I was wondering if anyone else here has had unpleasent experiences with Robbins Parking. I am assuming at least someone has. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do in my situation feel free to let me know.

I was going to work and parked my car, got out and went to the ticket dispenser. I selected a $5 all day parking ticket and put my credit card in. My credit card was charged the $5 but a parking ticket was not printed. I needed to get to work and didn't feel like putting my card in again so I left my car in the lot without a ticket displayed on the dash.

After work I grabbed the violation notice that I expected to get and went home. As soon as I got home I filled out a dispute on their web site. I explained that their machine did not print a ticket and I do not expect to pay the $48 fine.

They emailed me back saying that it is my responsibility to display a ticket. They gave me a "break" and are only going to charge me $15 if I pay by Aug 30th.

I was wondering if anyone has any past experiences or stories that could help me in this situation. I am planning on going to their office and try to talk to some one in management. If that doesn't work I am thinking about going to the BBB for help. - Thu, 26 Aug 2004 6:46pm

Talk to the higher-ups and show them that you were billed for this shit already. Fight the oppression! I hate that company. I've had disputes like that before and bitch until I don't have to pay. - Thu, 26 Aug 2004 9:04pm

That's a good point. Check with your credit card company and see if the charge went through. Presenting proof of payment, in the form of a CC statement, might be enough to convince them. - Fri, 27 Aug 2004 12:21am

Exact same thing.....

Fort Street......Went to pay for my parking, put in CC, CC machine didn't work,,,,,,Went inside to get change from a store, came out, car was ticketed by the time i got to my car with my PAID stub.

My ticket time said 1:11 pm......my PAID stub said 1:10pm, i still had to pay their 15$ "give me a break" price. I fought and fought and fought,,,so although i had indeed paid for their service EVEN BEFORE getting the ticket, i still had to pay. BULLSHIT, you cant beat RObbins, they have their own laws. Fuckers

ALSO......they wouldnt give me back my 2$ i spent for parking,,,,,remember,,they owe you 5 $,,at least they should. You wont get it though - Fri, 27 Aug 2004 6:42am

I went thru the same thing. Went to their office and they're very abrupt, goons standing around the office. You'll probably have to pay their $15.00-or-else-we'll-punch-you-in-the-head fee. - Fri, 27 Aug 2004 8:14am

I'm usually a pretty calm guy, but the same thing happened to me and I lost it. I parked in a lot and needed five $1 tickets for the day. The machine only had three left. I called Robbins when I got to my office and told them about the dispenser and gave them the license plate number of my truck. Of course, when I got off work I had a ticket. I phoned them and re-explained everything and they told me I had to come in. I was busy and didn't get into their office for a couple of weeks. The girl behind the counter told me I had taken too long to get back to them and that I'd have to pay the $15. I said No. She got her Manager and after about fifteen minutes of intense argument and increasing volume, the Manager decided to "let it go". Don't think that you're going to get through to this company's collective conscience - it doesn't have one. The only way is to berate and embarass them. Take it to their office and get animated. - Fri, 27 Aug 2004 9:00am

I had a parking fine w/ Robbins once..I think it ended up being $50 for some reason, and they kept sending me bills in the mail, so I mailed them a check for $5..and that was the end of that. - Fri, 27 Aug 2004 1:38pm

A couple of years ago, Robbins actually ticketed my bike when I wasn't even parked on their lot. I was parked under a tree on city property near their lot. A ticket from the city I expected and would have paid, but some little Robbins lacky with a distorted sense of empowerment went way overboard.
I got the ticket cancelled by repeatedly sending faxes laced with legal jargon to their office until they got sick of hearing from me. Can't guarantee that would work again, but a reference to the Hell's Angels doesn't hurt either. - Fri, 27 Aug 2004 3:58pm

I don't think they are all fuckers. I bet 99 percent of the employees are just good, honest people doing their job to pay the bills, like you and me. Their problem, and the "fuckers" are probably like 2 or 3 people who don't understand customer realtions. "The customer is always right". If someone calls up the office and says, "Today I swiped my credit card at your lot on Fort St. and the ticket didn't print out." The buisness SHOULD reply, "Sorry about that sir. We'll clear your ticket and send someone over right away to make sure that the ticket dispenser is working properly."

