 8:58pm
