The Robins parking thread inspired this rant,

Those pesky little losers on scooters need to get a life. They also need to enforce the parking laws the same thought out the city instead of constantly ticketing the same areas.

I’ve received tickets for parking in a residential area with out a residence sticker. There are signs like this all over the city. There is one in front of my house, and no one has ever receive a ticket in seven years that I’ve lived there. My friend left his truck parked out front for six months and no ticket. Yet I park on a street just south of fort st. and I get a ticket. Same sign as in front of my house and I was only there for an hour.

I’ve received tickets for not parking close enough to the curb. Which by the way is no more than 30cm/12”. Yet I still wasn’t protruding into traffic.

Out in front of where I work, which isn’t ‘downtown’ there is a one hour only zone. I’ve left my car parked out front every day all day for a week and even phoned them to say there was a vehicle parked out front all the time in the one hour zone. They never came by I know this cause in never received a ticket. They told me on the phone that that area of town is not a priority. Yet you park illegally anywhere within a 8 block radius of city hall and your guaranteed a ticket.

If you try to fight the ticket they just send you a letter stating which law you have broken and give you two week extension.

So FUCK EM! Every time I see one of those little wannabe cops on those gay little scooters. I yell profanities at them right as I pass, I also like to come right up behind them and blast my horn while their marking tires. Hahaha see you in HELL! - Thu, 9 Sep 2004 3:20pm

It's not the Scooter guy's fault. Shit, I hate it when people blame employees for stuff like this. Blame the empoyeer who sets the stupid rules. Instead of having a fit at a scooter dude, take your built up frustrations and put it into something constructive. Maybe a letter to city hall. If five thousand people in Victoria honk at a scooter dude because they don't like getting tickets, wil that make you get any less tickets? Hell no! Take these five thousand people and have them write a letter to their municiple government about unreasonable placement of specific parking zones? I guarantee you'll see some change. - Thu, 9 Sep 2004 9:45pm

It is not technically the scooter guy's fault; however, I firmly believe it takes a certain kind of personality to apply for and accept such a job. I'm all for people who supports themselves by whatever means possible but some of these guys are in for the love of the game - and that's sick.

I currently work at a non-profit society within a one hour zone in James Bay and our local scooter guy is a nazi. Nobody here is making big bucks and we rely heavily on the generosity of volunteers to get our work done. So we, volunteers, and unpaid board members are all targets for this little man's idea of a meaningful existance. And the permanent smile on his face is testimony. There is even a loading zone outside and, although the time is not even posted by sign, the limit is only 15 minutes - and believe me this guy is around every 15 minutes checking it. Our staff have been ticketed while unloading/loading their cars/truck. He doesn't care that you are actually in the process of loading while he gets you.

I don't play the game but I feel very sorry for the volunteers who are 5 minutes over the hour and stuck with another bill they can't pay. Of course, I can also park my actual motorcycle pretty much anywhere I want. I'm pretty sure the scooter thing has an emasculating effect they feel a need to overcome with bullying behaviour - reminisant of a child who feels no sense of control at home taking it out on smaller children in the schoolyard.

We do have choices what we do with our lives. And this job is manna for the some of the less well-endowed. Hum, just my opinon, eh. - Mon, 13 Sep 2004 2:05pm

While on the subject of parking, I highly recommend seeing the film The Delicate Art of Parking. I just saw it at Cinecenta last week and laughed my ass off.

Now, continue with the ranting! - Mon, 13 Sep 2004 4:52pm

I hear ya T Racy, but peronaly, I'm glad for the guy on the scooter. Not many people are happy at their jobs. If he can find solice in the frustration of others, then "good for him." I think it sucks that the volunteers get tickets, and I think I sucks when I get a ticket, but we can only blame ourselves for those kinda things. Parking Nazi's just doing his job, and he's doing it well. He'd be a bad scooter partol dude if he let people slide. Besides, what's in it for him if he does let people off ? If you were to bribe him in some way, you may get some better results. Giving someone a slice of pizza, or taking a shot in the mouth can usually get you what you want. - Mon, 13 Sep 2004 9:32pm

Agreed. These guys are stone cold, with personalities of rocks. I've bartered, I've begged, I've been through road blocks with an open beer tucked under my jacket, but still no leaniance on parking tickets. So either flash some cash, or don't get caught in the first place.

This subject is boring now. - Tue, 21 Sep 2004 3:39pm

I have a place downtown , and yesterday our baker put money in one of those coin-op ticket dispenser boxes, and it issued no ticket...apparently. He left a note on the window in place of the tickets(6 dollars worth) and was towed anyway. Upon calling the towtruck company, they said that the driver had gone to the box, FOUND the ticket, thus confirming his story, and towed him anyway. Fuck towtruck vultures too.
To further this rant, we have junkies leaving used rigs beside the dumpster in our alley DAILY, and I have caught a couple of these wastes jamming there in broad dailight. When I called the police about the situation they said they didn't have the manpower to police all the alleys (their job, no?) and they could send over a consultant to teach us how to make the alley less inviting. Last month, to add insult to injury, I got a ticket for parking in the same alley. Are the commisionaires( herafter to be referred to as "vultures") braver than the cops? Answer: protecting the public doesn't bring home the bacon nearly as well as handing out tickets to someone trying to make an honest living. Vultures. Carrion. Not to mention your taxpayers dollars at work.
Not welcome anywhere.

Incidentally, I personally made the alley less inviting by being extremely unfriendly, bordering on nasty. - Wed, 22 Sep 2004 4:54am
