Albert Einstein arrives at a dinner party. He introduces himself to the first person he sees and asks, "What's your IQ?"

The man answers, "241."

"That is wonderful!" says Albert. "We will talk about the Grand Unification Theory and the mysteries of the universe. We will have much to discuss!"

Next, Albert introduces himself to a woman and asks, "What's your IQ?"

The lady answers, "144."

"That is great!" responds Albert. "We can discuss politics and current affairs. We will have much to discuss!"

Albert goes to another person and asks, "What's your IQ?"

The man answers, "51."

Albert's face lights up as he exclaims, "So you're the one who rides the Harley parked out front!" - Thu, 28 Apr 2005 7:16pm

I think this thread could be called 'knowing how to laugh at yourself.'

Yeah, a few of us can (or could at one time) afford them. Yeah inheritances! Plus they finance any old loser at Drane's.

Getting one built for you? I'm jealous. But I'm happy with mine. He was built with a big heart and along with a few additions to make him meaner, I have a friend for life. A really loud, obnoxious, friend . . . you all know the type. But saved my life once or twice already. - Mon, 2 May 2005 11:18am

It was purely a monetary thing. Hawgs so expensive now that your can get 2 Hondas for the same price. (Even with the mods they get for them)

I don't think the BC police forces are buying BMWs anymore, but I could easily be wrong. Still a lot of them out there though, which is probably saying something.

I read sonny bargers most recent autobiography, and I was shocked to hear him say that if the Angels had been 'smart' (Ya, I know...) they would have switched to Jap bikes 30 years ago. If you don't believe me, I'll dig up the quote... - Wed, 4 May 2005 9:55pm

bwahahah ya i read Sonny Bargers book too, I thought that comment was hilarious, fuck a lot of bikers must of been pissed at him over that one. Yup old Harleys were pretty maintenance intensive but then again so were old english bikes. That doesnt matter if you like the bike though.... New harleys arent like that at all though, they are just as reliable as a japanese bike now but then again the new ones tend to be lacking a lot of the old style as well... they do have those new springer soft tails that aint half bad..six of one a half a dozen of another, what do you want more a bike with no style you can ride every day. Or a really cool bike you have to work on every once in a while. Personally I will take the cool bike every time. Just ask any old vespa owner if they would trade it for a new one.... I am willing to bet almost every single one of them would keep their old scooters that they have to work on all the time. - Fri, 6 May 2005 9:27am

Actually I know a few people who bought brand new Harleys , and one of my good friends ( video Eric ) is a ticketed motorcycle mechanic and presently working in that industry.. and they both can attest the new Harley's still do breakdown, just not as much. Max got tired of it after owning what, like 5 Harleys incl a brand new one, and went with a new Yamaha V-Max, and hasnt had to fix it ever, its a daily ride, he only uses his car if he has to.

I like Harley,, but its a moneypit no matter how ya look at it.

I really do have a dead 94 Fatty here. Makes a nice seat. heheh.. ( its just a clutch cable needs fixin actually )

Jay: Ya fuck, what a comment from the retired angel all-father eh? I'm sure the core of the great unwashed were laughing their asses off on that one. (While they're mammas were taking turns reading it to them) If he wasn't sonny barger they would have stomped him for even saying that.

I'm glad to see the HDMC company doing so well in recent years. I'm no Yank but its good to see things still manufactured in north america.

What you said about the british bikes is worse than you let on. The limeys have a VERY strange idea about how a motorcycle should work (or most frequently, not work). For 60 years they assumed that Brit people would continue to purchase motorcycles without ever asking themselves if there was another way. There was another way; buy reliable and WAY more powerful Jap bikes. English motorcycle industry collapsed completely and almost over-night.

In 1969-1971, Hunter Thompson was continuously ridiculed by Oakland boys for riding a BSA chopper; Thats funny as hell.

Its not the same 'class' as we're talking about here, but all this talk of bikes makes me want to ressurect my 1976 Yamaha GT80. My childhood would not have been the same without it.

DT80?!? How did it run Inhalien?!? Here's a scary thought, I'm thinking about buying a scooter, I keep seeing an ad in Monday magazine, but I cannot remember what the name of the scooter is. And no, I don't plan to install half a million headlights onto it like they do in Quadrophenia, or become a MOD. ;) - Sat, 7 May 2005 8:47am

It ran great but it was heavy, even for a little bike. When I bought it, the bike was stripped of all street-legal items like light, battery, turn signals. Had lots o fun on the logging roads at Cowichan Lake with it. - Mon, 9 May 2005 8:27am

Yep, I took off all my street-legal stuff too. Sounds like the DT was almost identical to GT. (Heavy little sucka)

I live in Sooke Jay. You just gave me a great idea. Think I'll terrorize the neighbourhood a bit now. You still ocassionally see some kid driving 'downtown' on a minibike.

Not much good around these parts, but the only thing close to being as much fun as a bike was a snowmobile. Between the two, you get to ride all year round. I did drive the bike in the snow too, but in new brunswick you get a little too much of the stuff.
