laprider User Info... | well call it sour grapes because after doing it two years I didn't get the contract this year....what is up with the new VI, this years show is being put on by a Vancouver event promoter who without bids is now using Vancouver stage, sound and lights...and there are no Island bands playing. Again could be sour grapes but seems to me like a lot of money and band exposure leaving VI?! - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 12:12pm
lonemonk User Info... | Like all other media outfits, VI (read Chum/City) have reached a point were they don't need grassroots support. I've been worried about this outfit ever since they arrived. If anything they will be successful at brining big-city ideals to this not-so-big town. New VI looks all 'local' and caring on the outside, but Moses Znaimer is the the bastard twin of Ted Turner when it comes down to it. - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 1:42pm
Jesse The Malcontent User Info... | Well I'm not sure anybody even watches it. Hmmm - Maybe watch 'The New Canoe' and chase that with an episode of 'Beastmaster'. Ouch. I'd have to say their locally based programming was mediocre at best but something is better than nothing. No more Enviromental, VI land Voices, VI Parade, Island Underground, Right On, etc. all slashed. Though I wasn't a big fan of most of these shows - They were locally shot and produced and did the job of carrying out what they said they would do to get their broadcasting license in the first place. All of that has changed drastically in a very short time. But on a positive note with the tremendous amount of layoffs I can wonder the streets of victoria and not have a camera man or woman harass me with dumb quiestions. For a while they were more annoying than the panhandlers. - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 1:54pm
Anonymous User Info... | THE NEW VI SUCKS! They've really gone down hill since they fired lots of the original staff & cool hosts like Jake, etc. It used to have character and now it's gone generic. And don't get me started on Hudson Mack! Dull....ugly.....boring....suspenders....need I say more? WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT THE NEW VI HAS BECOME! - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 1:54pm
Jesse The Malcontent User Info... | I can think of a couple of ways they can redeem themselves and get a bit more viewers. - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 2:40pm
Anonymous User Info... | I heard a story once about Hudson Mack being on acid at a party back in his college days and throwing records at a wall to see if they would stick. Hudson Mack is the most punk rock man in TV Journalism today. - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 8:14pm
Spinvis User Info... | What the?? I love Hudson Mack, he should have stayed with CH because I think the NEW VI isn't very good.... i miss him. - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 10:07pm
ENIGMATICA ENTERTAINMENT User Info... | TV Programming aside, New VI did a ton more in the first two years they were open supporting local community events that had been totally ignored by CHEK or CH for decades. I remember the days if you received ANY exposure by CHEK it was such a big deal. They rarely covered anything people on this web site would be remotely interested in or things for people that don't like mainstream pop rock, classical, country or whatever. New VI did for sure. I liked what the New VI tried to do with their different programming at first. Perhaps they cut it because of just wanting more money with less effort straight-up however, it could have also been because they were having a lot of trouble getting ratings and advertisers with doing something that wasn't the status quo. That totally sucks. I liked the staff they had there. It was cool having younger people in the station. And yes, they made mistakes but at least they were trying to do something cool. It's funny how so many people bitched about how the news with the New VI was done before saying how many mistakes they made on air etc. And then when they get Hudson Mack that reads the news with very few errors if any, people are quick to diss him also. - Thu, 2 Dec 2004 10:51pm
The One After Two User Info... | The News on the New VI is WAY better since Hudson joined up. Now if they could drop the Beastmasters, Relic Hunters and Pacific Blues, I will start watching. If you want a music show on the New VI, one of you artistic types should put one together, bug the local rock businesses for some money and pitch it to the New VI. If you can sell it, they will air it. - Fri, 3 Dec 2004 12:42am
