Mr. Hell's right - a new Canucks thread is in order, and what better way, surely, to usher in.....to....roll out the red carpet.....to.....get out the ol' fucking tophat and cane and shuffle off to Buffalo......with a photo of the singer Wing?
Anyway Schneider at the very least will be useful in the dressing room.
If Heatley were to ever actually come here I'm concerned about what he's really made of during a slump.
Apparently Shroeder is really exceeding expectations in training camp.

Exciting season coming up here
Gillis locked up the twins
Samuelson is an awesome pick up
Expect a breakout year from Kesler
Bernier is in the best shape of his career
Same foe Wellwood

We lost Ohlund
but
we now have Scneider, Erhoff, and Lukowich
Will there be room for Hodgson?
Will Grabner get his much deserved shot at the bigs?
How about that Schroeder kid? What a steal of a draft pick.

Gillis has signed Sergei Shirokov from the Russian league, could be another Datsyuk

Much more to come
Will we get Heatley
If Luongo signs an extension, then Corey Schneider is wasted on the Moose

and finally
Alexander Burrows
Watch out for this kid this season
Keep him with the twins, he'll score fifty

Am I planning a parade route?
No
After last season, never again.

Excited though. - Sat, 29 Aug 2009 6:24pm

*Full No Trade Clause

-Cap hit $5.33 million a year

This deal is a genius deal. First of all, it lowers his Cap Hit from what it is now.
Also, his cap hit is smaller than Mikka Kiprusoff, and he is a much better goaltender, and 4 years younger. His cap hit is also lower than Nabokov's and Lundqvist's.
This move adds stability to the organization and will help attract other UFA's. With inflation, if Luongo is effective into his late 30s as great goalies often are, the Canucks will have a BARGAIN on their hands, and can afford to spend A LOT around him with what will be a minuscule cap hit.

I smell a trade a brewin'. We have far too many defencemen and now have a future star net minder that we have no use for.

MG makes David Copperfield look like an amateur.

Yep
this year's team is looking good
I knew Gillis was going to be a great GM when he signed Hordichuck
I feel this team is in good hands now
The Aquilinis have invested heavily in Player development and scouting
Now that the court case is settled, and Nonis' plugs are all gone, everything is starting to take shape nicely
No more questioning Luongo's loyalty
The twins are nicely established NHL stars
Good supporting cast
Amazing defense
Best goalie in the world
Good youth

The Luongo signing fills me with dread just like the Naslund and Bertuzzi signings did years ago. This year he will have the expectations of the whole country on him at the Olympics (which will be in his home rink and in which he might well be the #1 goalie for us). Right after that he gets to go on the longest road trip in team history. This does not bode well for a guy who has demonstrated an inability to rise to the occasion in pressure situations. If he doesn't win SOMETHING in the early stages of this contract (like a Vezina, Hart, Conn Smythe, hell even a Jennings) and if we can't progress beyond the 2nd round of the playoffs there will be much grumbling in Vancouver before too long. - Tue, 8 Sep 2009 12:47am

There is indeed quite a lot of pressure on Luongo in that regard, and quite honestly if he doesn't fulfill any of the above-stated objectives, then I might have to go over to Vancouver, watch a practice, situate myself by the gate where the players come on and off the ice, and give him a shot over the head with the ol' chicken. - Tue, 8 Sep 2009 7:30am

yeah I'm glad to see the back of Taylor "please don't compare me to Jim Sandlak" Pyatt.
Those are awesome shutout stats (imagine how many he woulda got if he didn't get injured!), but the accolades Zippgunn mentioned take BUCKETLOADS more precedence over that. (well the Jennings is a bit meh)
(or at the very least not let Bufyulughuen get under his skin)
(like my enhanced spelling on the name)
(man! parentheses are just too fuckin good)
(as always?)
Not to slag on the Jennings either, necessarily, but in comparison to the others, yes, meh. - Tue, 8 Sep 2009 5:23pm Edited: Tue, 8 Sep 2009 5:31pm

Shut-outs are only useful when they lead directly to a Stanley Cup...besides, they should be credited to the blue liners as well because solid defense keeps it that way.
Luckily there is a clause in the contract that allows the NTC to be melted down and buried if there is serious underachieving going on.
I am glad to have stability in the net. The way the team is going, within the next few years I think elite players will want to come here because of the way players are treated, the new, advanced methods and the commitment to winning.
Will there be a Cup? There is a one in thirty chance of this happening each and every year.
Pyatt? Yeah, he needed to be gone years ago. - Tue, 8 Sep 2009 9:14pm

the fact that Gillis got Erhoff and Lukowich for White and Rahimi is pure genius.

