FiSM2 User Info... | you need ambition, a good ear and a good personality (& some good luck). the trick is to get in the door of a successsful studio. some of my best friends who are now top notch engineers and producers got started by offering to clean up and fetch tea & coffee at studios for a minimal salary (thus the name "tea boy"). then they slowly climbed the ladder up to the top. takes a while, but you absolutely learn everything with "hands on" experience. - Tue, 4 Jan 2005 9:43am
the pine tree savage User Info... | Tea boy hey, sounds fun, I got a coffee maker in my studio, it works great, and I dont have to pay it anything. I like to think my skillz in a recording studio are far more advanced than getting tea. Maybe I am wrong, and will wind up washing dishes when I am 60, but for now, I am teaching myself, and am producing my own stuff either way thanx for the tip. I have been given the same advice, but I am looking into taking the courses in the future just so I can get up to my neck in financial debt you know its what everyone else is doing, may as well follow.....yeah right, buy the gear learn how to use it, and go independant, until someone takes notice to the years of hard work you have dedicated to. Or die trying..... but never give up. Hmmmmm You are your greatest asset There is nothing you cant do. No-one can stop you from dreaming. Only you can stop them coming true. Your achievements are determined by the desire that you possess. Believe who you are Believe in what you do. Its not a quirke of fate. Its strictly up to you. Zippgunn User Info... | Recording courses are one of the biggest scams in the entertainment industry. Without good ears (that is, the ability to LISTEN to sounds and figure out what they are doing and how they interact with other sounds) all the courses in the world will do you no good. I took one a hundred years ago and all it did was teach me how to edit 1/4" tape; hardly a useful skill nowadays. Latch on to a busy studio and make yourself available for free or cheap; a month spent there is worth a year anywhere else, believe me. - Wed, 5 Jan 2005 1:12pm
Troutbreath User Info... | Believe this man, he knows of what he speaks. I keep my Art School diploma over by the Coffee Urn. The "tea-boy" is very impressed. - Wed, 5 Jan 2005 1:56pm