* User Info... | What's the matter with you all? Hudson makes me gag. He's so gross! I agree with "Anonymous". - Fri, 3 Dec 2004 1:10am
Troutbreath User Info... | I just wish they'd stop calling it "VILand", sounds like an attraction located somewhere between "Miniature World" and "The Undersea garden". - Fri, 3 Dec 2004 1:43am
NUVO WAVO User Info... | we played V.I.`s morning show which was great for our holloween gig at Central, totally promoed us, as far as Hudson goes have you seen the cardboard cutout they replaced him with? Ed somebody looks like a turtle, remember this is Victoria! Joe public want to see a news guy sitting behind a desk not walking around with a clip board like a cable program. - Fri, 3 Dec 2004 6:05am
mica User Info... | "VILand" sounds like the nickname of some little known surf break. - Fri, 3 Dec 2004 9:16am
I|I User Info... | You all should just stop watching TV. - Fri, 3 Dec 2004 9:33am
Little Red Riding Hood User Info... | My whole thing about the expression "VILand"... is that VI stands for Vancouver Island right? According to them this is Vancouver Island Land. As for the new years show, I totally agree with steve that it's total BS that they are doing this show without supporting local businesses and talent. I'd be way more interested to watch the show (if I'm not out partying) if it were bands playing that I know- or at least know of... I dunno, that's just my 2 cents - Fri, 3 Dec 2004 10:09am
troutbreath User Info... | Just out of curiosity I phoned the "NEW VI" and asked about this show. It's being put together in Vancouver at their sister station CityTV. The woman in charge is Julia Caslin and her number is 604-876-1344. - Fri, 3 Dec 2004 11:08am
Masturbating The War God User Info... | Spinvis, HM and that other chick with the blond hair are traitors!! VI news is so shitty. - Fri, 3 Dec 2004 3:03pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Odd, aren't The New VI breaking their contract? - Sat, 4 Dec 2004 2:21pm
lonemonk User Info... | CityTV is not the sister station Trout, CityTV/Chum is the Mothership. With Toronto of course being the center of creation. Now that Victoria is under the media thumb, there's no need to dabble in the piss-ass Victoria local scene. New VI will be a force behind someone putting up a bridge to the mainland so we can all be properly urbanized baby! "Ahhhhh..." says Hudson Mack. "Finally I feel like I'm home. Only 20 minutes to Vancouver. What a terrible time I spent on that fucking Rock" - Sat, 4 Dec 2004 2:51pm
Troutbreath User Info... | lonemonk, just to clarify, Sister station is the way the receptionist I talked with referred to CityTV in Vancouver. I'm just an igerant islander so what do I know (yes, I know ignorant is spelt wrong don't email me) I'm one of those lucky few that has received attention from CHEK 6 over the years and yes you do need to sleep with someone. As for the bridge idea, when the Rhinoceros Party suggested towing Vancouver Island out past the 200 mile limit i voted for them. - Sat, 4 Dec 2004 3:50pm
Yo Mama User Info... | City TV in Vancouver IS the sister station. After the New VI fired half their staff, they now share resources with CityTV - including publicists (the Julia someone spoke to), programming, etc. Look forward to much more of this kind of thing in the future, ie. we won't have a local presence whatsoever after they're finished. I mean, did anyone see that Bif Naked show on the New VI recently? That action was filmed and first shown over a year ago and hosted by a gal who hasn't worked there in a year!!! Slim pickings for local content, to say the least. - Sat, 4 Dec 2004 5:35pm
lonemonk User Info... | I have voted for the Rhino-party before, but I never heard that particular promise; Thats Awesome. I wish they would come back. We're still talking about the same thing Yo Mama. Vancouver probably feels a small fish compared to TO and lack of resources on the left coast. With satellites you do not need as much local anything these days, its everywhere at the same time (And supposedly its cheaper to have a central content factory) Newspaper empires did exactly the same thing. Easier to write it one room and transmit it around the world for inclusion in thousands of papers. All around it's shitty, because the airwaves have never been for people like you and me. Like they used to say, "The only way to ensure freedom of the press is to own one". - Mon, 6 Dec 2004 3:18pm
