Hey I read the paper today and there was an article about this young guy that was killed in a car accident in oak bay. The article mentioned that him and the driver played in a band together, just wondering if anyone knew which band it was?...The accident sounded pretty fucking brutal for the kid and it just stuck in my head. - Fri, 17 Dec 2004 5:13pm

wow, I can't even imagine how that kid feels seeing his friend dead. Couldn't even IMAGINE. Definite tragedy. I totally aggree with the article, why wasn't the end of the rail bent into a curve instead of a spear? - Fri, 17 Dec 2004 11:55pm

Not to downplayit but the wolf is right. I used to speed like crazy, but all I had was my parent's Volvo. Sadly, the amount of speed needed to impale a 1 inch metal rod all the way through a car is WAY beyond what he should've been driving.Specially on beach drive ?!? His parent's fault? well, partially.Still, any loss of young life is tragic and if anyone learns from this then at least someone's tragedy will be someone else's lesson! RIP - Tue, 21 Dec 2004 5:34pm

"Sadly, the amount of speed needed to impale a 1 inch metal rod all the way through a car is WAY beyond what he should've been driving"

not really true. a car traveling at 50kph can create g forces up to 30g's on impact.
also there isn't much to the front end of a Honda crx. I’m sure the pole didn't pass though the engine leave only the nose piece made plastic and radiator made from brass and a tin frame full of holes, and the fire wall made from sheet metal.
Imagine swinging and hitting that car with a pick axe. you would puncture it with ease. once it's punctured there nothing stopping the round tube rail from sliding though. Especially if it’s being forced by a 2000 pound car, traveling at speed

Most likely they were goofing off and somehow drove off the road. But they didn’t have to be going extremely fast to cause death.

When I was their age I was driving my car and took my eyes of the road for a minute and drove into a steel gate post a 30kph, it was standing vertical but I still destroyed the nose piece, fender, and hood . it took us over an hour to get loose from that pole(we were by our selves in the middle of nowhere) - Tue, 21 Dec 2004 6:52pm

everyone keeps saying that kids will learn, but there have been so many teenagers that have died in the last 2 years from excessive speed and drinking... - Tue, 21 Dec 2004 6:57pm

well actually they werent drinking and apparently they werent excessively speeding either. Neither of those have to be a factor, how about just the simple fact that a 16 or 17 year old has only been driving for a year or two and still isnt a great driver. Why is it their parents fault by the way? I didnt understand that part at all. - Tue, 21 Dec 2004 10:13pm
