Shaggy User Info... | What a fucking act of futility. Only cannucks would re-elect the shitheads that ripped off 10's of millions of dollars of taxpayers money. And with the bloq and PC's making up a large oposition they might as well have just all voted PC in the 1st place. Swear to god there are far too many sheep in this country. - Tue, 29 Jun 2004 9:12am
Mike User Info... | I voted Green. I will not accept the force feed bullshit of the Liberals or Conservatives. The country is still gonna get fucked. - Tue, 29 Jun 2004 12:29pm
josh User Info... | What are you talking about. The conservatives lost! The NDP hold the balance of power (well, the balance half the seats as of right now, pending recounts) If the liberals want their minority govt to be effective, they've gotta team up with someone. There is one indy who got in, so the NDP might actually be in an excellent position to leverage their party values. What I think is a little unfortunate is the split in the lefty vote between the greens and the NDP, when the party politics are so close to eachothers. I think alot of younger people vote green without really bothering to know what they're about, based solely on the name or the image. Did you see how many ridings the NDP lost by less than 2%?. If the green votes had gone to the NDP, they'd probably have 5-10 more seats and the people who did vote green would have had their views much better represented for the next two or so years. Don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome that the greens are gonna be gettin' some funding next time around. That's a good thing. josh - Tue, 29 Jun 2004 3:29pm
Broccoli User Info... | Yeah, I voted, and it didn't seem to help. Democracy is Gay. - Tue, 29 Jun 2004 3:41pm
Shaggy User Info... | Umm Josh, you do realise how this works I trust? Liberals have a minotity government which means they have to entice another party to get onboard to have things pass through parliament if/when they propose changes. Think the PC/Bloq will side with them? Obvioulsy you haven't paid too much attention to the animosity between the 3 parties, so that leaves the NDP to fall inline to assist the Liberals pass anything. The PC and Bloc will undoubtedly band together to ensure the Liberal thieves have more than enough trouble passing anything, and vice versa with the Liberal/NDP alliance that will have to happen. The Conservatives not gaining even a minority government is not what you need to fear in the longrun. It's the outcome of the logical alliance between the Bloc and PC's that is what should be feared. We can thank the morons in alberta and saskatchewan for giving the PC's as many seats as they did. Alberta was a given, guess the people of saskatchewan have rather short term memory regarding what the PC's pulled in the not too distant past in that province, especially when more than a handful of their reps were criminally charged with misapropriation of provincial funds. - Tue, 29 Jun 2004 4:06pm
josh User Info... | Exactly what I said. The liberals have to team up with the NDP (+ Chuck Cadman). Since the NDP was never in the running as a leadership candidate, that's a good thing. It makes the NDP one helluvalot stronger than it would have ever been had a majority been elected, and gives a progressive party a voice. The BQ and the conservatives are unlikely to team up. The BQ is too far to the left for the conservatives. And if they do, they still can't force a non confidence vote. If the liberals and the NDP can agree, some good things could happen. - Tue, 29 Jun 2004 4:16pm
Shaggy User Info... | So the NDP having to go into the pocket of the largest federal bunch of thieves to ever run this country is a good thing? What ends up happening in these scenarios is one party ends up giving up ther platform promises/agenda to appease another. This does nothing but weaken an already weak party (NDP). Could care less what Chuck Cadman does cause he's pretty much an asshole as well. The morons in this country chose the lesser of 2 evils rather than looking at what was offered by the actual candidates or their platforms, typical sheep mentality. - Tue, 29 Jun 2004 7:46pm
Mike User Info... | Josh, I know the Conservatives lost you moron. Doesn't mean that we are now safe. We are still screwed regardless. - Wed, 30 Jun 2004 7:17pm
KnifeGhost User Info... | Shaggy, the Liberals have to appease The NDP to keep the government together.... The BQ won enough seats in this election that Gilles Duceppe doesn't want to chance another election, so it's in their interests to work with the Liberals to keep the government together....... More than anything else, the Liberal budgets have to keep both the NDP _and_ the BQ happy, _both of which are left wing parties_......... This situation _strengthens_ the power of the NDP....... - Fri, 2 Jul 2004 10:20am
lonemonk User Info... | The BQ are capable and willing to work with Liberals if and when they get something in return, and you can bet they will get things Quebec wants in return for unofficial support for certain initiatives. Also, you can bet there will be no 'free' votes, parties will be forced to vote along the line (In order to pass something or thwart it, whichever the case may be) The other parties are unlikely to want to force another election too soon; In the past this has sometimes lead to a decrease in their numbers as a form of retribution for making everyone line up again. Unless things get truly strange I would imagine we will have this government for 2 years or so, possibly almost a full term. NDP and Conservatives are perhaps less likely to ever vote with the liberals. Except for power the liberals don't have anything the conservatives want. The French on the other hand..... You name it, they want it. - Fri, 2 Jul 2004 10:33am