I don't know how much revenue Robbins parking makes, but I'm pretty sure they could let 15 bux slide. These guys should be taken to the BBB. - Thu, 9 Sep 2004 9:32pm

I used to live on Bank St right beside the Jubilee Hospital, there are all those 'Residential Only' signs everwhere so that people who were going to the hospital didn't take the parking spots. First night I moved in I had to park on the street because there was no room in the driveway. The next 'afternoon' I wake up to find 2 parking tickets on my car, and the guy was leaving the 3rd, so i run over and explain that I had just moved in and my landlord had to get new parking passes because the old tenants had taken them. Shit out of luck for me, then my landlord came running over to see what was happening. The guy said 'too bad' to the landlord too, so my landlord told me he would look after it.
2 years later I get a $150 bill in the mail for that ticket, fucking landlord didn't do shit. Couldn't find his number, so I made a court appointment.
Court threw it out, me no pay no fine. - Thu, 9 Sep 2004 11:19pm

You may be right KinChris, but ever single time I have had to deal with them I could not find that one person who would even consider that the customer is right. For some weird reason they do not consider people who park at their lot a 'customer'. When you think about it, they own so many parking areas that in some areas of town you have almost no choice to use an alternative. They're in the business of collecting fees, and I don't think they have any experience with actually waiving fees, or giving money back. I would imagine its really the decision maker/management who are the Fuckers, because they train the employees to only accept money, never give it away. "If we can make double on some poor person who has to swipe the card twice all the better."
I've no doubt there are some normal people working there, but I'd really like to know what their name is for next time I have to do some business over there.
I haven't asked directly, but I'm willing to guess that there is already a BBB file on them. (Possibly not a totally damning file, but some complaints) - Fri, 10 Sep 2004 8:52am

I guess one of the problems is that there aren't any companies to compete with Robbins in the parking lot industry (well, at least none that I've heard of). Let's say I own a big buisness downtown, and I own the lot beside my buisness that I lease out to Robbins. If my employees are always complaining about rediculus ticket fines and brutal customer relations with Robbins, then I may consider leasing my lot to another company that can give me parking machines that work.

As for Robbins not thinking of us as "customers?" Well, if Robbins had some competion, then we would be considered "customers." Every business needs customers. - Sat, 11 Sep 2004 10:48am

I don't think they take part in the BBB. I know Impark does not.

The thing about the BBB is that it is an industry watchdog, set up by industry and is voluntary. Its for companies that care about customer service. expample might be Walmart, McDonalds, ICBC, Telus, Kmart. Walmart can then brag that they are "part of the Better Business Bureau, shop at our store and know that we care!"

Impark, Robbins, don't care. As was stated, they make money but robbing you of yours.

Here is the BBBs stated mission, from their site:
http://www.bbbvanisland.org/

"To promote and foster the highest ethical relationship between businesses and the public through voluntary self-regulation, consumer and business education and service excellence." - Sat, 11 Sep 2004 9:38pm

I have had quite a few Robbins Tickets. I have NEVER paid one of them. There isn't really fuck all they can do about it.... Maybe they can tow your car from a Robbins lot BUT, If you go into ant insurance dealer and say that you have lost one of your licence plates, they will assign you a new set for only $20.. Thats cheaper than the Robbins ticket, and they can't tow you because they will not have th new plate on file ......FUCK ROBBINS PARKING AND TELUS !!!!!!!!!!!! - Sun, 12 Sep 2004 11:20am

--- every individual in the organization may be a genuinely nice person, but the fact remains that the organization itself is structured in such a way that it is fucking evil. the problems people have had are not necessarily with bad individuals (although some have been) but with bad policies and a bad mandate. - Sun, 12 Sep 2004 1:36pm
