Island Music Awards User Info... | 4th Annual Music Awards Confirms Performers The 4th annual installment of Vancouver Island’s version of the Juno Awards has confirmed twelve nominated performers for the May 14 gala evening at Central Bar and Grill on View Street. The performers include: Artist of the Year nominees Barley Wik, Killing Flaw, Anne Schaefer, Moneyshot, and fourteen year-old Christine Evans. Also performing is Album of the Year nominee Tom Lang, Female Songwriter nominee Hayley Sales (from Qualicum Beach), Male Vocalist nominees Devil You Don’t (Mike Luno) and Another Day Lived (Steve Fissel), Live Performance nominees The Vendors, and Youth Artist nominees fifteen year-old Amanda Maillot and her twelve year-old sister Alexandria Maillot (from Parksville). The ceremony will be hosted by Vince Ditrich of veteran Canadian band Spirit of the West and will feature the presentation of eleven awards by local personalities. New to the event this year, a documentary film on the Vancouver Island music scene will be debuted intermittently throughout the night, including a memorial feature on local musicians who have passed on over the past few years. Tickets for the 4th Annual Island Music Awards are now available in advance for $12 at A & B Sound on Yates Street, or there may be tickets remaining at the door for $15 on May 14. In the first three years of this event, hosts and speakers have included former Much Music personality Terry David Mulligan, Irish Rover Will Millar, and Maple Blues Guitarist of the Year David Gogo. Artist of the Year recipients in the first three years were: The Special Guests (now Jets Overhead) in 2002, Armchair Cynics in 2003, and Matthew James in 2004.
