Ryan So here's my take on this. Go out of town to play and play your home town only once a month. Too many bands out play themselves and suffocate other local bands looking to get a good show once in a while. I hate to point fingers and I know the only reason moneyshot gets the amount of shows they do is that they put in time with the scene, but beat it and let other bands play. You guys play to much let some younger bands play for once. - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 1:31pm
Ooga Booga I sort of agree, but not for the same reasons. I don't beleive a band should play more then one bar show and one all ages show a month in Vic. If you play too much, you wear out your draw and therefor, don't make as much money for the venue. The scene all comes down to making money for the venues/promoters. Bar owners are just happy to have a band that draws and makes them money. Of course, it is an added bonus if the band is good! Remember that Clubs are selling booze, not music! The music just happens to be in the same location.

I don't think moneyshot plays too much at all. They play about one club and one AA show per month. It's not like moneyshot hasn't work their asses off to get to where they are. A good name and a following doesn't just come over night. You have to work for it. - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 1:42pm
Anonymous I hear what you're saying, but you're completely off about bands that play a lot suffocating other bands. I know one band in particular (which I won't mention in this post because its not important which band it it) that gets offered 8-9 shows a month at least, and the majority of these show offers are from newer bands around town emailing and asking for a headliner because they want to book a show at a bar and the bar won't let them play unless there's another band that done the work and proven themselves in the past (aka they need a band like Moneyshot). More established bands can help newer bands get acquainted with the bar staff/manager and that helps newer bands get more gigs. got it? stop whining. shows aren't served on a silver platter go the fuck out there and get them yourself. - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 3:47pm

I've seen alot of bands burn out from playing too many shows in Vic. A new band should do so for the first few months to get the experience (ie. Gallows End who are being guided by Aaron the veteran) and then after that run take a few more months in the spot and hone what they have combined with their new wisdom.
But when bands play too much all the time, people get burnt from seeing them and the band gets bored. Then before you know it you have a break up.
Ever notice ML7 barely ever playing in Vic? It's for a reason.
Moneyshot plays alot, but they continue to draw the killer crowds. Although I wouldn't say they play too much. - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 4:51pm
Adrenaline Animal We've played 4 shows in the last 6 months in victoria. From now on well cut it back to once a year. - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 4:58pm
Eric Man this scene makes me sick sometimes, as soon as one of the kick ass bands from this town start to make it everyone turns on them, fuck just read all the HHH bashing posts. We all talk about unity in the scene, I just don't see it. I think Mneyshot should play more in victoria!! - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 5:04pm
Leeroy Stagger yeah, playing your hometown is good for making some coin to play on the road, we try to play once a month in vic, van and nanaimo but playing in town your guaranteed some cash wich is nice... - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 5:18pm
Anonymous hhh gets bashed cuz they suck.

boo emo - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 5:49pm
Anon386 Its funny that Moneyshot was mentioned for playing too much!! Ha ha, as AA said they have only played 4 shows in 6 months. Live performances in bars is %100 business on the weekends. There are lots of opportunities in Vic for newer bands but of course not on the prime evenings unless you hook up with some other trusted bands. What a silly complaint to suggest some bands are supposedly hogging the prime spots. It takes time and a track record. Pretty simple really, have a few shows on oddball nights to show that you can perform and at least draw a few people. No club expects a big turnout on these nights so it won't hurt your reputation. The secret society of succesful gigging bands and club owners might then just let you in on the scene! - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 6:36pm
Ryan Iwasn't whining or turning on anyone. I was just making a point. - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 6:38pm

Gallows End have played 2 shows in Victoria since we started playing shows and now youre complaining its too much. Is this because of the surprises I leave behind your amp? You just wait until we have our music piped through every Mcdonalds, Starbucks and elevator in the city!!!! Thats it Mr Hell im protesting on behalf of Amnesty Intl at your next show for your use of cruel and unusual punishment (your music) on human life. Well unless I get in free. haha - Sat, 28 Dec 2002 6:50pm
Anonymous moneyshot is crap, I wish they wouldn't play any shows regardless of how good they are. - Sun, 29 Dec 2002 1:50pm

You know how to go about it because you are elderly in music.
And I'll bend Amnesty Intnl. over and give them what for. - Sun, 29 Dec 2002 5:08pm

A.W.T. and Gallows End, jan.17th in van at the Astoria. See if you play enough in your hometown then other people notice you and you get to go play other cities. Neat concept huh. - Sun, 29 Dec 2002 6:48pm

April, the Hoosegow and Edison, vic, van, then all the way down the coast through california to tijuana. Then back up through arizona ending the tour in las vegas then coming home. Good thing we all were in other bands that played lots of shows here so we could get to know each other and start up a band of our own. - Sun, 29 Dec 2002 6:49pm
today i have enjoyed seeing the arm chair cinics and the buttless chaps...and others........there is always room for others...i like what i see and hear musically creatively here.....its always good to try and stay positive thru politics and things....staying active..ie busking /open mics..charity gigs things like this....can quickly turn into better things...i think we are all dealing with crabs in a bucket in this world of music....hang in...sing your songs....good people exist.. - Sun, 29 Dec 2002 8:47pm
Grundy I say too much Armchair cynics in the scene, I see too many AC posters. AC blows. - Sun, 29 Dec 2002 10:01pm

Oh, you know Aaron Clark too, hunh? - Sun, 29 Dec 2002 10:56pm
Kenn Its okay you hate my band Armchair, theres enough listeners for everyone. When you see our posters realize that we only play once a month( Decembers an exception) but advertise in advance giving the impression of constant playing. As well we dont take posters down which again gives the impression of constantly playing. Its a hard call when you realize there are alot of people to expose your music to, yet burning out an audience sucks. Obviously we play in different cities, but we personally put alot of posters up Maybe too many? - Mon, 30 Dec 2002 12:29am

If the posters are pissing people off, you are among the few bands who do a good job postering in Victoria.
Always good to do the same areas and take down the old ones too. - Mon, 30 Dec 2002 12:43am
