There's none! I finally figured that out a year and a half after dropping out of UVic after first year. If are still considered a UVic student, check out http://www.campusworkopolis.com for job postings. Other than that, I've never had any luck with online job stuff. It's all about who you know, and timing, even for the most basic part-time work.

Haha, I bet that makes you feel so much better.
I know for a fact Shelboure Subway is taking applications. University Heights movie theatre had ads up last week or so. If you get on it right away, you might be able to captialize on seasonal retail hiring.

Good luck! - Fri, 19 Nov 2004 1:53am

The Navy gives you a 20,000$ signing bonus if you are educated already. Almost any Post Secondary education will do, as long as it is related to what field of work you choose.I believe there are something like 600 different jobs in Armed Forces, maybe even more. Oh yeah, and the full pension....3,000$/Month for the rest of your life, after 20 yr service is pretty sweet. - Fri, 19 Nov 2004 1:07pm

Pierce they only give you a signing bonus
if you are something specific they need
like an engineer or doctor don't they?

they told me they pay for your school
and if you have that degree you are an automatic
officer, so you get paid more

victoria is all about connections!

With inflation's average rate, 20 years from now, $3000 will be worth less than $300 and that isn't very much per month. I'd do some serious thinking before dedicating the next 20 years to the military services. Just get a temporary job at Honey Bun. - Fri, 19 Nov 2004 7:04pm

Joining the army also makes you a tool for the government, and since our government is basically controlled by the United states. You are becoming a tool for george bush.

Pensions are Indexed. Thats means they adjust as inflation or economy adjusts. So, what you said made no sense.

Yeah Colin Canada's army is pretty small,
we've got enough to patrol our borders
and go on a couple peacekeeping missions,
I don't think your becoming a tool for the government,
our government has no intense military agenda
like the States, and most of our missions
are pretty humanitarian. - Sat, 20 Nov 2004 1:47pm

slacking off, if you just need to get some income go up to WEST and get a job. They hire basically anyone who is breathing and speaks english. Lots of peop ein the 20s work there so it is pretty social and they pay a scootch above minimum wage which is always nice when picking up the ladies.

Malls and retailers are hiring like crazy so pick a store you like and bug the manager.

If you know how to play guitar you could put up posters are schools to teach some lessons after school.

Teach english at one of the ESL schools downtown. The market is a little tight now but they make about $15 an hour and it will pick up as the summer approches. You can even offer private lessons in conversational english, charge whatever you can get away with. I did that before and it was fun and very lax, set my own hours, met lots of fun asians and got paid to hang out for an hour and go over their homework. - Sat, 20 Nov 2004 6:09pm

my point is, that in the future if the Canadian government decides to go war whether in iraq or somewhere else,, They will make you go to war and kill and theirfore you are a tool for the government, even if we are not in this current war. - Sat, 20 Nov 2004 9:24pm

WEST is a phone center in Central Saanich... just blast up the Pat Bay and where there is that suicidal left on to Keating X, yeah take that and go a bit to where you are on this stretch of road with all these factories and boxes of industry and on the left, touchdown!

You do customer service for AT&T and talk to yankees all day who think AT&T is charging to much, you say sorry all day and give them credits and get paid pretty decent considering.

Question for anyone who has worked at WEST in Saanichton: What is their attitude towards long hair on guys? What about visible piercings or tattoos? What's the dress code like? - Mon, 22 Nov 2004 4:44am
DOOMHAMMER
User Info...
As for West: Dress code sucks, its a high school atmosphere, and they fire a lot.

I got my ass fired from there last month cause a supervisor lied about me and said shit I didnt say. She actually just got caught lying again, and she's still there getting more people in shit.

As for dress code, I have piercings, long hair, and tattoos and I was singled out like a mother fucker, getting in trouble for tons of shit, like wearing a hoodie, surrounded by people wearing hoodies, and being the only one being bitched at. The more casual and clean cut you look, the better you are there. Morale there is fucking non existant, but its money. Labor relations hears about them all the time. - Mon, 22 Nov 2004 9:58am

my part time employee works at west full time.
the place sounds like it's run by hittler. i tried to phone her one day and they wouldn't forward my call unless it was a life or death emegency.
plus your jobs consists of taking phone calls for AT&T ... now just think who would call there celluar provider, happy people just calling to tell you your doing a great job. or pissed off people sick of shitty connections dropped calls and poor service. - Mon, 22 Nov 2004 2:55pm

Not to disuade you from applying, Denver, but I've never met someone who worked at West who is still there. If you're looking for something a little more long-term (i.e. more than a couple of months) I'd suggest you not even bother applying. Unless you have a high tolerance for BS in the workplace, as others have mentioned above.

again, good luck with your search.

oh, and if you've ever listened to The Zone @ 91.3FM, I'm sure you've heard their stupid http://www.victoriajobshop.ca ads. That woman's voice is just pure hell. - Mon, 22 Nov 2004 3:16pm

People are being harsh....

Denver... apply at WEST if it is not you long term thing... like you're an actor or musician waitng for your break, you'll be able to get by day-dreaming of better times.

I do know a few people who have been there awhile and they have the high BS tolerance mentioned above so they don't mind. If you put your head down and show up, you can make some decent bonuses.

The pay is better than Macdonalds and like it was also mentioned above, high school attitude. Bad yes, also good as there are tons of young ladies looking for love.

I never worked there, but my better half did for about 9 months of so... hated it everyday but it paid the rent, filled up a savings account and motivated her to move forward. She also made a couple friends which she still has.

Getting that last pay cheque was a bit of a quick in the head :) - Mon, 22 Nov 2004 7:23pm

Metropol may have an opening for an instore poster person and/or someone to do flyering after the bar. It's only part time, but if you like to get fresh air and have an interest in the scene, it can be a pretty decend gig. Great Benefits. Boss is an ass, though.

Fire us an email if you're intested.