Erhoff dominated my hockey pool last year as a leading point scoring D-man and he is still young. Lukowich has multiple Stanley Cup rings and is also relatively young (Jason Nabbes once scrapped him in Cranbrook haha ) Both players bring a great element to the team. - Wed, 9 Sep 2009 9:54am

Hansen has been looking good as of late too. Nice to see fringe young guys like Hansen and Raymond start to pick it up as they pack on the pounds and become men. The depth this year is pretty sweet. When an experienced guy like Baumgartner is maybe your 3rd in line Defensive call-up, after Oberg and Rome, thats not too shabby. I dont even know where they are going to fit old man Schneider. - Tue, 22 Sep 2009 10:56am

I thought Erhoff was inconsistent in the game last night, he took shots which was nice, but he had a couple give aways and took a bad penalty (which is what I heard of criticisms for him when we got him as well). I wasn't about to phone him and tell him to hurry up and get down there or I wont get to look really fucking ridiculous. But just to appease you all. Shirokov will be back next week

JAMES DUTHIE
http://tsn.ca/columnists/james_duthie/?id=294197

One week into the NHL season and we residents of Hockeynation are already pretty sure of a few things:

--Colorado and Phoenix are unstoppable and will surely meet in the Western Conference Final.

--San Jose and Detroit suck, are likely headed for the draft lottery, and are frantically sending their scouts to Windsor to watch Taylor Hall.

-Martin Brodeur and Roberto Luongo are stiffs, and if Team Canada selects them, they will lose 9-3 to Switzerland.

-The much-hyped Leafs defense couldn't stop that skating chimp from the MVP movies. Even if he was tranquilized.

-Alexander Ovechkin is going to score 90 goals, and 150 points. By Christmas.

Okay, slight embellishments perhaps. (Though after watching the first three Washington games, the last one might have a shot!) But chances are, you've already heard similar bold declarations in some form of media, or from your buddies at work, or the local tavern, coffee shop…bathhouse.

San Jose starts 0-2, and players are being asked if "Is it time to panic yet?" Luongo gives up a couple of softies and they boo him and beg for Andrew Raycroft. I read somewhere online the other day that Ray Emery was the "early favourite for Comeback Player-of-the-Year." He'd played TWO GAMES!

Yes, we sports fans suffer from the embarrassing medical condition known as Premature Evaluation (PE).

PE is hardly a new problem. Rushing to judgment is human nature. We hope (Flames fans), or fear (Leaf fans) that what we've seen in one week might just be the reality of the next six months. If you haven't seen your team play a good game yet, maybe they…never will. And what excited poolie hasn't projected statistics from three games into a full season—Mike Richards: 135 goals-0 assists! - Thu, 8 Oct 2009 6:34pm

On the positive side:

-Hank is tearing it up with ten points in six games
- Erhoff, Samuelson, and Kesler all have six points in six games
- Erhoff is a +3 on a losing team.
- Raycroft looks really solid.

Also, people seem to forget Daniel, Demitra and Schneider are all missing from the line up. Any of whom could've made the difference in the lost games.

I have to admit, Sutter looks fairly brilliant right now, but we all know he's not, so expect the Flames to start crapping the bed soon enough. Just like you can expect Luongo to start racking up the shut-outs.

Beautiful hit! Talk about right place at the right time for Mitchell. This is something that I haven't seen enough of out of the 'Nucks this year. Reminds me of the playoff game last year when Rypien came out and hit every Blackhawk on the ice in one shift. Hopefully this win sparks a turn around for Van on the road (3-1 at home isn't too bad though).

great hit! My beef is that it was a 100% clean hit, so all the Hawks stop playing and go after Mitchell giving two Canucks a clean break on the goalie, but they blow the whistle. If the offending team want to stop playing to get revenge for a clean hit then that shoud be their problem. let Henrik stand there and take pot shots at the net till they get their asses back in the game. - Thu, 22 Oct 2009 11:18am

Had my doubts about Grabner's ability to contribute, but it seems the 'track' line of him with Kessler and Raymond is a good thing for the Canucks. Now if only the other two could finish like Kessler.

Awesome goal by Grabner. Pretty sure the other tenants heard me yell out that one.

HORSE APPLES, I say.
I could care less if it's fucking Gretzky getting leveled (CLEANLY) - if buddy can't keep his head up, he's breaking one of the cardinal rules of this fair, wonderful game, and, accordingly, IS ASKING FOR IT.
How about retaliating with an equally brutal (YET CLEAN) hit?!?!

But I know some of you would say they didn't so as to not get every fan freaking out in Van,but he is the best we got and wouldn't risk keeping him in if he was really hurt bad.

So he probably has a small tweek to his upper arm or shoulder dew to a Bertuzzi hit, and just needs to work it out for a few days...(hopeful thinking here). - Wed, 28 Oct 2009 12:17pm Edited: Wed, 28 Oct 2009 12:18pm

Well Bettmans little monkeys gave the Canucks so many long breaks leading up to the olympics so that the Canucks can partake in the longest road trip in their history.

