Above the knee User Info... | Has anyone been to this venue? I've heard they are open to metal concerts. Is that even a good idea? I thought it was a place to get sandwiches! - Mon, 5 Jul 2010 3:45pm

MC -K.N.Z. User Info... | Is that the place underneath the BC shaver shop? They have shows there? Always good to have more venue's in this town. - Mon, 5 Jul 2010 4:03pm
Above the knee User Info... | Yes it is that spot. Is it super tiny? Does it have room for people to stand around or possibly even mosh? Seems odd - Mon, 5 Jul 2010 4:25pm
steve User Info... | its small.. .. but room to mosh for sure. go take a look. have a beer and a sandwich. cool atmosphere. - Mon, 5 Jul 2010 5:08pm
Ados User Info... | Every show I've played / attended at this venue has been awesome. The food's good too. - Mon, 5 Jul 2010 7:16pm
LTR User Info... | It's a very cool venue / vibe. Reminds me of the Cavern or something. - Capacity is 80 I believe, and I'm pretty sure people have to remain seating. (I may be wrong on this, but i'm pretty sure that is the case. ) I don't think it would be ideal for metal, but a venue is a venue. - Mon, 5 Jul 2010 7:57pm
steve User Info... | never heard or saw anything that would suggest mandatory sitting.. - Tue, 6 Jul 2010 10:54am
You Enjoy Myself User Info... | I love Fort St Cafe - both for the food, and for the fact that they host great music in a living room setting. I don't know if a metal show there would go over too well as that's not what's normally played there. I've played 3 shows there and always had a great time. It's a tiny little stage, but I've seen it fit 5 people before. As far as the seating thing goes, I think that technically people are supposed to be sitting at all times due to the liquor license that they have, so you'll see Benji going around to ask people to sit down every now and again. They have a lot of good boardgames there that you can play too, and at one point there was an Atari in the back. And if you're feeling nostalgic, the chairs that they have there were purchased from Steamer's when they closed down. - Tue, 6 Jul 2010 4:22pm
::Saint:: User Info... | Year of the Rat has played several shows at the Fort Street Cafe -- in fact we have another one coming up on the 31st which will be our official CD Release show. I definitely concur with comparisons to The Cavern .. It's a much bigger venue than you'd think when you first come in and is a very comfortable place to play. The food is awesome too, and bands that are playing get 1/2 price. As far as a metal show goes .. I'd guess Benji would be up for it.. I don't know that you'd want to play a really loud metal show there, though heavyish rock bands such as my own don't seem to have any trouble. The only real complaint I have is that the stage is tiny, though somehow it never really presented a problem, compared to, say, the Cambie's or something like that. - Wed, 7 Jul 2010 4:16pm
Tyler User Info... | I did sound at a show there once. here's some things about the place: -the people who run and work the place are super awesome, very nice, very accommodating, just great all around people -the space is VERY long and narrow, with the bar counter running along one side. the width is approximately two tables, but the length is like 15+ tables. I think they have a projector that takes video of the stage and puts it on the far opposite wall or something. -I'm not sure if they could / would want to move the tables but the one show I was helping out at involved everyone sitting down even though it was synthrock type bands playing -the stage is fairly small, it'd be a cram for a 5-piece or a 4-piece with lots of gear. and that's without any room to move around at all. -they have their own PA equipment and it's suitable enough for the place. I'd imagine bringing a bass 8x10 or something to be QUITE over-excessive. - Wed, 7 Jul 2010 5:17pm
Benji User Info... | Hello folks, my name is Benji, I am one of the owners of the Fort Cafe and do all of the bookings. The Fort Cafe is an 80 seater venue, we pride ourselves on offering a unique listening experience for music fans. We don't have any prejudice against any time of music, but I only book bands who demonstrate an understanding dynamics and musicality. We are an all seater venue with an overall love of the arts, music, food and booze. We don't claim to be a club or a pub and we welcome anybody who is not a massive arsehole. To give you an idea of the diversity of acts we have had over the last 3 years, here are some bands who have graced our stage: The Wooden Sky Sub City Dwellers Seven Year Old Poets Forestry Carolyn Mark Chet Bend Sinister Dixies Deathpool David P Smith Lonseome Valley Singers Novamatics and many many more. We have live music every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We feature local, national and international acts. If you would like to play then email me at [email protected] I hope this helps. Cheers Benji - Tue, 20 Jul 2010 3:26pm
