Message Board > General Chitchat > Odds of Beating This Ticket? |
CM User Info... | Hey anyone ever been to traffic court and had a ticket thrown out? I can't really afford this, right before Christmas. Made a bad left-hand turn this morning, so I'm totally guilty. And I don't have anything against cops in general, so save the "Fuck the Pigs" diatribe for another thread. But what are my odds of beating this? The handwriting on the ticket is bad. The cop messed up a bit on the fine amount, and it is partially scribbled over. I have a good idea what the number is, but it's pretty messy. And why should I - a single Dad with 3 part-time jobs - have to make phone calls and get clarification on my fine? If part of a cop's job is to write traffic tickets, shouldn't his/her handwriting be clear? So if I go to court and lose, do I have to pay court costs or any additional cash, as well as the full fine? Or can I beat this one, Matlock? - Tue, 7 Dec 2010 11:12am
Mr. Horse User Info... | What you should do is go to court but don't contest the ticket. Two things can happen here. first of all if the officer that assigned you the ticket does not show up they my dismiss the fine and send you on your way. Second, dispute the amount of the fine. If you don't make a tone of money the judge will drop the amount of the fine by a tone. You will not have to pay any additional court fees. - Tue, 7 Dec 2010 12:24pm
J User Info... | Id say your fubar either way.... even if you go to court, the chances are slim of winning BUT because its going to court, you dont have to pay a dime until you hear a verdict ;) so that could buy you some time to get xmas stuff out of the way. On the flip side; you could just not pay it. - Thu, 9 Dec 2010 10:54am
