Maxwell User Info... | "raw very raw" like sounding shitty? go rent an all in one system, there is aleast 100 recording studios n this city, all depends on what you wanna spend. $10 an hour to $100 - Tue, 26 Apr 2005 11:36am
wanless User Info... | no no no...... Raw as sounding real, not over produced. The sound recorded is basically the sound we make, no fancy studio tricks. Back to the basics - Thu, 28 Apr 2005 3:34pm
brad User Info... | Call Scott Henderson....(SOS) or Gary Brainless (Ratsnest)...either one has recorded half the bands in this town since your parents were in elementry school. both know their gear, are great people and work for totally reasonable rates..tell them what your budget is and i'm sure you'll leave and come in under it. Just remember you get what you pay for..show up prepared and know your shit. Ask to hear some recent projects they've done, and ask how much that person paid for what you hear. Bring them some samples of other recordings you have from fav bands etc. to give them an idea of the sound your going for. Or just put a ghetto blaster in the corner and do it total DIY style...Now THATS punk. - Thu, 28 Apr 2005 9:14pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Of course I'm gonna say Garry Brainless at Rats Nest studios only cause he's been recording bands for over 20 years and he's still cheap ($20 per hour I think). He usually does a basic recording then overdubs to correct any errors I think. It's been a while since I hung around the studios, but he still knows what he's doing. (eg. he recorded the new Lid tracks) - Fri, 29 Apr 2005 10:15am
lonemonk User Info... | Scott Henderson - SOS. Zippgunn, on this forum. - Sat, 30 Apr 2005 1:26am
Zippgunn User Info... | The key to getting a real good "raw" recording is the performance. If your band isn't overly complex you should be able to do a lot of the recording right off the floor, reserving the overdubs for stuff like lead vocals and the odd guitar solo etc. Practice until you knoew every part in your sleep, especially the stuff that you don't think about much, like the backup vocals (which routinely consume fully a quarter of a bands studio time!!)Not only will the band sound better it's a helluva lot cheaper. Getting into the tracking rat race is a great way to eat up enormous amounts of time and money and guarantee a wooden sounding performance. Oddly enough most of the people that insist on recording this way play metal. Hmmm. - Sun, 1 May 2005 11:23am
