About

Jonne Krom

circa 1984 - circa 1988
Jonne Krom (pron. Johnny Chrome), was a 5-piece original alternative rock band that performed and recorded in Vancouver during the mid 1980s. Created ostensibly as a duo in 1984 by Mark Reed and Graeme Chard, Jonne Krom gradually added new members and songwriters, some replacing others through the band's 4 year life span. The result was a rich variety of female/male co-lead vocals, lots of 3 and 4-part harmonies, and a tight drums/bass rhythm section, all centered primarily around the guitar/keyboard sonics and songwriting of Graeme and Mark.

Other members wrote key songs, too, and the band's range of influences included XTC, Talk Talk, Shriekback, Beatles, Metheny, Marianne Faithful, Echo and the Bunnymen, and others. Graeme was the primary male lead singer of the band and Julie Faye, first, and Kathleen Bolton, later, were the female lead singers. Bassist Lew Doobay sang lead on his own songs, as well.

Jonne Krom performed live more than it recorded, though it did produce some notable recordings, including of some of its live performances. Following some personnel changes in early 1988, the group changed its name to The Fault.

In 2021, Mark had two albums-worth of Jonne Krom's songs mastered and released for downloading via his website, www.bigspeck.ca, and Bandcamp and for streaming via Spotify, YouTube, iTunes, Amazon, Tik Tok, and other sites.
