You know how nowadays how a lot of albums you listen to are good but only so many of them make you go 'Holy shit!!!'?
Well, I don't say this about many (if any) albums at all, but this album is THE ALBUM of the fucking year of 2003 as far as I'm concerned. Never (or rarely) do I hear a fusion of black and death metal that is this well executed.
This album is EVIL, pure and simple. Although I love a lot of black metal vocalists, I can honestly say that a lot of them don't sound this 'infernal.' The more frequent prescence of clean vocals is very cool.
The drumming is very precise, there's a lot of good blasting but it's not just an onslaught, he does some very clever fills as well. The typical trademark Akercocke melodies and riffs, extemely piercing and dissonant, but yet catchy and heavy as well, has only gotten better.
The fact that they've been able to mix all these elements makes them unique whcih is why 'The Goat of Mendes' has always been on my top 10. Well, looks like I've found a replacement for it, being that this album has proved that Akercocke is probably the most 'progressive' of all the satanic black metal bands I've laid ears to. Bask in its infernal glory.

Ahh Akylore, such bizzare metal bands you're into. I just can't beleive that I got you hooked on black metal and now your collection makes mine look like a farce and you're into all these bands that I've never fucking heard of. Akylore is indeed interesting, I'm gonna have to check out this album... - Sun, 23 Nov 2003 8:45am

Are they still doing the whole techno fusion thing? Cause that really sounded shitty to me. - Mon, 24 Nov 2003 6:05am

Haha, yeah, I find it more ironic how when I first met SOSJesse in Intro Music Theory 100 he would always come into class sporting Deicide T's and showing me Demilich and Exhumed, now he's 'found himself' with Sonata Arctica and Blind Guardian (no faults with those bands mind you...) - Mon, 24 Nov 2003 1:47pm

Their first album had all these techno aspects to it, wasn't digging it at all. - Mon, 24 Nov 2003 5:22pm

Mutilashawn, I beleive you are sorely mistaken beyond all hope of salvation. Akercocke has NEVER nor would they ever use techno elements. They are a bizzare combination of death and black metal with some orchestral arrangements featuring classical-style instruments. Trust me on this one. - Thu, 27 Nov 2003 2:14pm

Akercocke does have strange sound effects at times, but I wouldn't call it techno...I mean, it's not like as if I would go to the boom-boom room sporting my 'Akercocke-Taste of Virgin Flesh' longsleeve with Satan in goat-form eating out a nun on the front & back with naked chicks sprawled out on pentagrams along the sleeves. Well, maybe I would just to disturb people, but that's besides the point. The point is that it's not the kind of stuff to 'jump-up-jump-up-and-jump-around' too on a Pepsi commercial....
I suppose if you're one of those people that are all angsty about keyboards and metal then you might be annoyed, but even then, man, Dimmu Borgir is way more prominent with that sort of stuff. As much of a Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth fan as I am, I would have to say Akercocke blows them out of the water as far as being more brutal, heavier and discordant is concerned. - Fri, 28 Nov 2003 1:07pm
