Thought these were kind of interesting:

I personally had a bad experience years back when Martin (aka Molin) ordered a drum bracket, and tried to charge me over $100 for it. I got the same part at Long and McQuade for about $10. - Fri, 15 Apr 2005 12:36pm

I've had my run-ins over there, but always been able to sort it out to my satisfaction. Don't go in there much in recent years; Seems like eveything they sell costs exactly $1000.00, or some multiple thereof.

Its always seemed pretty seedy in there. - Fri, 15 Apr 2005 1:18pm

well, if Karma is real, they have definitely had their fill of it already. i have heard that their computer system crashed on two separate occasions and i guess they had no backups nor hard copies ... years ago i was making payments on an acoustic guitar and about 2 payments in, they stopped. still have the guitar, no phone calls ever and apparently they lost all their records on who had what, etc. - Fri, 15 Apr 2005 1:42pm

well, in his defense it IZ an independently run business, so it's sink-or swim for them, hence the "get what they can" pricing. Martin has been doin' it for 20+ years so there's always gonna be good stories/bad stories to tell. I agree about the $1000 thing, that's funny! ...

Anyhow, he's a pretty fair guy, just know what things are worth before stepping in the door, believe me ( in his head ) he does too! He has some real hard to find obscure stuff too hiding away in there, so it's always worth a look!

At least in that second complaint listing they ( TT )resolved it, and the original poster had the class to report the resolution. Good things! - Fri, 15 Apr 2005 3:07pm

hey i bought my first guitar there like 18 years ago... and martin was in the biz even before that. Regardless of bad reviews he's obveously found some sort of niche to sell his products. The complaint on there is justifiable in that the person should've, and did, get their money back. But being an idependant business that shafted the store... they're out 3000 and stuck with a fucking p.o.s.... i work at an independantly owned store and we def. do not give refunds on anything... maybe that person and people in the future should check out the return policies before making a big purchase... so that makes me think, is it really the store "screwing you over" or is it just your excellent nack of not observing the 'minor' details... either way i'd still and will support them, just cause L&M are gettin' to be big and scary... that's another thing that gets me. L&M, i remember that going to a music store and fartin' around on guitars and whatever and that would be kool, but now its like your either there to buy or rent or get the shit outta here... doesn't feel the same i dont think... anyways enough rambling i've wasted enough time at work writing this :P - Sat, 16 Apr 2005 12:16pm

L&M have never been that way with me, at least not in remotely recent memory anyway. They might not be too into it with the 13 year old kids want to mess around with $3000 guitars they have zero intent on purchasing but other than those obvious cases the vast majority of the folks there are totally cool.

I'm not speaking for L&M as a big company of course, just the local staff who are pretty much all local musicians and generally very helpful.

hey J just so you know 30 day trial in the buisness means you can return it within the 30 days, full refund. The other complaint is very valid. Martin isnt a dealer for most things yet he leads people into believing he can get them what they want. Example Peavey amps, he used to be the dealer but now he isnt. I know because I ordered a 5150 footswitch off him, after 3 months I called Peavey to see if he had even placed my order. They told me that he wasnt even a dealer, and that I should order through the dealer in POCO.

This may look like I am slagging the competion, but I am just expressing the problems I personally have encountered with him. There are lots of other good music stores in this town aswell, like gordies and guitars plus.

The funny thing about those complaints posts is that when you punch in TEMPO TREND into google, they are the first things to come up. - Sat, 16 Apr 2005 2:28pm

Fucking Tempo Trend....I use to live very close to that fucking pile of shit place. My friend had brought a practice amp in there to sell on consignment...and when he went back over to check things out with it a month or so later he found that they didn't even have it in the actual shop...they had it upstairs and were just using the amp for lessons. Real stand up guys they are. - Sat, 16 Apr 2005 2:32pm

I bought one of my guitars there in 1998. It was a peavy predator, you know, one of those ones with the floating bridges, all shiny and blue. I believe I paid about $300 for it, maybe a bit more.

ANyway, I had to bring it back at least 4 times to get the bridge set up again and again, until finally the bolts holding it down just snapped. So last year I took it to L&M and the tech guy Scott repaired it for me; now it's my fav guitar to use for gigging due to functionaity, etc. Make of that what you will. - Tue, 19 Apr 2005 2:02pm

"i rented a violin from there years and years ago and never gave it back."

Hahahaha.

I rented a drum set from there when I just started drumming. It was a piece of crap and when I asked for help tuning, they said my drum teacher should've taught me how and never did help. Hrm. - Tue, 19 Apr 2005 4:29pm

I think I remember tempo being called Scotts music at one time?

But I may be fucking wrong, wrong, wrong !

It was up on Quadra I think ? I had a great guitar teacher who worked out of there.

I'll give them A-1 for their teachers back then !

They've been fair to me in my recent dealings for my kids rentals and things .

Yours truly

I was making payments on a drum kit for my daughter for christmas and when I went to make the last payment and pick it up they couldn't find it, turns out they sold the fucking thing twice. They replaced it, but it was still pretty shady if you ask me. I won't go there again. - Mon, 25 Apr 2005 10:11pm
