Ok, fuck this shit. I have come to my senses. I am old. I dont give a shit who says what, but when i am up at 6 am on a saturday morning and there is no sign of the Smurfs anywhere on TV, that means i am old. I go to bed at 10 pm at the latest everynight so that i can get well rested. Well rested for what? Beyond me. All i friggin do is bitch and complain about chumps, play my guitar, pay my taxes and go to bed early. Also..................... I looked around and my plants are alive, and you can't smoke any of them! First sign of being old!

Here is a request..........For all you elders out there, lets start walking down memory lane and bring up shit from our generation. The shit should be something that only those who have experienced 70's 80's 90's and 00's would get or remember.

I will start.......

Sorry, guess that's more the late 60's..hehe Although they did rerun a lot of the classic cartoons well into the mid 70's and 80's. Hell, classic spiderman is still on cartoon net.

Then there's school house rock. Always loved that when I was a kid. - Sat, 10 Apr 2004 8:51am

weekdays started with star blazers at like 6:30 or something. Weekends started with the Banana Splits show and the Bay City Rollers show. Weekends ended with Love Boat, Fantasy Island, then Rat Patrol and if the parents were in a good mood I got to stay up late enough to watch Doctor Who. What about Fat Albert, and the cartoon they all used to watch on the show? I think it was the brown hornet. - Sat, 10 Apr 2004 10:08am

Video Hits ROCKED!

does anyone remember the CKDA "request and dedication hour" at night?? I was too young to stay up so I used to bring my stuffed animal Radio Shack radio owl to bed (it was an owl with a small radio in its belly) and listen in.

ALSO, that show "Land of the Lost" re-runs in the 80's with the Sleestaks!!!!! Those things scared me so much I would run out of the room and my brother would let me know when they were gone ; ) check THIS OUT: (too funny)

Tragedy--I am with you on the Muppets! One of the all-time best shows. The movies don't do the actual shows any justice. I hope there is some Muppet syndication in the works.

And "The Faggles" were definitely a lapse in the judgement of the otherwise brilliant Jim Henson. Radishes taste like ass.

I also fondly remember the "Don't drown your food" warnings/mantra. It must have worked to a degree, because I still think about that song when I use condiments.

How about books? Stephen Cosgrove (the Serendipity series), Beverly Cleary, Judy Blume, Seuss (before his wife ruined everything)...

I grew up with one channel so I was deprived of most of the shows you guys are talking about but does anyone remember the old National Film Board spots that used to run. For anyone from southern ontario:
Hilarious House of Frightenstein! CHCH (11) in Hamilton.
60 minutes of psychedelia Canadian style. Billy Van, Vincent Price + Others.

Too bad there are no official recordings left, and the Americans cut up most of the episodes they had into 30 minute segments. Still, it remains a righteous show. Billy Van died last yeat if I'm not mistaken.

Check eBay, you can find many episodes for sale at a good price. Or, Goto: http://www.frightenstein.com/
(Hopefully they still have the downloadable episode)

Wake up at 6:00am, leave your jammies on, get some mega-sugar cereal and pop one of those in the DVD player. Remember, its never to early to smoke hash.

Update: Apparently there are some Bit Torrent files of this show out there. (http://dessent.net/btfaq/)
I suggestion ya'll download Bit Torrent anyway, it is quickly replacing all previous version of P2P-type applications. (Kazaa, Limewire, etc) - Sat, 10 Apr 2004 11:13pm

House of Frightenstein rocks! They were playin re-runs of that last year.

I always enjoyed SCTV and SNL....back when the old crew were on and skits were actually funny. Just saw the re-run of Boomtown Rats on SCTV...Geldof, what a honey. Mmmm Mmm!

Gone & best forgotten...Charlie's Angels, which was responsible for destroying the self image of every young girl who couldn't quite capture the Fawcett Feather. Blech! Why they keep making movies out of crappy 70's t.v. is beyond me.

Remember that comerical with, I think, Bare Naked Ladies, they were singing on this planet all in different colours and polka dots, about the harmony of different people?

Some shows I remember; Racoons, Smoggies, Captain Planet, He Man, Transformers, Inspector Gadget, My Pet Monster, Dino the Dinosaur(might be making that one up)

Air Wolf, A-Team, Hawaii 5-0,

I have so many memories of watching the news too, especially on CTV...not sure why...

I also remember fragments of shows I can't piece together, some car/machine show where I think they changed shape, and they had human buddies who drove/operated them. almost along the lines of Speed Racer. - Sun, 11 Apr 2004 7:33am

h.r. puffenstuff, wow I had actually forgotten that one. o.k. books from childhood, what about the Narnia series huh. More cartoons, Snaggletooth, yogi and booboo, deputy dog...bwahahahahah. Rocket Robinhood sucked I always hated it. The Dukes of Hazzard, a couple of "good old boys" in a car with a confederate flag on it, I bet that was a huge hit in Harlem. Threes company, and then when it ended Jack had that spin off that bombed after a couple of seasons. Oh more cartoons, what about the Superfriends.. Wonder twin powers activate, form of a bucket of ice. Where the fuck did the bucket always come from he could only form into water. Go back a little farther, my three sons, the dick van dyke show, the andy griffith show. Remember the song they whistled at the beginning? It was called "Three's A Crowd". You see, Jack and his fiancee move into the apartment above the resraunt that he has just leased. Just as they're about to "get down" the door opens to reveal the said fiancee's father(who doesn't like Jack). The reason he's there is simple; he bought the building.

RE: My Pretty Pony
"Not officially a part of the My Little Pony family, My Pretty Pony was Hasbro's predecessor of My Little Pony. She was made by Romper Room (a division of Hasbro), and later by Hasbro itself in 1981. Much larger than the Little Ponies we knew in the following years, My Pretty pony stood about 10 inches tall and originally looked like any oridinary toy pony. However, with her many accessories for grooming and dress-up, and later, a pastel makeover, My Pretty Pony was quickly evolving into the decade's most beloved collection of model horses, My Little Pony."

HOLY SHIT! I'm OLD! How did this happen to me? I remember when the biggest thing in cartoons was when you got to see Cobra Commander's face in GI Joe the movie!

I complain about today's music, I hate teenagers and pre-teens, I'm more into politics and global events than ever before, I relate with my parents as friends (as opposed to the parent/child relationship), I pay taxes and think about things like painting and gardening on the weekends.

...sigh. It's all downhill from here. At least I'm not into breeding right now and don't have a mortgage. - Tue, 13 Apr 2004 1:48pm

Whoa! Bringing back memories. Well let's see, I grew up in a British household in Sooke, so I of course watched as much British SciFi as possible (I too stayed up past 2am watching Dr. Who on KVOS TV-12). I remember eagerly awaiting the TV Guide to see which cartoons would hit the fall schedules. Saturday Morning Cartoons were "must see TV". Yep, JP Patches always got ya going in the morning (as far as I know he's still alive and still doing that). Gee what else. Watched both Star Blazers and Robotech series (cause back then, Anime was rare). I also worked on a video show for 5 years on Friday nights, this was back before Much Music was free. Anyone remember the House of Commons video? I always made sure we played it every week. One thing I used to watch Sunday nights, wrestling (WWF and NWA, Four Horsemen, WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!) oh and Saturday afternoons on Channel 13. Saw all the SCTV episodes when they were first released. Wow, I could babble about this for hours. - Wed, 14 Apr 2004 7:26pm