Makes far more sense than not having that time off now and taking the time off during the olympics..

After all Bettmans plan is perfect.. with possibility of the team being hugely decimated by the Olympics ( Luongo, Sedin, Sedin, Samuellson, Erhoff/Edler/Salo?, Demitra if healthy, and even Grabner all being candidates for their respective countries teams ) its a perfect plan to keep the east coast teams in domination. - Thu, 19 Nov 2009 11:45am Edited: Thu, 19 Nov 2009 11:46am

Ok well 2 seasons ago, Mr Hell, Trev-Co and a few more of us all went to home game vs Flames WITH said troll.. We patted him on the back with ervery goal as as the Canucks beat the Flames.. We hugged him tight as we joined in with 18000 people to chant 'Kiprusoff.. You Suck!' , We protected him with our own mockery as 1000's of fans streamed out of the building targeting anyone in a bright red jersey with insults and laughter.

All the way until we were on the BC Ferry ( it was an early game ) But it didnt stop there, random Canuck fans also travelling were not holding in their pointed mockery of all in red jersey's and the BEST PART is that he actually got so worn down by said mockery, that he remvoed his jersey!

This brings up an issue.
Weren't commentators kinda bagging on Van for scoring 6 goals against a handicapped Penguins team? Some of them did mention Vancouver were being dicks by scoring so much, eventhough once the win was established, Van just played to keep the win.
9 fucking goals. Haha.
While I salute San Jose for embarrassing those idiots, I wonder if any similar comments were made about the Sharks in light of their obvious attempt to make the Lames look completely useless? - Tue, 19 Jan 2010 3:50pm

This is professional sports, with professional athletes. If you play poorly enough to lose 9-1, you deserve to be embarrassed. Like, sure, maybe if they were kids playing house league hockey or something, it would be "unsportsmanlike" but these are professionals who need stats for the big contracts, etc. - Wed, 20 Jan 2010 11:39am

fLAMEs fans have no place here anyway.

as for the big scores; the only reason the announcers bagged on them is because only the commentators know what its like to be embarassed so badly they have to turn away from playing the game to talking about it... or they played for the leafs. - Tue, 26 Jan 2010 11:02am

Speaking of the Leafs you can bet that even if they lost every game for the rest of the season, Burkey STILL won't fire his little friend Ronnie, what with all the Oly stuff. (and their apparent fondness for each others' perinea) (according to Bill Waters anyway)

- "maybe demitra and wellwood can develop some chemistry"

Imagine, though? Now THAT would be a team with AWESOME depth, if they poured it on. Maybe put Mason on that line (or is he already a fixture on Kessler's line?)
Too bad we didn't have the cap room for Kaberle (and maybe get past the first round of the play-offs for a flibberty change.)

Gotta love - all three Canucklehead goals last night against Buffulo sure were gull-durned purdy.

The Ducks got better with Jason Blake.
Toronto got gauranteed goal tending and a superstar (bum) young defenseman
Calgary got badly needed secondary scoring.
This could shake things up out west

We got the twins and Burrows, so they might as well just give us the Cup now. - Sun, 31 Jan 2010 8:36pm

Don't go talking about winning the Cup.
We will have to trounce San Jose besides a bunch of other teams who will be playing as hard as they can to win as well.
The Cancks only hope for winning the Cup is being hungry enough. That hunger remains to be seen. - Mon, 1 Feb 2010 11:01pm

VANCOUVER - Daniel Sedin scored three goals, while his brother Henrik collected four assists to take over the NHL scoring lead, as the Vancouver Canucks ended their regular season with a 7-3 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday.

Daniel electrified the crowd with his third goal. He took a pass from Henrik, then put the puck behind him by threading it through his legs, before firing a shot that beat Calgary goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.

Henrik Sedin now has 112 points from 29 goals and 83 assists. That leaves him three ahead of Washington's Alex Ovechkin who has 109 points from 50 goals and 59 assists. The Capitals play their final game Sunday.

The sold-out crowd of 18,810 chanted "MVP, MVP" as Henrik broke the Canuck franchise record of 110 points in a season set by Pavel Bure in 1992-93. - Sat, 10 Apr 2010 10:36pm

N.C.R.A.S.S.M (Not Canucks-Related Again, So Sue Me) (actually, with "Canucks-Related" being hyphenated, that officially designates it as one whole word, so, I'm sorry - I meant "N.C.A.S.S.M")

googled a bunch of entries about hart candidates - NONE of them merntioned Bryzgalov, who, without him, the Coyotes wouldn't have had Gilligan's chance to get even REMOTELY as a good a season as this one.
