The Professor User Info... | So, Ads finally came to the messageboard, it was inevetable and I think ended up much better than it could have been. They are down at the bottom of threads. They won't be there all the time, and you won't see any one ad more than once per visit. I'm personally happy with the way it turned out because it's subtle and pertty non-intrusive, certainly better than some bg flashy banner. Basically the content down there will be mostly local or stuff about the site, maybe ads for jam spaces or recording studios, a new album by a local band or whatever. You get the idea, not the usual garbage you see on websites. So there it is. Your thoughts? - Mon, 19 Apr 2004 10:11pm
Dd[]Sanger User Info... | Good idea! Whats the fee if any? - Mon, 19 Apr 2004 10:44pm
Mi*coll* User Info... | Neve- you bourgeosie money-grubber. This was supposed to be a worker's utopia, not some kind of hegemonic, informational power-structure strictly defined within a narrow, profit-driven corporate framework! - Mon, 19 Apr 2004 10:51pm
sewnflesh User Info... | i will not be happy if there are ads on this board.. its nice with none. keep it that way if you can i say. - Mon, 19 Apr 2004 11:03pm
Ty Stranglehold User Info... | I'm not sure how this is related, but ever since the ads showed up, I don't stay logged in. I heave and come back and have to log in again. I even clicked the little "remember me" box and everything. - Tue, 20 Apr 2004 6:13am
Shaggy User Info... | Same thing here Ty. - Tue, 20 Apr 2004 8:58am
Stan User Info... | I'd change the font color/size to be less obtrusive if you are going the ad route, and leave a border beneath the posts. - Tue, 20 Apr 2004 9:00am
The Professor User Info... | Yeah, I noticed a problem with not staying logged in too. I'm going to look into that. I don't know how it would be related but nonetheless there is a problem and i'm workign on it. I think I will change the look a little bit to make it a little less obtrusive. If this site is to continue though, it's got to support itself, that's the reality. The messageboard genreates the most traffic and thus the most cost and so it has to play a part in paying those costs. I think if you look around at what the alternatives are we're doing pretty good here. I reiterate all the content of these "ads" is going to be for local bands and businesses. You aren't going to see any Coke banners. I'm providing a cheap way for people to promote whatever they've got ($10 for 1000 views). That's the whole idea of this site is giving power to people that would otherwise not have it. But, this site has bills to pay and scott and I have to eat so we do need to have some revenue coming in. More than anything though, I plan to use these "ads" just to point out the features of the site, help keep people aware of all the things it can do. It's just a really nice convenient way to communicate with the people using the site and keep them informed of what's available. - Tue, 20 Apr 2004 1:57pm
brad User Info... | I personally think the ads are fine, its no different than the promo stuff you see for bands when you first log in. It seems to be all site related and local..so what the hell...its not like there's a fucking McDonalds banner flying at the bottom.... - Tue, 20 Apr 2004 4:38pm
The Professor User Info... | Ok I figured out what was wrong with respect to people not getting logged in automatically and I fixed it. Is it workign for everyone now? - Tue, 20 Apr 2004 5:16pm
