About

Lola Parks

Instruments: Vocals, Guitar, Composition/Songwriting, Piano/Keyboards details
Lola Parks (Sandy Powlik) is a Soul Folk Pop singer-songwriter from Vancouver. Her style is intelligent, intimate, evocative, boho chic. A skillful and intelligent songwriter, she is deeply influenced by her Indigenous and European heritage while staying true to her jazz roots ALA Sara Bareilles, Brandi Carlile, Bonnie Raitt, Norah Jones.

Aligned with National Indigenous Peoples' Day and Mother's Day, 2023 releases include "Freight Train (Mother Hubbard mix)," which speaks to truth, reconciliation, forgiveness and moving forward, and “You Are The Best,” the cover art of which features Parks' mama as a young girl standing victorious. “It’s a fun, relaxed female empowerment tune,” says Parks, “urging us to stay strong and true to ourselves.”

Parks describes 2022 singles "You Are Light (Lynne's Song),” a tribute to Parks’ mama, "It'll Be All Right," on loss of life due to overdose and suicide, and “Never Alone” as "Somber yet hopeful, carrying on with resilience and acceptance: la vida sigue (life goes on)."

2020 album No Apologies features singles, “Dreamer” and two-time ISC semi-finalist “Freight Train” (2020, 2021). “No Apologies encourages us to own all of who we are, stand strong in our roots and our right to be, speak our truth and stand up to power,” explains Parks. “The songs speak to female empowerment, dialogue, forgiveness, and celebrating where we come from.”

Parks has created a fiercely independent musical history: 35-song One Stop catalogue, 5 continents, 5 studio albums, *5 singles in the last year*, multiple awards (Female Songwriter of the Year, Band of the Year, Most Outstanding Vocal Jazz Musician), tours, TV/film/radio syncs including FOX/LionsGate TV's "Higher Ground," Mutant Films' "The Orchard," and CBC Radio's “Early Edition" theme song. Stay tuned for more new music by Lola Parks in 2023!

“One seriously amazing voice” - Brett Smith-Daniels, Luxton Fair

"Lola Parks is the most mature, original, soulful and honest fusion/folk act I've had the pleasure to witness. Sandy Powlik’s dangerous writing and immaculate vocal stylings inspire me to get up tomorrow.” - Barry Newman, Cosmic Debris Magazine

“Outstanding voice…Spot-on, beautiful work, perfect pitch, great lyrics delivered beautifully. Superb emotion and inflection, just as good as it gets. Brilliant!” – Barry Morgan, Talenttrove.com

“The song is only 17 seconds old, but I’m in love.” – Ben LeRoy, AmphetaZine

"Sandy’s music comes from a place of natural beauty. Like the artist herself it sings with honesty and makes the listener move closer in hopes of capturing every note and word.” – Jeff Dawson, Producer
